Like any trade, it's too early to tell who the winner is, but my bet is on Colorado here. Sakic held out on trading Duchene, and people thought his asking price was way too high. Well I'm pretty sure he did better than his asking price... They got a 1st round pick, that could potentially be a lottery pick from Ottawa (in which case, they would lose the 3rd if it's a top 10 pick). They also got a 2nd round pick from Nashville. As well as 4 decent to very good players / prospects. Hammond is probably the worst piece coming back, but he's a serviceable backup. Bowers is a high end center prospect, Kamenev is a good forward prospect, and Girard is a very good young defenseman. Three very nice pieces there. All this for a player that clearly wanted off the team for quite some time... Like has been mentioned, Ottawa seems like the clear loser in this deal, giving up a high end prospect, and either a top 10 pick or a 1st and 3rd round pick. All for a player that isn't that much better or younger than what they currently had. I think Turris is very underrated, and Duchene (while maybe slightly better) may be a little overrated after all the hoopla this past year of trade controversy.

Wow, lot of pieces. My first impression...no real loser here. Maybe the Sens, because I'm not sure Duchene is a clear upgrade over Turris. Probably a lateral move at worst. Samuel Girard appears to be a stud, but the Preds are stacked on the blue line and they want to win a Cup and they absolutely needed to find a high-end top-six centerman. And, if I have my facts right, he's signed an extension. Avs get ALL THE THINGS in exchange for a 2C. Looks like Sakic was smart to hold out this long.

Depends on the player, last year it happened twice. If Hanzal can bring in a first, I think Green can IF he keeps scoring. FEBRUARY 27: St. Louis Blues trade D Kevin Shattenkirk and G Pheonix Copley to Washington Capitals for 2017 first-round pick, conditional draft picks and forwards Zach Sanford and Brad Malone FEBRUARY 26: Arizona Coyotes trade F Martin Hanzal, F Ryan White and fourth-round pick in 2017 Draft to Minnesota Wild for F Grayson Downing, first-round pick in 2017 Draft, second-round pick in 2018 and conditional pick in 2019

Yeah, I've only been able to watch a handful of games so far this season (didn't watch the game yesterday), but he's stood out in a positive way on both sides of the puck. He's known as a defensive "shut down" center, but his offensive game has been great. He's generating a lot of scoring opportunities, and his point production has exceeded everyone's expectations. Granted, it's a very small sample size, but if he can keep up close to a point per game pace, while playing defensively sound, we could have more than a Glendening replacement, which is what I've always projected him as...

They have some tough waters to navigate ahead. McDavid's 12.5 cap hit kicks in next year. They will have 15 million to fill 8 roster spots, and that's with zero player scratched, so more like 9 to 10 roster spots. That's about 1.5 per roster spot to spend. And that doesn't sound tooooo awful... until you consider the RFAs they have to re-sign which include R. Strome and Nurse. I assume Strome will end up being let go or traded, but Nurse could ask for some money, reducing what they can give others. They're certainly not going to be able to make any big or meaningful additions in FA. They have to be smart drafting cause they're gonna need ELC player to fill spots. Blackhawks were smart about that, Penguins eventually got smart at that. Edmonton has some questionable history drafting, especially with all their high picks so naturally I hope they get f***ed in the ass

Damn them Oilers look awful. They are performing well under capacity. Clearly some stuff is going on there. That was a dominating two points which by itself is comical/ridiculuous. But I'll take it. Next.

Abdelkaders and Zetterbergs both only had 1 assist? WOW, waste of about 10 million dollars right there. Tatar on the other hand had 0 goals and 0 assists and makes 1 million more than Abdelkader. But he's newer and provides more grit than Abs so it's ok I think. Mrazek looking like the Vezina winning goalie we remember

Woah wtf.. Have the Griffins done that with a 1st round pick in recent history?

So...Preds get Turris for a (probably late-round) 1st? Dang. Even if Turris doesn't sign with them, that's still a pretty good deal for them. EDIT: Oh, fake news?

Frk seems like a genuinely good dude. I'm happy for him.

Frk´s one-timer works even when does it work not..

Wow what do ya know, put Frk with Mantha and AA and Frk scores. It's almost like he shouldn't be on the 4th line.

Yeah, a whole lot of unforced errors for Chiarelli. Why they got rid of Hall, Eberle, Schultz, is beyond me. To me, that's a better supporting cast than Lucic, Strome, Larsson. Apparently he also turned down a Subban trade - would have been really interesting to see who it was for.

Grand Rapids are off to a rough start once again this season, but beat Milwaukee 6-3 last night. I managed to watch most of the game, and was impressed with some of the young players, Turgeon in particular. He scored a goal and added an assist last night, and looked good at both ends of the ice. He now has 9 points (5 goals, 4 assists) in 10 games so far this season. I've always thought he would be a great 4th line NHL center, but maybe he becomes a good 3rd line center; what we hoped for from Sheahan, both offensively and defensively. Holmstrom and Svechnikov looked good as well, although Svech has really struggled so far this season to find the score sheet, with only 1 goal in his first 6 games. He got into a scrap last night too. You can really tell he's getting frustrated out there. Hopefully he works through it. Holmstrom has 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 8 games so far this season. Bertuzzi should be back soon (possibly this weekend), so that should provide a spark to the offense. The blueline looks very mobile with Hicketts, Hronek and Saarijarvi back there. Hopefully they continue to roll here now that they're starting to get healthy / key players into the lineup.

Unfortunately for the Wings, this probably sets the market value for a high-end D prospect even higher than it already was, in terms of what it'd cost to acquire one via trade.
