Not gonna comment on Tatar, as I haven't seen enough of the guy to have a truly informed take on him. Parise is 5'11, 195. His game's not unlike Helm's - and he's good for ~30 goals a season and clutch posteason performance. Semin's lazy, often half-interested (at best), not physical, not good for use on the PP or PK - it's a long list. We want to get less lazy, see less floating, be more engaged and aggressive on the forecheck & backcheck and in the corners and in front of the opposition's net, be more defensively responsible, be more committed to winning. We don't want Semin.

    Kronwalled at the Worlds!

How is that a disgrace? Kronwall still can get players in the NHL like this. Maybe I am missing something Meh, remember the Philly game this past year. After a Kronwall hit it was the Wings who got scared when Philly didn't back down and came back at the Wings. Detroit looked like a bunch of sissies that day. Nice hit overall

    Fedorov To Retire

Maybe in the regular season. But in the playoffs, when it really mattered - well, the numbers speak for themselves. Its just such a shame that the manner of his departure has been allowed to tarnish everything he did as a Wing.

Mr Illitch, please step forward and slap Kenny and tell him to buck up and face realitiy or get a new job. This loyalty thing is gunna bite us on the arse before long if it hasnt already begun to do so. hopefully Homer makes sense of it all and saves holland actually making a tough decision that he is incapable of doing.

    Chances of landing Parise?

I respect that your dream respects retired numbers.

Why is Vince Vaughn at this game? Bandwagon joiner because his Hawks are out?

Do we need to get bigger and tougher? Yes. Do we need a legitimate goal-scoring threat? Yes. Do we [insert any one of our numerous other issues]? Yes. So many people here seem to honestly believe it all boils down to one thing. "We lost to the Predators because [insert one thing]." I know we all have our axes to grind. I know we all have our pet gripes with the team (or else, with the people who have pet gripes with the team). But let's be fair and objective.

We also did not get goals that we needed. Fact is it became extremely apparent that Pavel and Hank need better players to work with. To be honest, I think Kenny should PRESS to get Parise AND Semin and here is why. Parise is not a "Sniper" he is a hard worker who scores all sorts of different kind of goals, therefore I think he would work a lot better playing with Hank then Pavel. But Pavel still needs a legitimate sniper who can score goals and semin would provide that (and he is right handed). Imagine: Semin- Datsyuk- Homer Parise- Zetterberg- Franzen Cleary- Filpulla- Bertuzzi Miller- Helm- Abs/Eaves I know it is wishful thinking, but that would be a much more improved team. ALso, I know many don't like HOmer on the top line, but I feel having him on the top line benefits the team as a whole because he slows down the 4th line, and he can make the top line more effective by retrieving pucks and screening the goalie.

Agreed 100% Semin probably actually has more natural offensive talent than Parise. That doesn't mean s*** though since he's a much, much less effective player because of his lack of grit, work ethic, and defensive awareness. Conversely, Parise has all of these qualities that Semin's lacking...and he has them in spades. Parise's forecheck alone would be a huge example for this team. He scores the dirty goals around the net. Semin's another perimeter player. We don't want more players like this. I'd rather have gritty, aggressive, 3rd and 4th liners who are hard on the forecheck and tough to play against. At least we'd then be a more well-rounded team.

He's Kronwall and is just letting people remember that he is indeed there to play. Thanks for posting op.

    Drive the Net?

To me the crazy thing is that it's not like we don't have guys to go the tough areas, Holmstrom, Bert, Cleary, Franzen, and even Hudler will go there to screen all game long, but hardly anybody really drives. I don't think we don't have guys who are willing to do it, but it's like we've had so much success with the point shot + screen = goal dynamic that we're beholden to it now. On a related note, I actually think Miller is one of the better guys on the team at driving, but like you said, guys like him and Cleary have the will but not the skill, so to speak.

    Chances of landing Parise?

The thing is he will get offered insanely high contracts by teams that need to do so. And as you said yourself, we're not the only contenders. In 2-3 years we might not even be that if Holland can't flip the age factor while keeping the talent and production relatively linear. Which would be impressive and awe inspiring if you ask me. It also doesn't help that we haven't done much of anything in the playoffs recently despite getting there against beatable teams. I would have more confidence if I thought Detroit was still THE place to be when it came to FA's. I think they look now and see a team declining unfortunately.

Wow, lots of Homer love still I guess. At least by all the negs. Of course no one man enough to debate it.... Let me ask the negger, do you like the team you had last season? Sure they were 1st overall in February, but that was because of an anomaly. Think about this, they won an NHL record 23 straight home wins, yet still could not bury the rest of the league...why? Because they stunk on the road, their PP and PK stunk. Look how early the 2001-02 Wings put away the rest of the league and they didn't even sniff a 23 game win streak...If you can honestly tell us that this team, exactly like it was last season, is a Stanley Cup caliber team, then please, explain it to us, don't just neg and run. Of course, just like usual, you won't... edit: I did what I could to bring everyone back to plus. It's asinine to neg someone just because they think Homer should retire...

The only positive of bringing back Holmstrom is that my Red Wing lineup in my Sega Genesis games will remain somewhat relevant.

Babcock and Holland want to keep Homer.

    1. I like our team 2. When we were healthy, we were 1st overall and then injuries hit and we could not recover 3. We explored the market and had some interest in some of the UFAs but felt the prices were too high 4. I feel that Homer still has some gas left in the tank and that bringing him back for another season is the right thing to do 5. We feel that we have some kids who are ready to take that next step and be bigger factors in the success of our team 6. Having Kyle Quincey for a full season should benfit hiim and the Detroit Red Wings 7. It is a very tough league right now and we got over 100 points which is nothing to sneeze at 8. There is not much separating 15th from 1st in the West. 9. We have some cap space to use and we will wait until the trade deadline to see what our options are 10. We will look for ways to improve our hockey club but it has to make sense.

Same as the one that got eliminated in the first round.

3rd - Bertuzzi-Helm-Cleary 4th - Prust-Gaustad-Eaves/Nyquist That's where our bottom 6 needs to be. Now, I like Holmer as much as the next guy, but....

    Chances of landing Parise?

Much of the speculation that has Parise leaving the Devils is based on the financial state of the team. The New Jersey Devils are an economic mess at the moment, and the instability suggests that Parise won't be brought back to the club. Whether he comes to Detroit of all places is another story. For the record I voted 10%. I know there are 30 teams that would love to add someone of Parise's caliber (especially with the lack of high end skill in this year's free agent pool). I don't know how many can realistically afford to take a shot at him, but he's the type of player you should be moving pieces around to fit in. I'd wager at least a third of the league will make serious inquiries with appeal to Parise in one form or another.

This just in....Holland not interested in Parise. I'm joking, but seriously? It looks like Holland STILL refuses to change the makeup of this team, a makeup that has been waning and waning year after year. Sorry, just my opinion...

Tortorella is a jackass, but otherwise there's a lot to like about this Rangers team.

You really can't get much more wrong than this. Zetterberg was the center with Flip and Hudler on the wings. Ask around, you'll see. Also, Datsyuk's production was hurt by injury, Z's by the slump. Datsyuk was in the top ten in scoring before his injury and Zetterberg turned it on and led the team in points while also leading Flip to a career year in goals and points, and Hulder to a career year in goals.

Babcock and Holland want to keep Homer.

So let me get this straight. You, some unkown poster on an opinion forum knows better than the Offical Red Wings site? Ok. Cool. Just wanted to be clear. I am not moving any post whatsoever. Abby is a much better player than tatar all teh way around. he is bigger, faster, tougher, and if a true 3rd/4th line guy. tatar is not. Never will be. He is but one of many faceless organizational players that every team has. he has no trade value and he will never amount to anything at the next level. Doesn't mean he doesn't work or is a bad guy, it only means he isn't good enough. Please stop with the stupid "if you ever watched" comments. They just make you look silly. I have been watching the RW since before you were a gleem in your daddy's eye. I went to games at Olympia. Watched the Wings on PASS. The RW's are not something new to me. Heck I look back at the days when the RW were lucky to win 20 games per year. it hurts. Don't ever want to see it again.
