I honestly think Pavel is still getting back into the flow of the game.Taking it somewhat easy on himself while slowly testing the limits of his surgically repaired ankle. He showed a few flashes of his old skating speed when Larkin was on his line. As for his stick handling I think he's just trying to keep stuff simple while he gets back into game shape. He was unable to skate full go for almost six months, and he still has only played a handful of games. Its gonna take a little time, But hes been looking better and better.(with the exception of tonight, but alot of our players had less than great games today) And zs in one of his slumps again, remember last year when he came back and everybody was saying he's done, He can't play center anymore, he fell off etc.etc.? Hes had these slumps all his career, but he had been injured so often, and when he came back he started producing right away that we forgot all about them. Also. I really hope they keep Jurco on Pavs line, yeah he didn't look to great today, but one game after all he missed isn't giving him a legitimate shot.

I'm dealing any one of those three before I'm dealing Larkin.

Tomas Jurco = -1 Anderson out = loss. Gustav Nyquist = -1 Pulkinen out = loss. Mike Green = -1 Smith = loss. Kronwall = -2 Lashoff in GR = loss. ...so many permutations to this fun game, all of them dumber than cement.

People who don't even vist LGW know of your intense dislike of Drew. It pervades every single thread. If you want to play "Six Degrees of Drew Miller" and how every broken play on the ice can be attributed to Miller, please do so in the thread dedicated to him. And everyone else please quit poking the bear.

    Bigger nets ?

Making the rinks larger will do nothing and honestly it will never happen. The arenas today are multifunctional no sane owner will agree to shut them down for a few weeks and risk losing a lot of revenue, it's just not going to happen. Also players, coaches would figure out in a hurry how to take away the new space (i.e. olympic ice). Well I don't care if it helps star-forwards they are STAR forwards so they should be able to score a bunch of goals and assists right? Funny nobody is saying let's help the star defenders doing their job, so why help the forwards? I personally couldn't care less if a new fan is turned away because his favorite player hasn't scored 100 points and "only" managed to get lets say 88. Honestly 100 points should be the exception (a highlight) in a players career not the norm. Gretzky is hands down the best player who ever played the game but back then goalies - with the few obvious exceptions - weren't as atheltic and well trained as they are now. Never understood why people are so fixated on 3 digit numbers if its that important they can go watch the NBA. I think a lot of fans are protective (not that it matters what he think anyways..) of the game because some of the changes have all been for the worst: hockey in places with ECHL like attendances, salary cup, instigator rule, constant twinkering with the ASG till it has become basically a joke. Also Ovechkin is not a playermaker he is a finisher, which means he will score more goals and have less assists so I doubt he'll ever reach 100 or whatever points. Another reason why the game "used to be higher scoring" is owners were able to aDD and KEEP all-star-talent that isn't the case anymore, players have to get used to new linemates, find new chemistry and need time to figure it out. And now people want to punish goalies for being reallyreally good? Doesn't make sense to me.

And of course they'd keep the pick and draft Mathews over chychrun, to run Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, and Mathews down the middle.

    Larkin for ...

Wow that would be incredible cool I think we'd be the second team, since the Habs had that French only captains and A's policy some years ago. But yeah Larkin is very special but Ekblad is probably the most untouchable Panther right now, guy has future Norris winner written all over him. Like I said there is no way I'd be dealing Larkin for a realistic return right now, neither would I trade Mantha. But with the exception of Danny D. some package will be needed to get that top pairing guy even if it means dealing one of Goose, Tatar, AA..

I'm only going to quote this one, but the post you made in response to me earlier in the thread was spot on dude. The only thing is we seem to be able to develop forwards amazingly well, especially compared to developing defenseman. So I think we have a better chance at developing someone into a number one c, than we do a number one d. That's the only reason Id consider trading Larkin for someone like OEL or ekblad, which I'd still be hesitant to do, and i doubt Florida or az would do it anyway. But we really didnt do much development with Larkin, he did it all on his own, which is what makes it so special. We don't pick high enough to get players of his calibur, and when we do they're damaged goods in some aspects.(compete level, or another skill that's not at a high level) that we have to teach them. Larkin's a very, very special player. I said it last year when he was tearing up the ncaa, He's our next captain. And the potential of having our captains and assistant captains all from Michigan in the future is so damn cool. Does anyone know if we Would be the first team to have all our captains from the teams home state? C-Dylan Larkin A-Justin Abbreviator A-Danny Dekeyser

Like I said, I'd definitely have to consider it for an Ekblad type defenseman but even then, I'd be hesitant. Awesome, we got our number one defenseman locked up, now only if we had a number one center... Oh yeah, we just traded him away... Don't confuse this kid for anything us fans have gushed over in the past, because it's not even close to the same. We literally have not had a 19 year old kid come in and dominate the way Larkin has, since a guy named Steve Yzerman did it back in '83. Combine Larkin's skill level, hockey IQ, compete level and determination, there is nothing that is going to slow him down, other than a serious injury of course. And the same could be said if we somehow acquired Ekblad from Florida.

Neither Mrazek nor Howard are the issue. It's the skaters in front of them. All of them.

Can see it but I'm not sure how you can give Jurco one game and then bounce him back out... Unless Blash is going to rotate them like Jimmy/Mrazek. [emoji41]

I see where you are coming from, but I'd give Jurco another game or two. Make Pulkkinen hungrier when he comes back in.

What makes Larkin so exciting is that he seems to be more likely to become that type of player than to not. Even Wings management seems to think Larkin will 'become the Wings Toews'. Bob MacKenzie commented on that on TSN Radio a while back. Throwing around names like Toews and Price when it comes to the potential of Larkin and Mrazek. I do agree that in miracle land if Toews became a Wing he would instantly be the team's best player. But when it comes to Larkin vs Toews, what about 5 years from now? IMO that's what it comes down to if it came down to choosing between the two. Toews is a no brainer in the short term, of course.

The Wings have 4 potential top line forwards in Larkin, Mantha, AA, and Svechnikov. They have 0 potential top pair D. Deal what you have for what you need. I believe Larkin will be good, but being elite isn't a guarantee, and he wouldn't be the first guy who had a fantastic rookie year then fell off the map for whatever reason.

I agree jimmy. The biggest thing for me is that this is not some hot shot kid that has come into the league and put up points solely on skill, he definitely has the skill, but he also has a calm demeanor, almost veteran like, and that is an extremely rare quality to find in a 19 year old. Future captain material for sure. He has as good a shot as anyone to win the Calder at this point, but if Panarin keeps up his pace, he will likely win it. But there's no question in my mind that Larkin is and will be the better player, as Panarin has 5 years on Larkin... As for the question of whether or not I'd trade him and for who? It may seem foolish but I think Larkin is one of those truly untouchables right now. Like most young kids, he is worth way more to us now and in the future than any possible trade scenario. Everyone says how much we need that top pairing defenseman, well I think just as important as that, we need a future number one center to replace Pav and Hank when they retire / decline. Larkin is that. Again, it may seem foolish, but I'm not even sure I'd trade him for an Ekblad type defenseman straight up. I think Dylan is going to be THAT good... I don't think 70-80 points, Selke candidate is out of the question at all, and the way goal scoring is trending, that would be amazing!
