I agree with everything you said except for this... Mantha WILL be a 30-goal man. We know this.

http://www.tsn.ca/report-tatar-red-wings-stuck-on-term-1.802754 Sounds like both sides are okay with the salary (around $5M), and term is the only sticking point. Tatar wants 7 and the Wings want 5...

I'm not saying he will. (Though, I don't think it's at all unreasonable to say he's capable of doing it.) I'm saying he and Tatar have consistently performed like respectable top-line wingers -- and they have. I'm saying your argument that Nyquist and Tatar are average, run-of-the-mill players is dumb -- and it is. I'm saying your argument that Nyquist and Tatar can't score 40 goals between them is dumb -- and it is. Tatar had more assists than goals in 2013-14 and 2015-16. Having more goals than assists does not equal "doesn't help those around him." Tatar puts up points and drives possession. He does what a top-six winger should do. He does what a solid (if unspectacular) top-line scoring winger should do. Nyquist had more assists than goals in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Name them, and make a strong case for why they're all "much better players." 2014-15: 14 power play goals, 24 power play points. He was lethal in that role. How much power play action have they seen at the NHL level? How many power play points have they put up at the NHL level? You've totally convinced me. The evidence is overwhelming. But Svechnikov is definitely much better than Nyquist and Rasmussen should definitely get a look in the top nine in 2017-18. Seems legit. Agreed. Or you draft them. (Wait, so you think average, run-of-the-mill Nyquist/Tatar could get us a top-end player? That would seem to imply they're not average, run-of-the-mill players.) I'm ok with trading Nyquist or Tatar if we get a really good return that helps advance the rebuild. I'm not ok with being in a great hurry to move Nyquist or Tatar "because kids" and/or "because cap space" (unless, perhaps, we have a real shot at Tavares). I'm not ok with assuming Mantha, Svechnikov, Rasmussen are going to be better than Nyquist and Tatar. We don't know that Mantha is a future 30-goal man. He hasn't even played a full NHL season. Svechnikov has played two games at the NHL level, and he hasn't exactly obliterated the AHL. Have you examined Rasmussen's numbers? https://canucksarmy.com/2017/02/02/let-s-talk-about-michael-rasmussen/ Read that piece. If you want to talk about average, run-of-the-mill, one-dimensional players who don't make others around them better and who won't be consistent 30-40 goal scorers at the NHL level, I dare say you should be a little more critical of a guy like Rasmussen.

That stuff is so damn good and even better, it's cheap. I would say hands down the best barrel aged stout for the price.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

As of mid April. So he's basically three months into his rehab. He should be ready to go at the start of training camp. I've seen he's already training hard so far this summer, so hopefully the surgery hasn't / doesn't set him back too much.

You can see my last on my pic. My next will be of a defender. I would very much like it to be Rasmus Dahlin.

While it's obvious the Wings are trying to add some size, I don't think it represents a philosophical change. It's just addressing a weakness that stems from most of our past big/gritty players not panning out. Things would be different if Ryno, Andersson, Ferraro, and Aubry had worked out better, or even if Sheahan and Abdelkader were better, and Franzen was still healthy. Rasmussen isn't just big. He was also one of the best players available and his skillset addresses a major weakness in our roster and prospect pool. And we have drafted bigger players pretty much every year even during our peak years...most of those players just didn't work out. Witkowski is certainly a nod to toughness, but no more so than Ott, or Tootoo, or May, or Downey... in other words it's not something out of the ordinary for the Wings, despite what people think. McIlrath is pretty irrelevant. It's a GR signing more than anything. He could see some games if we have a lot of injuries, but that's about it. Maybe still has a little potential to be better, and at one time was thought to be a potential shut-down defenseman. His play in GR showed he isn't just some goon at the AHL level, so it makes sense for them. He's better than many of our defense prospects right now, and fits in well considering most of our prospects lean more toward offense. Despite that one report, I don't believe McKee was signed by the Wings. None of the cap sites show him having an NHL contract, and I couldn't even find anything to suggest he even has a deal with GR. I'm fairly certain that the contract he signed is only with Toledo.

Nope! Mantha gonna clap bombs across this league. Take that to the bank, cash it, and buy a Mantha sweater with it.
