Mrazek is the real deal, and will only get better with more experience. All he does is win in every level he has played in, and has been fantastic while doing so. Gus has helped in the first half of the season, but he has always been inconsistent, and he is always getting hurt. It is time for Mrazek to get his experience in at the NHL level so he can eventually steal Howard's job. Mrazek has done nothing but impress in his limited NHL playing time that I've seen. He has nothing left to prove in the AHL. I was actually kind of bummed out he had to spend this season with the Griffins. Leaving him in the AHL next season would be like leaving Nyquist in the AHL all this season. It just can't happen. I guess it's a good thing Cleary doesn't play goalie.

How good is Boston at team defense? Just look at their goaltending stats this season. Rask: 2.04GAA, .930SvPct, 36-15-6-7 Chad Johnson & Niklas Svedberg: 2.10GAA, .931 SvPct, 18-4-3-2 There's essentially zero dropoff from the possible Vezina winner to the no-name backups (who actually had a better won-loss record). Granted, it's harder when you're the top guy and you have a heavier workload, but I think it shows that while Rask is excellent, the Bruins also put him in a position to excel.

I can see both sides. Yes, Rask is very, very good. It's also true that he plays for a team that plays excellent defense in front of him. If you put Howard in a Boston uniform, is he as good as Rask? I really doubt it. But I don't think there's much question that whatever flaws Rask has, they'd be more exposed playing for Detroit, and Boston would probably do a bit better at masking Howard's.

umm Rask has a career GAA of 2.11 and sv% of .928, and in the playoffs it's even better, 2.04GAA and .933 sv%. Rask IS that good

I'm on the fence regarding re-signing Legwand. I do firmly believe that without getting him at the deadline, this team wouldn't be playing right now. I know everyone is just incensed over losing Waynlle Jarnkretzky, but I think this team is showing right now that they'll be better off without another smallish forward on the team. I do have to wonder if he'll test the market. Behind Stasny, the UFA market is extremely thin for top 6 capable centers. Legwand could stand to get a hefty offer from another team looking for a 2nd line center. I also for some reason don't think the whole "playing in his hometown" thing is factoring in much. In his first game here, they interviewed his Dad at the Joe who made it seem like playing here wasn't the biggest deal. If you subtract the Red Wings UFA's and assume that all notable RFA's get re-signed, the team has 12 forwards and 6 dmen in the fold. If they re-sign Quincey, Legwand and Alfredsson, they go into the season with the same team that is getting out muscled by the Bruins and can't produce on the PP, except for the additions of a healthy Zetterberg, Weiss and Ericsson. Is that enough to make this team any better?
