The guy played on out top pairing last year, We just lost two of our top four, And he blocks shots with his face. I wouldnt be up for trading that away right now.

White is a known commodity, where as Schultz has yet to play an NHL game. I don't think it would be a very smart move on Kenny's part to weaken even more, an already weak defense, just to pander to some snot nosed kid who demands that he starts for an NHL team. You earn your spot with your play in Detroit. If you don't want to buy into the system, there is not much of a future for you as a player here. This, of course, is just my opinion.

Agreed. I'm sure management knew it, but maybe didn't compensate for it as quickly as they could have. The Wings used to get around their lack of size through skill and puck possession. But the last couple seasons they haven't had the level of talent necessary to play the skill game at as high of a level, but they lacked the size and system to play other ways. So they sometimes were in no mans land.

I'm assuming he has his reasons for sitting out. Being a goalie was my first career wish, so I can't imagine not wanting to do it. On the other hand, anything can get old or burdensome if there are other things in your life that need attention. I totally respect someone walking away from the game for their own personal reasons, but the whole messing with the team regarding cap hit makes no sense to me. You'd think that if he's worried about the global economic collapse, he'd work at that pay rate and put it aside for the fiscal armageddon that people are foretelling. The leaving the game is his call, and his call alone, but as far as the contract goes, there may be no "I" in "team", but there's sure one in "Tim".

When people say we need to get tougher to play against, start here. Flip is SOFT. Not a bad defensive player but nothing in the physical department. And I'm tired of everyone praying that he play to his "potential". He's 28, been here 6 seasons, what you see is what you get. Sorry, I'm not a fan.

My only gripe is that there are no longer links to Red Wings stories from the various media sources. I liked having all the wings headlines in one place. Other than that I like it.

Even if White moves on when his contract is up, the thought of dealing him now is beyond ridiculous. As if losing arguably the greatest defenseman of all time wasn't catastrophic enough, then we lose another extremely valuable member of our top four within a few weeks....and now, you want to move another part of our top 4? I don't care if we lose him for nothing next year, with no guarantee that Kenny will be able to sign any top-end free agents in a couple weeks, turning over yet another top-four defensive player this off-season might actually make this team struggle to be better than a 7-seed in the West.

The only reason he didnt stay a shark was because they needed to free up room for burns, with that being said white has been stuck on s***ty 'd' teams intill san jose where he did well. Thus i see no reason as to getting rid of him he has done well here and continue what he has done the last 2 years.

I have zero interest in Nash's bloated contract. He's signed way too long for that cap hit. Add to that the fact that he's never scored 80pts and only topped 70pts once in his career and I can't justify adding him as one of the top 10 highest paid forwards in the league. No one will want Abdelkader-- he's unsigned and unproductive offensively. Sure he hits and plays a gritty game but guys like that are a dime a dozen. I'd be happy to get Staal or Ryan, although Staal would be a foolish choice unless you could garuntee he would sign an extension.

And how does every thread about getting tougher turn into an enforcer debate? Getting tougher does not equal getting a guy who hops over the boards, fights, sits in the box for 5 minutes, then goes back to the bench. A lot of valid suggestions get clouded because the conversation inevitably veers towards fighting.

Spend time with family? Dig a hole in the ground and hide from Obama? Making Facebook videos for ad revenue in a mankini putting butter or Nair all over himself and shakerboarding some website address? As strange and sudden as I find this, it's also his right to take time off as it would be for the Bruins to send Timmay down to Providence or cut him citing his Drew Carey likeness.

I'm probably alone on this, but if a lot of people have gripes with Franzen being so off and on with production, why bring in Ryan? He is the definition of streaky, can blow up for a week or two then go 20 games without a goal. If we are going for streaky here, i'd rather go for Nash and at least get some physical presence when he's not scoring. I'd pass on Ryan, and would rather keep what we would have to sacrifice to get him.
