    Slava Fetisov Interview

I may be remembering this wrong so I'm putting this out for those who may remember in hopes that someone will confirm or refute this. As I recall, Vladdy was amongst those benefiting from the Toast of Hockeytown and other fund-raising charitable events when he was first injured and began his rehab up until his lawsuit against Gnida and/or the limo company was settled. As far as responsibility, I'd think that the NHLPA would be more beholden to help than the team, but I can see why the team (and owners) would have a personal reason to step up and help. In the end, we don't owe each other (outside of our families) anything. Rising up and giving to each other out of the goodness of our hearts is what makes us realize the good that is out there and gives us incentive to carry on and contribute to help those who need it in the hope that they will continue as they are able.

Kronwall and Smith didn't get murdered playing together at all. They did it the entire time E was gone and were fine at both ends. That's why I suggested the pairing -- Quincey and Kindl don't make Smith better, but Kronwall did. Also, I hardly recall Smith playing with DeKeyser at all. Maybe Lashoff some, but Smith's partner was almost exclusively Quincey before E was hurt. I do agree that getting another d-man is imperative regardless. Someone that can move the puck and chip in offensively is a big need for the Red Wings.

Don't Push me will be in my head for days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G76eadv6ZM&feature=player_embedded I posted one in the Flames vs Nucks thread but I thought with there being a 2nd one that it was worthy of its own thread.

    NHL may rethink Sochi

At least prisons are secure, and theres potable water. Plus that was 34 yrs ago, the standard of living for the average person has risen dramatically since then, not to mention that of a professional/Olympic athlete.

I agree. He's had a rough go this year coming off an injury plagued season straight to a groin issue and a sports hernia. After the Olympics, the real Weiss will be back methinks. Add him to the line up we have and we're looking good. Add a healthy Franzen and we're lethal. I think that this year is a real lesson for Kenny and Babcock showing that you don't always have to be overripe, but ripe is good too. We have a great future at forward and with the likes of Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen and Mantha on their way as well, we're looking good. Add to the mix a guy or 2 out of Callahan, Tuzzi Jr, or Nastasiuk and you got some sandpaper. On D, Ouellet, Sproul, Backman, Marchenko, Jensen and possibly De Haan sounds good if I remember correctly, we have a bright future there too. Then you have Mrazek and Patterson to try to steal a job from Howard in the coming years, all the naysayers claiming the Wings are "done" now that Lids retired have no clue whatsoever and they forget that despite Holland's latest signing bullpoop, we still have great scouts that whisper some pretty damn good names in his ear at the draft table.

Call them the Thieves....since they basically stole the roster spots of Bertuzzi, Cleary and Samuelsson... or Career Enders for the same reason...

    So what do we call the 26 - 15 - 21 line?

Two Toms and a Tink. The Future Line. The Fighting Slovaks. ("Fighting" for Sheahan's Notre Dame) The Graduated Griff Line. JST ice (pronounced justice). The Replacement Parts.

They don't, but it sure beats discussing whether Kronwall is a top 30 dman...

Right. They're a business. Maybe they paid a big chunk at the time but they weren't liable for the accident. I never assumed they ever paid for his care, never crossed my mind. They've done all right by Vladdy, I think. I hope.

You see now, some people like to s*** in their own corn flakes, eat them anyways and then complain about it. If Czech Republic and Slovakia never split, we could have named the line Czech's and Mate.

Strangely enough, that mish-mash would be the best looking of the 3. Smith plays really good with everyone not named Quincey.

In GR it started with making downtown more attractive. The arena went in, a few restaurants and bars went in. More people started coming down or sticking around after work instead of heading to the suburbs for dinner. It slowly built from there, a new bar/restaurant opened here, one place started pulling in bigger name bands on the weekends instead of just local and regional acts, things got nicer, some buildings were converted to living spaces that appeal to single people with cash to spend, which meant more places to spend that money came in, etc. Now Spectrum hospital and Grand Valley State have both expanded a ton, and downtown GR is a pretty busy place almost any night you go down there. Before, the GVSU downtown campus was one building and no living space. Now they have a bunch of apartments, the original building, a medical center, plus a pretty good sized complex of classrooms and offices. It's going to take more to turn Detroit around, and it won't happen overnight, but given that the alternative is nothing being done and the Wings moving to the suburbs, I think this is the better solution.

If we make a move draft picks are going to be huge. We can't offer much in terms of players, but we need to offload someone for cap reasons if we want to acquire anyone. Since Cleary won't net us anyone, we'll have to package a lesser guy with a draft pick or two. With how stacked we are down the pipeline, I'm perfectly find with tossing draft picks around (to a point) like candy if it gets us someone who can help.

    I'd go with Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader Helm-Datsyuk-Alfredsson Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco Miller-Andersson-Eaves

Whatever you call them, I really like how Jurco consistently finishes the body for a skill guy. Good stuff! esteef

So you want a different set of rules. Which will benefit the teams that are more likely to throw cheap shots. IMO, that attitude is stupid. The rules are the rules. If something is a call in the first 2 minutes, it should be a call in the last 2 minutes. Either way the ref's decision affects the game. If he makes the call, it benefits the team that should get a PP. If he lets it go, it gives the team that committed the penalty an advantage where the other team was probably called for a similar penalty and had to kill a PP earlier in the game. As a player I want consistency above all. If you're going to call everything. Fine, I'll know that. If you're going to let things go, fine, I'll adjust my game accordingly. But if you're going to let 6 blatant trips go and then call someone for tripping when a guy falls on his own, that's when I get pissed.

    What Are You Playing?

Haha. She's actually played (and beat) GOW 1, and she watched me play the first few stages of it the other night. She's well aware of the level of nakedness in the series. My wife likes to play games as well, though her selection is a little tamer than mine. She's a huge fan of The Sims, but she's also played Red Dead Redemption (LOVES Undead Nightmare), and many other games that I play too. She just hates Skyrim. Wondering if she's really "The One" after all...
