Realgud points everyone. I've been swayed and forced to change my vote again! The major difference between Nyquist and Tatar is that Nyquist is a goose, and Tatar is a Mexican water bug. Now the thing about geese is that some can lay golden eggs, like Gus did during the 13-14 season. However, to lay golden eggs, geese have to be loose. Hence the phrase "loosey goosey". Because geese are not always loose, a goose like Nyquist will be streakier from time to time. Being a Mexican water bug, Tatar is obviously more lively and quick with the puck. But the main advantage of being a Mexican water bug is that it is a made-up insect that only exists inside the mind of Mickey Redmond. So basically the sky is the limit on Tatar's potential and what he will develop into. Don't ask me why Mickey's made-up bug is Mexican. I know it's boring nerdy science stuff i got from a spread sheet, but the facts are there. Each has their strengths and weaknesses.

I feel like I remember Mrazek playing best when he got peppered with shots...? I could be remembering that wrong but he seemed to steal a couple games here and there. At any rate, I'm excited to see what blashills effect on every part of the team is. should be an exciting season

I don't agree with that article, I think they are two totally different situations. Dombrowski clearly wanted to move on after he made the moves at the deadline, I am almost 100% certain he is coming to Toronto to take over for Paul Beeston as the President of the Blue Jays. Holland unless he wants to move on or retire I believe he will be re-signed. I don't really see any other GM doing what he has done the last two decades and to maintain it is incredible.

it sounds like you're describing assault. That is generally what happens when you assault someone. Sakic, Roy, forsberg are the only names I've seen...I imagine they're still checking to see who wants to, who can, who can't etc.etc.

McCarty should beat the s**** out of Lemieux for old times sake. Out of no where too. Would be hilarious. And with today's p****fied NHL he would probably get sentenced to jail.

I don't know why you're deriding "the same folks" - I think common sense would make most people excited about our highest picks. Once we see more of players then potential steals in the later rounds can be seen, but draft order obviously reflects their achievements up to that point and high drafts picks are chosen because the professional scouts think they have the highest chance at success. Excitement for Larkin seems to be on a stronger footing than Mantha last year (I'm not writing Mantha off at all - I just think he'll struggle for a bit and hopefully he can adapt/develop/overcome). We saw Larkin at College, we saw him at the World Juniors, the World Championship, Grand Rapids playoffs. He stood out everywhere and adapted to the AHL right away. At this point last year, we hadn't seen Mantha against NHLers or in the AHL. He already had some struggles in the Memorial cup and had the reputation for inconsistent compete levels. I don't know of many warning signs for Larkin that suggest he might struggle with the transition. I do agree that non-1st rounder is a more interesting discussion, though. I like AA. Nobody's mentioned any Dmen. I'd also be interested on perspectives on who people think will play the biggest part in the team's future blue line. It seems very unclear at this point to me.

That won't happen. We'd lose him if he were on waivers. I think it's silly to assume that the #1 tag belongs to either one at this point. Howard has the experience and Mrazek is surely held in high regards by Blashill. Unless an injury takes one of them out or one severely under-performs, there's no reason to believe that they won't split starting time.

I think that a lot of the success attributed to Howard AND Mrazek really belongs to Babcock's shot suppression system. I'm not saying that either guy wouldn't be good otherwise, but it's pretty clear that they didn't get challenged nearly as much as most goalies do. I think I'd wait to see how things pan out under Blashill before I start penciling in starting goalies. Might be that Howard stink worse than we thought, and Petr easily takes the job. Then again, maybe Mrazek falters under more shots every single night and the veteran is our saving grace. Who knows?

Exactly. And seriously, why wouldn't they? I have no horse in this race, so I don't care who the #1 guy is as long as he plays like a #1 goalie. Best case, both goalies are lights out but one is more lights out. How awesome would that be? Worst case, both goalies are bad with one being slightly less bad. I don't want to start a goalie flame war here, but it seems that the members insisting that Mrazek has "already stolen Howard's job" are simply pro Mrazek, anti Howard, and are hoping one succeeds while the other fails. Almost like they'd rather have one great goalie on this team than have two. Which is completely crazy.

I've been watching quite a bit of franson tape lately because I expected us to sign him, and from what I've seen Franson is way too slow..,He's somewhat physical in that he hits a lot, but he puts himself out of position with his hits and doesn't have the foot speed to recover... If we ended up getting rid of Quincey and kindl(not going to happen) I dont even think ehroff would be worth the risk for the bottom pair, he's shown he can put up points, but he can't stay healthy, and he isn't the pmd he once was. Imagine how awful it would have looked had he accepted our contract offer last year. He'd be a huge question mark for the next few years.

You just made my day a little worse. Amazing how this team is too patient with some players and not enough with others.
