I mean, it doesn't seem bad at first glance. But then you remember that Xavier Ouellet put up 60 pts in juniors. Sproul put up 66pts. Both seem pretty far ahead of Hague when they were at that level and they don't contribute regularly in the NHL. Granted, nobody is heralding Hague as an offensive guy, I realize that. But chances are his offense will be minimal at higher levels, which makes me very wary of him as a top ten pick (so I agree with you). I'm guessing that if the kid weren't 6'6 he wouldn't even be a first rounder, but as we all know scouts tend to get stupified by the size factor. Hell, Jordan Sambrook put up 40pts this season in the OHL, and Detroit picked him in the 5th round last year.

Seems like a Dylan McIlrath type. And while I'd like to see McIlrath as Detroit's 6-7, I don't use a top 10 pick on him

No thanks. Doesn't score much, and some scouting reports say skating is an issue. Big, slow footed defensemen, without much scoring are a thing of the past. I'd take Makar or Liljegren first.

I wouldn't get rid of DD. Agreed in year 1 of his contract he wasn't that great, but for a team struggling to find defensemen the last thing I want to do is get rid of a legit top 4 guy who struggled because he was put in a top 2 role. Only way I move him is if its for a better D-man.

Missed the playoffs once in 26 years and you expect the wings to have already drafted their franchise player. Rebuilding is going to take some patience. Wings may not get a corner stone player in this draft but we'll have decent picks for the next few years. Nothing wrong with developing good NHL players in the meantime. Firing everybody after one year of rebuilding is ridiculous. Sound like spoiled unreaslistic (delusional) fans

This is an old narrative that doesn't apply anymore. We have been drafting some size the last few years and it's clear we have been adding size to the draft criteria. Average height in the NHL is 6.01 and the great majority of our picks in the last while are above that: 2016: Givani Smith (6.02, 209 lbs), Malmstrom (6.02), Sambrook (6.02), Larsson (6.02) Elfstrom (6.03) and no one under 6 ft. 2015: Svech (6.03, 205), Van Pottelberghe (6.02), Pearson (6.02), Holway (6.04, 201), only Saarijarvi (5.10) is under 6 ft. 2014: Larkin (6,01), Turgeon (6.02, 203), Ehn (6.02), Perry (6.03), Vahatalo (6.05), Kadeykin (6.05, 227 lbs) Holmstrom (is 6 ft, but 200 lbs) 2013: Mantha (6.05, 221), Nastasiuk (6.02, 202 lbs), Bertuzzi (6.01) Jarnmark (6.01), Pope (6.03), Wheaton (6.05, 223), McNutly (6.06, 210), Melen (6.02) So. in the past 4 years, we've only taken 2 players that were 6 ft. or smaller (aka on the small side). That shows a clear choice for size.

Not to mention with Weber being older, the real downside to this trade will be seen in about 2-3 years when Weber really begins to regress while PK is still in his prime. Unless they win a cup with Weber being one of their MVP's, this trade is a huge blunder by Montreal.
