The Hall is for the Greatest Hockey Players. The Rafters are for the Greatest Red Wings. Not just the most talented, but also those who have bled Red.

If Chuck plays Kris, it will take some serious special effects to have the boards damage his face rather than the reverse.

    March 26th, 1997...The Movie?

I decided to pop in the 1997 Championship video and got to thinking... A movie about March 26th, 1997 (preferably marketed under that title) would not only rock for Wings fans, I think it could be the next great hockey movie if made with the same fervor as "Miracle". I don't believe i've ever seen a more entertaining hockey game in my life. Personally, I preferred the pre-lockout brand of NHL hockey. The battles, physical play, and refs who kept the whistles in their pockets made it much more convincing that only the best team won the game. Obviously, most of you probably know the intimate details of what preceded the game to make it what it was, so ill spare that. My rough draft includes... Important...Avalanche are the antagonist, duh. It would be great to have it be just an unbiased advertisement for that rivalry and time in hockey history but the Avs have too many bad guys to make that work. Opening Credits: A quiet video montage with intermittant quotes... Wings disappointments of the preceding few years, Lindros trade and the move of the Nordiques to Colorado, Wings 62 win season, Colorado getting Roy, etc...leading into the 96 WCF. Opening Scene Movie opens with the intermission and minutes of the period preceding the Claude Lemieux hit in the 1996 Western Conference Finals. During this scene we get glimpses of main characters in the movie (Bowman, Yzerman, McCarty, Maltby, Draper, Vernon, Larionov... Sakic, Forsberg, Foote, Roy, Lemieux, Ricci, Crawford) and a feel for the air in each teams locker room. Scene 2, The Shanahan Difference: Beginning of season. Talk between higher ups of the Wings about the Shanahan deal, why it was needed. Shows his arrival and Detroit locker room atmosphere. Scene 3: Avs raise banner, explores lockerroom atmosphere, get to know players/attitudes (especially towards Detroit. Empahasis on Roy, Lemieux, Crawford. Scene 4: One of the early season meetings of the teams with emphasis on the wings locker room struggles/coming together/animosity towards Colorado Scene 5: Midseason highlights slideshow with commentator clips. Scene 6: Week leading up to the 26th...anticipation from both teams, arrogance, jokes, etc. (all preceding scenes are less than 1/2 of movie time) Gametime: More than enough opportunity to make a great flick here. Actors (this is I think what got me started with this idea)... Scotty Bowman - Jason Alexander (Sounds insane, but he could look almost exactly like him and if he pulled it off would be one of the more impressive acting roles he could ever accomplish) Claude Lemieux - Jason Isaacs Mike Vernon - Emilio Estevez Mike Ricci - Himself (previosly played Elmer Lach in The Rocket) Mathieu Dandenault - Himself (also played in The Rocket) Marc Crawford - Himself (i bet he'd be a good actor) Adam Foote - Owen Wilson (i know, right? Wierd? It’s in the nose...would also be a big role for him if he pulled of the attitude right because its not his normal role) Joe Sakic - Harry Conick Jr. (I know, i know...google it tho). Probably not though, no idea for him. Peter Forsberg - If you know anyone else that looks like the offspring of a vampire and lion, let me know. Konstantinov - ?? (btw, Vlad was one of the oldest looking 27 year olds ever) Darren McCarty - Critical role and I am clueless Igor Larionov - Himself (a little hair color and he's 36 again...dude's to cool for anyone else to play him anyway) Brendan Shanahan - huge role, big voice in the movie, humor focal point along with Darren (ideally some young, funny, up and comer...no idea tho) Barry Smith - Paul Gleason Dave Lewis - Whoever normally plays Hitler in movies Real interested in who LGW can come up with!

I argue that if you knew anything about the wings, you now know that for years and years holding back talent in the minors was a luxury for this club. One that they are no longer able to afford i'm affriad. Whith so many oppertunities now available for these younger players, I feel that it will only thin our prospects pool even further.

What about the Bieber playing Claude? Who cares what the actor looks like, the end result of him getting pummeled is what matters.

Wings Blues Hawks Jackets Preds there's my 2 cents. Wings are tops in my books until PROVEN otherwise, and honestly in the central I don't see a roster that's currently better than the Wings. At least we have tons of fwd depth. i feel more comfortable with Dats or Z going down than other central teams top guys. Weber goes down, Preds are pooched. Toews or Kane, Chicago plummets again. St. Louis, Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk go down, we'll see more easy goals against them. Jackets....whatever.

I'm not sure I understand why the contract situation with Carolina is such a big deal to people. He held out, but it didn't really hurt us. We made the playoffs, he came back, played great in the playoffs and we won another Cup. The way he left in 2003 wasn't great, but it wasn't so bad that it could erase or taint everything he had done for the Wings for the 11 years. He was a HUGE part of those championship teams in 97,98 and 2002, I don't see how you can not be leaning towards retiring his number. Do we win those three Cups without him on our team? Do have all that success we enjoyed during his career without him in our lineup? I really doubt it. Maybe people were too young to remember or simply don't remember that time very well, but Fedorov was 90's Wings hockey. Maybe its because he was more flashy than others or because he was that good, but Fedorov was always the first name to come up when talking about the Wings back then.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

When Sergei was in his prime, can you really say that? I've asked several people who they would rather have in their prime, Fedorov or Datsyuk. 90% of them said Fedorov. That's surprising. Fedorov was a phenomenal talent, comparable to Pavel Bure.

    Money On The Board Conundrum

It can't be the multiple sources as they weren't even aware of the checks. They never processed my credit card. That's one-stop shopping there. I checked their website today; it looks like the gold outing is still happening and they've announced their grant recipients for this year, so the charity is still functioning. I am not of a mind to beg them to "approve" our donation. It's beyond me why they wouldn't just take the money and say thanks.

Especially when you're talking about Holmgren. People probably thought Mike Richards was untouchable when the Flyers signed him to a 12 year deal. Or at least didn't think their captain in Richards and leading scorer in Carter (on an 11 year deal) would both get shipped out.

    Money On The Board Conundrum

I'm all for the Children's Hospital. I don't think anyone who has donated would object to helping kids. It's not in any way controvercial or politically or religiously charged, so the only people who may object are the ones who either really, really like the Illitches or really, really hate kids. And next year, we can just pledge to them in the first place, and get lots of people, and raise lots of money, and donate bajillions of dollars to the kids. Yeah. Bajillions. That'll show them.

LOL. He's not remotely in the same league as any of those players. To say otherwise is indeed ridiculous.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Feds, I'm pretty sure, was everyone's favorite player at some point. He was definitely a special player and future hall of famer. That's enough for him. Numbers in the rafters are for those that embody what it means to be a Red Wing, those that we want to use to define our franchise. Fedorov was fun to watch and was a key to our success but ultimately did not represent himself well nor did he spend enough years here.

If Fedorov or Ozzie won't be retired, then neither will Dats or Z... BTW, Crymson, you say he could not lay claim to being an absolute cog in the team or be an organizations Heart and Soul....take Fedorov off the 90's teams...nowhere NEAR the success and they would not have won 97 and 98 Cups without him...barely even 2002. Fedorov damn well deserves his number retired here, more so than Ozzie, Dats or Z. When Dats wins a Hart or Z wins a Hart or scores 60 goals, then we'll talk with them in the same sentence as Fedorov. Do me a favor, put Dats and Z in the clutch and grab era...I am not saying they arent great players in their own right, but if Dats and Z are already getting consideration for retirement, Fedorov is a shoe in. The ONLY thing is if Illitch is bitter over him leaving on the terms he left...which was Illitch's fault anyhow...

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Incredibly skilled player, that despite his great numbers, never really met his full potential on the ice and took shifts off... Off the ice, an ingrate and primadona who held an organization (that basically gave him a career and life) hostage and was more interested in being "the guy", than part of something special... his number should never go into the rafters amongst true greats and sully the meaning of what it means to go into elite Red Wing history, which is reserved for only the best of the best

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

My favourite player on the Wings in the 90s too. Such a shame it ended the way it did, because based upon every other criteria #91 deserves to be hanging from the rafters. I know the Sergei haters bang on about his lack of effort in the regular season, but when it mattered - when it really mattered, in the playoffs, he always showed up
