1 Point and we're in, A Columbus loss and we're in, a Minnesota loss in regulation and we are in. A win of any kind clinches us the #7 seed. Lets hope the team of the past 3 games shows up.

Good rule of thumb is always take an octopus everywhere. Better to have one and not need it than find yourself thinking, "Damn, I wish I had that octopus".

It depends on how serious your relationship is. Have you met her parents? I'm one of those old fuddy-duddys who think that octi should be reserved for the playoffs, but since this is as close as Dallas will get this year, it's kind of you to give them at least a taste of the playoff experience. If you're really nervous about getting caught- wear a Stars jersey (get a cheap one at a thrift store) over a Wings t-shirt. If the jersey is white and the t-shirt red, you might need a white t-shirt over the red one to camo the red. Then once you get inside, give the Stars jersey to an underprivileged child (one whose parents haven't raised them as a Wings fan), ditch the white t-shirt (they're cheap at thrift stores) and wander about proudly wearing the Wings colours. Or spend the game in a Stars jersey and when security asks who threw the octo, just shrug and ask them to explain icing.

Come on boys, one more point and we're in the show! FIGHT!

I've never cheered for the Avalanche before, but god would it be good to see Minnesota miss the playoffs after tossing all that money at Parise and Suter.

I will probably catch a lot of grief for this, but I have to say looking back on it, this has been one of my favourite seasons in the last 10 years. We as wings fans seem to expect to make the playoffs every year, and anything less is a far cry from reality. Well so far that reality has been setting in as we fight with two other teams for the last 2 spots, something some of us haven't seen, and others not for a while. We all complain that this team has been stagnant for a few years, well this year the wings have gotten, bigger, stronger, faster, and younger. We are rebuilding on the fly with playoff hopes still at hand, and we started the season with a defense that was laughable at best. The controversy, the fight, the will, and the drive are keeping this younger team in contention. This season has been like a true underdog story out of the movies, almost like remember the titans, except the tragedy was Lidstrom retiring. It really has been very infuriating at times to watch, but from start to finish has kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. Win or lose, I like this younger team (save for Cleary, white, quincey and others at times) and it really has been a blast, so thank you Red Wings for another great season, even if you don't beat Dallas, and we miss the playoffs, as kenny would say, i like our team

There's a REASON the Wings haven't missed the playoffs since 89-90. There's a REASON they're going to go to Dallas and get a point or two and keep the streak alive. The REASON is they're the Detroit Red Wings. There's a pride inside the sweater you don't always see elsewhere. I'd be stunned if they didn't win tonight. I do. As up and down as this season has been for us, if we beat the President's Trophy winning Blackhawks in the first round it would be almost as sweet as Lord Stanley.

I was thinking about taking one to get things amped up for the boys. However, being an away arena, I'm fairly certain I'll get arrested or at least kicked out, so I would have to throw it towards the end of the game, hopefully when they are winning. Although, I'd really love to throw it out early and give them some spark. What do you think? How the hell do I get it in?

i tossed a stuffed octopus my daughter gave me.... "one of her many animals" from the aquarium trips in phoenix last year. the game where bertuzzi won the shootout with his patented spin backhanders. well, i had it low, and when everyone erupted i threw it like a hand grenade and kept my hands up in celebration. once the crowds started to head for the aisles i turned, started walking and removed the wings jersey and passed it off to the wife. we split up and headed for the door. but...at the top of the stairs..security stopped us and accused my good friend of throwing a dead animal on the ice. well, he had a field day with the 2 security guards and 4 cops that wanted to detain us. ( he loves conflict...especially when he was innocent) so they claimed they had video of him throwing it...and we waited....and waited....and i asked one of the cops if i could go. sure enough...i walked outside to meet up with the wife. 5 minutes later my bud came out giggling like a school girl...he had read them the riot act and the cops got mad at the security guards on a power trip for wasting his time. so all i can say to you is...prepare for the heat....have evasive manuevers planned....lose the jersey on the fly.

Easy. Columbus has never done anything to earn our disdain and their fans are really cool for the most part. Columbus has made an awesome comeback this season and deserves to dance in the playoffs if they can swing it. While Minnesota hasn't done anything that I can remember to cause me to hate them, look no further than centcougar as an example of their fans after they signed Parise and Suter. I'm downright chortling at the prospect of them missing the playoffs.

Looks like we're getting some perspective on this one, hey? Obviously the Wings could still miss the playoffs. But centcougar's post is just too funny right now. Edit: Sorry, I know it's probably not necessary to bump this. But at the very least it should prove to people that landing the big UFA's isn't everything. So many people thought that Minny was in such great shape.

I don't want to face Analheim (travel) or Chicago (um, look at their record) but if were going to be in this, we have to face one or the other. I'll take whatever we get, just so we get in.

Hi, I created an account to say that you have to throw the octopus on the ice.

I am alerting Dallas management to be on the lookout for any octopi being brought into the arena. Until the Penguins have a similar tradition, I want this kind of thing snuffed out. I will make sure to let them know to heavily scrutinize anyone in a Wings jersey, especially in a WC jersey.

I think IF the worst case scenario happens and I got booked on it, I think I could beat the charge due to the precedence and acceptableness of hat trick hats. In a court of law it would be hard to explain why that is acceptable and the octopus is not. I also think it's completely hypocritical of the NHL to say we can't do this yet they continue to use footage of Al swinging the octopi in their 'Because it's the Cup' commercials.

When I see the octopus hit the ice and the majority of the arena erupt, I'll be like "I know him!!!!"..... Sorta
