You know, it really hurts me to see LGWers that I care about arguing over Canada/USA and which team is going to win silver/bronze. Can't we all just get along?

Man, I want the Olympics to end just so we can all go back to being Wings fans.

I'll be shocked if Almqvist is on the team next year

You're underestimating our ability to come up with excuses....If we lose to anyone at any point in time there will ALWAYS be excuses...most of which will rightfully be incredibly hilarious to you guys. Bad Ice, Bad Refereeing, wrong coach, wrong line-up, Crosby had a hangnail that hindered his shot all tournament, some idiot in Regina shaved his Olympic beard too soon, Glen Healy stole our mojo...we've got a million excuses when we lose. Win or lose at least we've still got curling right fellow Canucks???

I was referring to the hundreds of posters on HFboards who seemed to be trying to figure out any scenario they could where they were on the opposite side of the bracket. Posts like these That's just from a tiny portion of that thread...Maybe Red Wing fans are a little more open to a tougher challenge on the way to gold, as I didn't see anyone posting thoughts like that here, but it seems that the wider team USA fanbase really didn't want to have to face Canada unless a medal was on the line.

Thought I'd bring this up again as Athanasiou was just named the OHL's player of the week for the second time. He's now at GP-53 G-41 A-39 P-80. 4th in league scoring. LINK

What we should do (and the only logical thing to do at this point) is buy out Zetterberg. It's the only way we'll stay competitive the next 10 years. He's a locker room cancer, doesn't produce, I'm sick of him... http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2011/7/12/2267729/weekly-hate-zetterberg-the-malcontent Maybe this is management's wake up call and after Z, we'll take care of Pavel 'one-dimensional' Datsyuk and Niklas 'soft' Kronwall

There was absolutely no way Cleary was more deserving of a roster spot than anyone else. His resigning was pathetic, and anyone who points out his "playoff warrior" status should take a deeper look at how he accumulated those points.

When I hear statements about the players being "paid" during the olympics it makes me think directly of elementary and high school teachers (in canada at least) who get paid during the summer even though they don't work during that time. The pay is spread out over the year and even though they are earning it all in a 10 month span - they aren't paid it all as they earn it so they get money during the summer. This isn't really in response to anyone in particular - I just think its not as simple as saying NHL players are the only career where you can get paid while you aren't directly working for it.

Me too! That's what this is all about. Until the Olympics are over you Canadians might as well be Penguins fans! Yeah, I went there.

So if 2 teams want him and both are offering a similar package, trade him out of the division. If Anaheim will only give up a 6th and Boston will give up a 4th, take the 4th. Like I said, Quincey is not a guy you worry about coming back to haunt you with his new team. Ott for Andersson, a 4th, and Samuelsson, if I was able to talk to Ott and he said he was willing to sign a reasonable extension. Otherwise I wouldn't give up more than a 3rd if they took back Samuelsson to make the salary work.

Too much pointless arguing here, who gives a s*** what team was best in the group stage. If it's 60-40 in Canada's favour or team USA's favour when they meet is utterly irrelevant, it's one elimination game and absolutely anything can happen.

To be fair, he started that with 'I think'. He's allowed to think whatever he wants, at least in this country. Although, technically Canada is top 3, right behind Sweden and USA. I see your Doughty and raise you a Kessil

if USA women's hockey won 6-1 against Sweden then Canada should beat the Swiss by at least 9 goals,...if we are to believe the hype of Canadian hockey lore...I guess, because as American's we don't get what it means to be a Canadian hockey player or know anything about teams in Canada...why is Canada even playing RR games and semi finals? They should get an automatic bid to the Gold medal game and wait for a worthy opponent to meet them, and if said opponent isn't worthy enough, Canada should be given the Gold...heck, may as well have two Canadian teams in the Olympics and just let them play for the Gold...no one else is good enough or understands Canadian hockey... edit: *disclaimer* This post is what most Canadian fans seem to see when USA fans try talk about hockey and what most USA hockey fans see when Canadian fans try to tells us about Hockey... it is in no way my opinion... (not all the time anyway! )

Dude, you're barking up the wrong tree. Fact is, the Franzen hate around here makes no sense and never will. Somewhere along the line Franzen got a certain reputation and people ran with it. Now they spend all their time trying to justify this hate post hoc with a variety of silly reasons. Franzen's a floater (he isn't, you don't score as often as he does by not playing), Franzen's streaky (he isn't, or at least not more so than Zetterberg who typically has longer scoring droughts than Franzen), Franzen doesn't play defense (he does, in fact he's so responsible Babs has been using him on the PK), Franzen's contract will be horrible when he's 40 (maybe, but so will every other back diving contract like his. What makes him different?) Franzen's injury prone (he isn't, at least no more so than Dats and Zetterberg and far less so than Kronwall) Now, here's the funny part. People say all these things about Franzen, and then when he's playing and scoring and making a difference (which is nearly every game) you say "I thought Franzen was a bum" and they'll reply "Well he isn't a bum NOW, because he's trying". Soooooo stupid.

Yeah why would we want to keep one of our best goal scorers on a team that struggles to score goals!!! Holland refuses to buy out Franzen because he's not clinically insane. There isn't a GM in all of hockey who would buyout his contract, the value on it is fantastic. We could still sign someone like Vanek and keep Franzen so there's absolutely no point in buying him out. Although I personally don't think Vanek is worth the 8+ he'll probably get on the open market. Its also hard to say Holland won't pursue free agents when we signed 2 of the biggest this past off-season and just missed out on the biggest one the year before. You'd be hard pressed to find a GM who is more active in Free Agency.

There's a lot of room for activities with all that cap space. The day that Z gets bought out is the day I ride to Holland's house on my Back to the Future hoverboard and punch his wife in the face on the way to cash my lottery check while holding my Oscar and s***ting gold doubloons out of my ass. Come to think of it I'm really rich in this alternate reality *thumbs up* What were we talking about?
