Kadri is a great shutdown center. Come playoff time, he's successfully shut down Kadri (a good shutdown center in his own right) on multiple occasions!

In a way, I'm really enjoying this off-season so far. I imagine that for all the people who were clamoring to replace Holland with Yzerman it's like being a kid finding out that Santa Claus is real by walking in on him taking a wet dump in their stocking, and now they have to try to convince themselves that it's what they truly wanted the whole time. Kronwall 2x$4.5 please

VGK shopping Gusev''s rights after large gap in contract talks Yzerman drafted this guy and lost him to Vegas in the expansion. Stevie is good with Russians... and we do have the money to pay him. If you buy into translation factors at all, Gusev would have had a 66 pt season in 62 NHL games played this year by the 2017 metric of 0.804. Did I mention he's RH?

We would be trading for his rights. I have no idea what such a trade would look like, but I would assume a player would be moving out. If not in that trade, another trade. Also, a 26 year old right-handed winger that could potentially be a point per game player, is a little different than the two signings we made yesterday...

Also, this... Make it happen Yzerman...

It's dumb to assume Cholowski "should play in GR" before training camp / preseason. He was ready last year, before he hit that brick wall midseason. Again, I'm okay with Cholowski playing in GR, but it would suck to see him "earn a spot", but get sent down anyway because there are too many veterans... Maybe things will be different with Yzerman and he will be willing to abolish Daley and Ericsson, but I have my doubts... You're acting like I'm up in arms about the signing. I'm not at all. Just think it was "unnecessary". I'm not getting my back up over anything. I liked what I seen from Bowey after he got acclimated at the end of the season, and I think he could be a solid bottom pairing defenseman, that can skate well, play physical, and kill penalties. He's also 3 years younger, $2M cheaper, and better offensively than Nemeth.

Yes, but the bums on this team are for the most part the old guys, not the young guys. Whatever though. If Cholowski spends another season in GR, getting huge minutes, it's not going to be the worst thing for his development. I guess we can chalk this up to another lost season, which again, is probably the best thing long term. I don't hate either of the signings, but just think they were a little unnecessary with the current state of this team...

In one year Daley and Ericsson will be gone. Kronwall will be retired. Green, if healthy, can be traded this season at the deadline and if he's not healthy he can go on LTIR. Next year's D currently looks like this DeKeyser - Hronek Nemeth - ?? ?? - ?? ?? If management really liked the player then a two year deal makes a ton of sense.

Kadri's contract is considered one of the league's best, I believe. Also, IMO, Tyson Barrie is over rated.

Grand Rapids is about to have the best defense in the AHL. Especially if Seider starts there. Soooo, cool? I don't get the Nemeth addition either. But this got me pretty good

Hopefully it’s next off season which would put us in a position to lose someone like an ehn and not someone of extreme importance , quicker it’s over and done with the better

Yeah I would value Barrie much more than Kadri. He produces more points than Kadri as a Dman... One of the issues I have with Kadri is he wasn't valued as a shutdown center until Babs forced him to be one. Babs is known for his defensive systems. Is Kadri going to carry that with him? Or is he gonna go back to being OG Kadri in Colorado? Personally I value Kadri's defense like I do Helm's (another Babs trained player) and Helm doesn't even player center anymore and I wouldn't miss his D if it were gone (giggity). That said I believe the math freaks love Kadri's defense, and like you, I haven't followed him enough to be truly confident in my immediate opinion. I know even less about Kerfoot TBH. He could be total trash as a defensive center, I honestly don't know. When I think of shuttdown 2C's I think of Kesler, Dubinksy, Couturier, etc... not Kadri. But maybe my opinions need updating.

It's fitting that scumbag Kadri would end up on that trash team

Holland reads this board. All those posts about "Jurco shouldn't be on the fourth line, if he played with a McD center he'd have like 1000 points" he's starting to realize were true. He's studying. Learning. Evolving.

I think Veleno's ceiling is higher. I honestly believe that Veleno could be as good as Larkin (or close to it) in a few years... I see a 40-50 point floor / 70-80 point ceiling for Veleno. He probably ends up somewhere in between, hopefully closer to the ceiling though...

    Red Wings Development Camp

This is why I hate the Zadina controversy. It's because it's a nontroversy. It always is. Like @Wheelchairsuperhero said, he's got a sore hamstring. And even if he didn't, we shouldn't be passing any -- any -- kind of judgment based on a 15 second clip from development camp. (Even me saying that makes it sounds like there's something worth being concerned about. There isn't.) Dude is young. Dude went pro early. Dude did well in his rookie pro season. Dude actually played very well at the WJC this season, but it didn't show on the score sheet. Dude played very well in his stint with the Wings, but it didn't show on the score sheet. Dude has a surprisingly strong two-way game, but we're going to ignore that because reasons. If that means "Jurco until proven otherwise," ok. But, as I've said before, I think that's silly. He could be a bust, but let's not pretend the body of work is pointing strongly in that direction.
