Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
Wheelchairsuperhero and 3 others reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
I have no problem with Darren Helm...as a third line center. I think in that role he's got a comparative advantage over almost every other third line center in the league. I also think, in that role, he can take on more defensive responsibility (which he seems good at), thus allowing us to exploit matchups. Where I don't like Darren Helm, as should be obvious, is on a scoring line wing. Sure he can be made to look decent there (Ian White could be made to look decent on a top defensive pairing too), but that obscures the fact that his talents are better utilized elsewhere, and somone else (who has the skill set needed to be a top six winger) could be slotted in that spot for maximum efficiency. But what do I know? I'm as wrong about the roster as I am right most of the time. Nevertheless, I'll beat the drum for moving Helm, not because I don't like him, but because he's redundant on this team and we've got a couple of needs to fill to be a true Cup competitor (in my opinion). -

We are better than the Leafs. In almost every way. Goals Against, PK%, PP%. They only have us beat in goals for. They’re #1 in the league. But they’re a run and gun team with bad defence (#20 in goals against). That is, ultimately, losing hockey. -

The world is falling!!! I'm not going to use the last 3 games as a sample size for predicting this teams future, I'd rather use the entire season we've currently played to judge them. It looks pretty good. -

Exactly. Not to mention the Wings absolutely dominated the first shootout loss, and it was just more bad luck than anything. Not like they played bad against Florida either. As for last night, I chalk that up to being the 3rd of 3 games in 4 nights. It happens. The team will be fine. -

1 pointIt was sarcasm, but I defenitaly agree with you about what Helm's role on the team should be. Although I see him more as a 4th line center. But I would still rather move Andersson, he'll bring back less-but he's completely overshadowed by other players on the team.

This roster is one top D and power forward short of being a real contender in the playoffs. Not sure if we have enough assets to make the deals we need. -
1 pointIf you check the Red Wings twitter page on gameday, they will often announce that the game has is open to military and student rush and for most games the tickets are $15 for the upper bowl and $40 at the box office or $5 extra if ordered over the phone. I've done this for the past 5 games I've gone to and it works well because you get a darn good seat most of the time. I don't know if you bought the tickets yet but check some 3rd party ticket websites, they can usually offer a better deal because $35 for that section isn't the greatest deal.

Long season and the Leafs are on a hot streak. It's not sustainable the way they play defense. Besides, we saw the Leafs do this last season too and how did that play out? They should have easily buried the Wings in March and couldn't despite Detroit having no one healthy. -

Yandle-Ericsson Kronwall-Dekeseyer Now we finally have depth... the last pairing would have to consist of Smith/Quincey/Ouellette/Kindl with Lashoff as a 7th which makes a roster d man expendable which gets you Green. Bam RH power play specialist now we're lethal from the back end. Where does our defense scoring sit right now? Don't be fooled Yandle can handle playing defense against top lines when need be, but good thing Babs is a master of match ups and we will always have the puck -

I always thought it crazy when people here said that. But one thing I think people are forgetting is about the parity. Ya some people like it or hate it. But I mean there's like 10 teams that are close in talent. You go on a hot streak like we did or Toronto is now of course you're going to sky rocket in the standings. But all that matters is where we are after 82 games. There will be lots of ups and downs it's just about getting hot at the right time. -

The biggest problem I have with potentially getting Yandle is he shoots left. If they make a trade for defense or needs to be a RH one that can play the PP. Of trade Dekeyser or Smith as part of the package to bring that as long as it was a guy in his prime. -

Fine, you don't like Smith, but you proposed giving up Smith AND Dekeyser. I think that hurts us on defense. We might get a good top defender, but then we're top heavy. If you're going to give up 2 really good players at least make it a forward and a defensman. But anyway, I would be against pretty much anything involving Dekeyser. -
1 pointNever mind the team mates to the rescue, where were the refs on a call that should have been a major? NHL officiating the worst in professional sports.

yup. http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/657486 Hard to believe a couple days ago they were claiming he wasn't. Pretty smart guys. -
1 pointNot saying he hasn't done good. Only screw ups I can think of that he's made is the Lindback deal and waiving Panik. But he was trained by Kenny after all
-
1 pointI think he just plain had to, and didn't exactly manage his roster correctly. I wouldn't have waived Panik unless I absolutely had too. He's been real good whenever I've seen him. World juniors and minors. I don't want to be an unpopular Holland liker (but I am). Holland has waived guys like Nestrasil and Ritola, never a Panik type. In Kenny I trust.

1 pointWe are in a 3 game losing streak, where 2 of the 3 losses were in the shootout and the team we lost to twice is the hottest team in hockey in their last 10 games. It happens. If a 3 game losing streak is the worst of our problems, this is a pretty damn good season! I think every poster on this board would take the position we are in right now if it was told to them before the season. We cant go 82-0, losing streaks will happen. As long as the winning streaks out way the losing streaks, we will be okay.
