I miss the fact that play doesn't continue after someone lays another player out with huge, clean hit. It pisses me off that players go after Kronwall (or any other player for that matter) after a huge hit. To me, this should be called as delay of game if it immediately follows a legal hit.

    Watching Ericsson mature

I have always been a supporter of Johnny...even when he struggled to find his game I always thought he could elevate. I thought last night that the Big E had the VERY best game of his career. I think it was overlooked by Pashas unbelievable shot and Bruns OT winner, but he has really impressed me in the playoffs and especially last night. He used his size to punish the quacks over and again. He has been a difference maker on the PK. He also made some really good decisions with the puck. Like a few guys on this team, he stepped up. After being the goat on this roster, I wanted to give props where they are due. We are watching Ericsson turn into a legit shut down Dman and it's very cool to watch!

    Leaving a job.

The people who you got along with or who you think can help you out professionally, and vice versa, keep in touch with. It's normal feelings. I got let go in early January without warning from a job I had for nearly 8 years and grew to really enjoy. I didn't make a whole lot of money, but just about every day I enjoyed what I was doing, enjoyed the people, and so forth. Needless to say, I was shocked, devastated, angry, and so on. The split was not passed on well from upper management to me and it is something I will never forget. I understand the risk of being let go in any job, but I'll just re-state how I was let go was completely unprofessional, I'll leave it at that. However, during my long time there I met good people, still keep tabs with what they are doing, both at that company and some that have left elsewhere also. Thankfully I was able to find new employment fairly quickly about 1 1/2 months later and am enjoying my new position most days. Good people. So, try not to get over-emotional on things, but it's natural obviously to feel upset or sad for leaving a place after so long. Maintain contact with the people that you established good working relationships with as well as friendships. They'll help you down the road.

Anyone who says Howard is bad should watch Fleury play. Now that's a bad goalie.

    Watching Ericsson mature

His first full season was 09/10 prior to that he played 8 games in 07/08 and 19 games in 08/09. He was drafted 291st the last player drafted in '02 which was the year he switched from center position to defense. I'd say he has done quite well.

We can agree to disagree on where he should be in terms of lines but I do disagree with not using his body effectively- that's one of the features of his game that has become a weapon. He lead ALL defenseman in hits by a landslide ( 26 more in the regular season that Kronwall) As for trading him.....we just signed him in the summer so he isn't slated to become a UFA for 3 years. At a 3.25 million cap hit, I would also disagree with your assertion that he is overpaid. Quincey makes more! Anyway, I am not arguing that he is the next Bobby Orr or that he should win the Norris....I simply wanted to give Kudos where they are due. We dog the guys when they don't show up...I think we should also praise when they excel.

My question is, would Ericsson and kindl have progressed like they have if Lidstrom didn't retire. The extra responsibilities may have been exactly what they needed to take the next step.

A couple of my friends from Windsor were at this game. They always send me pics and vids since I can't be there. This is the one they sent me of the Kronwalled chant.

What do we need this off-season?

I would like to see the following changes (without naming any UFA names to acquire, we all know we need some more scoring and a possibly via trade a #1 Defender.) I know I will get flamed for mentioning Franzen, but I think Holland should try to find a team that would take on that long contract. I still think Vancouver is the logical place and considering there horrific dump thus far in the playoffs, they will be looking for some changes as well. So after the season, possibly at the draft I trade Franzen. For this scenario, I am trading Franzen for Burrows. (just hypothetical) If Filppula also will not come down from his $5M demand, I also trade his rights at the draft or at least before he becomes a UFA. Not sure what he would bring being a pending UFA, but the prices have been pretty high around the league for pending UFA's, so he may bring more than expected... for this scenario I am trading him to Dallas for Erik Cole. (hypothetical) Ok, flame on with those two, but I think the rest of what I think we need to do will garner more support from you guys. Ian White - leaves as a UFA. Obviuosly there is no room for him and Babcock has no intention of playing him anyhow... Drew Miller - leaves as a UFA. He would be missed, but roster spots are scarce and Patrick Eaves is already signed for another year, so unless there is a trade that involves Eaves, I think Miller will not be here next season... Daniel Cleary - leaves as a UFA. Thank you Dan for the years and heart, but again, roster spots are scarce and its time to move on to youth. Todd Bertuzzi - Either an amnesty buyout or LTIR. Either way, his roster spot and cap hit is needed. Again, it's obviously Babcock has no interest in playing him, or he just isn't healthy enough. Mikael Samuelsson - Amnesty Buyout. Period. He has no place on this team, no matter what he does in the remaining playoff games, his spot is needed and so is his cap hit. Carlo Coliaicovo - Either amnesty buyout or sent to the minors (if buyouts are used on Bert and Sammy) and if he happens to clear waivers his "buried" cap hit will only be $1.575M instead of his full $2.5M. Sure its valuable cap space, but with the emergence of Jakub Kindl and the sign of Danny Dekeyser, there just is no room for him, unless the Wings want to carry 8 defensemen, but that $925K in cap relief could come in handy. If we are lucky someone claims him and we lose the entire $2.5M. We obviously re-sign Damien Brunner, Joakim Andersson, Gustav Nyquist, Brenden Smith & Jakub Kindl. Then all season long you work on getting Danny D re-signed long term and try to convince Datsyuk to re-sign for a couple more seasons... So that leaves me with a roster like this: Burrows - Datsyuk - Tatar Cole - Zetterberg - Brunner Andersson - Helm - Nyquist Tootoo - Emmerton - Abdelkader Eaves Kronwall - Ericsson Dekeyser - Kindl Quincey - Smith Lashoff Howard Monster ...this is just me, I really don't see Holland trading Franzen, but if any team calls about him, it'll be Vancouver and it's my opinion that Burrows is a much more consistent player, and a completely different type of player than Franzen. It is likely that Filppula is not a Red Wing next year if he doesn't come down from $5M, to more like $4M. But still, its time to change and Val just doesn't add up to what we need in the East. Like I said, I don't even want to drop any UFA names because I too think the UFA crop this year will get WAY overpaid... I do like the idea of Clowe and/or Penner on this team for size. The possibilities are endless. I just hope Holland doesn't "like this team" and keep it the same for his virgin voyage in to the Eastern Conference...changes are needed. $4.5M too much for Val...and no way Frk, Sheahan or Nestrosil are ready for the NHL, especially the East. They may get some time, but they need to get gradual time...Tootoo also needs to stay for our journey East.

Now that the Wings have gone beyond all our rational expectations, can the people who are posting things like "God, we are awful" please just cool it for the rest of the playoffs? We are going to get scored on. And we are going to lose games. That's not Kind. That's not Samuelson. That's not Howard. THAT'S F$%KING SPORTS, PEOPLE. Now is the time to cheer for the Wings. Not trash them. We've got a good squad.

So the biggest Red Wings whiner makes a thread about not whining... That'd be like Blueadams making a thread asking people to stop making lines threads.

Do I need to go dig up all the posts of you complaining? Just because you've decided to be all sunshine about the Wings now that they've evened the series doesn't mean everyone here needs to fall in line with whatever way the winds have blown your opinion today. Your newfound optimism is no different than people venting saying the Wings suck after a tough loss.

As far as the game goes, I don't really miss much. With the exception of diving, which isn't as out of control as some make it seem, I think the game is better in pretty much every way now than it used to be. Goalies are tougher to score on, forwards are super skilled and moving faster, and even the lower end guys need to be able to play the game. I love not seeing the Marty McSorley types bungling up and down the ice. Tough guys need to be able to play now, and I love it. Sidebar: I love watching Brandon Prust play hockey. I guess the only thing I miss are the individual players who were so good over the years. Lidstrom, Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanny. All amazing. And when I think about how much time I spent watching them, and knowing that I'll never see them play again, bums me out a bit. I'll see other amazing players...and have (Datsyuk)...but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't do just about anything to see Fedorov take an outlet pass and race up the ice and do this one more time... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDkodlLc274
