    Team next season?

Kindl out for a rookie. Cleary out. Pulkinnen in. Gustavsson out for Mrazek. Andersson maybe out. Anyone wanting a lot of changes is going to be disappointed.

I'm of the opinion that a full rebuild is entirely unnecessary and isn't going to happen, There are transitions happening, a lot of younger players are coming up, a lot of our older players are going to start phasing out, there isn't a reason, nor will they ever just start throwing games to lose for the sake of getting a better pick, to go full Buffalo or Edmonton and have 4-5 seasons of pointless misery when there are only minor issues to address. Would I rather deal with the fact for a season or two that we aren't the top end elite team of seasons past and face a potential early elimination from playoffs over having a terrible string of seasons and getting a higher draft pick that may or may not turn out to be of value to us in 4 years? Yes, absolutely. Again my opinion, and my viewpoint as a fan that has no control over how the team is run anyway.

Literally watching the French broadcast so I don't have to listen to Edzo. I don't speak French.

    Does Kenny Hate Mickey?

I actually have real reasons from my own observations that result in my favorable opinion of Mickey Redmond. A few of them are precisely the reasons you dislike him. You and I simply have different perspectives and want different experiences I totally agree that it's like watching a game with him in a bar and I very much enjoy that aspect of his persona. It's genuine, down home, as if you are sitting watching a game like he's your uncle that actually skated in the nhl. I like the way he comments on penalties, especially compared to other teams color guys. Mickey will often point out that our opponent "Gets two minutes for playing hockey, but we'll take it", whereas other guys take the Homer road and make it sound like it was the most egregious penalty ever as they watch a replay that shows a ghost infraction. I always feel insulted as a viewer when Panger or anyone does that. Mickey is still sharp as a tack when it comes to pointing out things at game speed that I have missed. One example: Countless times he points out a deflection on the goal that I missed, then sure enough you see it on the replay. However, when I watch other teams play I'm dumbfounded at how often they credit the point shot with the goal when the deflection was plain as day and the camera is on the deflector getting congratulated, not the shooter. Then they show the replay and they're surprised as can be at the obvious: "OH!!! It was DEFLECTED". Sigh. Roll eyes. And Mickey tends to point out things that only an nhl player knows, where other "more professional" guys tend to point out things that are obvious to the hockey fan, as if their broadcast is geared toward a least common denominator viewer demographic or something. I enjoy his anecdotal ramblings. For example, Abby being a Muskegon boy. His father Joe Abdelkader always paces back and forth in the living room when the game is on. " You can sit down now, Joe, Justin scored a goal." Believe me, I could go on about how he greatly enhances my Red Wings viewing experience.

Do we need to add grit?

I'm against anything that makes us slower. Speed is our friend. Guys like Grossman and Neil are only going to slow us down. All things being equal, I'll take a tougher guy over a weaker one. But all things have to be equal (or close to equal).

I get it, the missed offsides is the NHL refs' version of subtle interference. I'm hitting the road, Let's Go Wings! I'd love to arrive home and find a few more in our goal column.

Xym we have played all of 10 seconds of the first two periods that resulted in a 1-0 lead somehow. Howard has been stunning. The rest of the team has been underwhelming.

You can't call that. Eddie O bitching about Quincey, but doesn't acknowledge the hooking call was soft. How is that not a conflict of interest on a national broadcast? He seriously can't hide his fandom.

What a phenomenal start out of Howard so far, this could be a really bad game early if it wasn't for him.

They have more value because they're proven players. That doesn't mean they should be traded instead of a prospect.Production in the minors doesn't guarantee production in the NHL. Who is "we?" I haven't been longing for a rh sniper.

    Does Kenny Hate Mickey?

I took it as more Kenny joking around because there was such a long period with no whistles. Or maybe Mickey wanted to say chime in and something but couldn't because of the ongoing action and Kenny knew that (after all, they can see each other and their body language whereas we only have their voices to go off of). Anyway I don't think there's any animosity between them because they typically have excellent chemistry and often joke around. I want to say that Kenny and Mickey celebrated Thanksgiving or Christmas or something recently, but I might be misremembering. I also love all that Mickey has to offer as a color commentator. He is an entertaining individual, not the cookie-cutter type of boring, safe personality that you see so often in sports. The guy is passionate, and what I love the most about him is that he comes off as a fan of the game of hockey moreso than a fan of the Red Wings. Sure he loves the Wings, and it's his job to pass out praise to our team, but he doesn't shy away from passing out praise to players or coaches from other teams, hates weak penalties regardless of who gets the power play, and hates dangerous plays and dives regardless of who's doing them. It's good to have that kind of voice on tv, I think, instead of the mindless homer who puts his team above all others regardless of the situation as well as the game of hockey itself.
