To those who want to save money: for what? There's nothing as good as Stamkos coming down the pipe. Not getting him just guarantees we continue to float aimlessly with nothing but depth players.

Martin is a strong skater. I have no idea where are you going with this. Even KH admitted that he needs bigger and tougher players... I guess in your ideal world, KH will bring Flip and Hudler back and call it a day. We have fashion models and not hockey players... Lucic, Martin are hockey players.

Better at what? Hitting? Nobody. We've got nobody who hits as good as Martin. But pretty much all of our bottom end guys are better players than Martin. Did you know that Martin doesn't kill penalties? Really, he's supposed to be the "ideal" bottom end winger and he doesn't even kill penalties for his own team. .02 short handed minutes per game for Martin this year. You know who does? Clutterbuck. And he scores WAY more than Martin too. If everybody were going nuts for a guy like Clutterbuck I'd agree with them. But not Martin. He's not even the best fourth line winger on his own team. Say what you want about Miller (and I don't even want the guy on the team) but at least he does one thing reasonably well that helps teams win games. He kills penalties reliably. Martin does nothing but chase the puck around and hit guys. Whoopdie do! You know who else used to do that? Jordin Tootoo, and what a stud he was for the Red Wings.

They also had the right guys blow up at the right time. They had a 22-year-old goaltender play out of his mind, and their "third" line was an absolute monster. The core of their team is made up of elite talent, too - can't say the same of the Red Wings. The previous 4-5 years, teams who won the cup had a balance of size and skill (maybe not the '15 Blackhawks, so much). I don't think anyone's looking to field a team of Matt Martins. At least, that's not what I'm pushing for.

So what? You really want a 36 year old that isn't very good anymore and can't even play a full season let alone put up 20 points?

I feel like I'd prefer staal as a center backup plan for stamkos over Nielsen.. Not that I'm really fond of staal or anything but I heard he's not expecting a long term deal; as long as he gets a top 6 center spot. Staal for a year or two sounds better than 5+ years of Nielsen to me.. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that; I haven't watched much of the islanders but he might even be a cheaper cap hit than Nielsen too. Thoughts?

Like I said, take with a grain of salt. Its all speculation based on what teams can spend, and what inside sources are telling them.

Bowman's lineup were perfect mix of speed, skill and toughness...

He will end up in Vegas...next year... 4th line = Grind Line What are our options? Jurco, Pulks and Frk are drafted as a skilled players not grinders. 4th line options, we don't have.

TSN has Detroit and Tampa leading the way with 3-1 odds in Stamkos. I wish it was Friday already so I can wind up disappointed.

If we're able to lose Ericsson I'd be ok to play the kids. With Ericsson I'd be concerned. I never really liked him but he was always solid. Last season he was beyond terrible. I'd rather play Ouellet or Smith. To me it's not written in stone that there's no d-man available though. Minnesota wants wingers for a defender. I don't want Spurgeon but I think they're more thinking about Scandella, Brodin or Dumba anyway. Brodin is a rocksolid workhorse similar to DeKeyser, Scandella is a typical stay at home defenseman with a big shot. Dumba still has to learn a lot but he has tons of skill. Sky's the limit for him...and he's a righty. I'd take them all. Problem probably is that Holland doesn't have the balls to give up something significant in a trade. For all three of them I'd happily trade away Nyquist, Tatar plus pick or prospect. Same situation in Anaheim who wants wingers or cap for forwards and therefore seems willing to give away Fowler. Holland should also keep an eye on Trouba. If it's true that he's demanding a lot of money or might doesn't want to resign at all Holland has to have an offersheet ready. Two Michigan top defenders might be available...Holland better doesn't miss out on them if there's the slightest chance...
