I think we are safe to assume KH won't add at the deadline. He knows we aren't a contender and we have no pieces to trade away that aren't more important for us. Besides the worry about neither trading nor re-signing green at a lower cap hit and thus wasting a major asset, I'm quite relaxed about this season. If we make the playoffs it will be because our younger guys have taken a significant step forward across the season, and the experience will be great for them, and if we don't we get a better draft pick and accelerate the rebuild. None of our older guys are elite anymore, so we don't have to feel too bad about 'wasting' their peaks, and none of our younger guys have been around that long. We shouldn't be a playoff team really looking at our overall roster, but equally aren't a going to be at the bottom of the standings, so as long as the GM makes decent use of his assets, I'm happy to let the chips fall where they will.

I think the only way to determine who the better captain is, would be to ask players who played under both. Cups is tough, because winning cups is a combination of leadership, talent, roster management, coaching, chemistry, strength of opponents, and even luck. No doubt both are/were good leaders, but I think its impossible to say who was better (as a leader). Who was better as a player, its not even close.

Any chance of making the playoffs ended with Witkowski's suspension. Honestly, who does this team beat in a 7 game series? There has to be some major growth the rest of the season to expect anything from this group in the playoffs. The defense makes too many rookie mistakes.

According to his stats, he's completely useless. They should play him every game the rest of the season just to see if he can even register a point.

I’d say Wilson was pretty much a throw in to send cap back the other way. Holland may have asked for a pick instead, but no dice, thus the upgraded pick. Rutherford knew Holland was at the cap and needed to sign AA, and he wanted Sheahan. The deal opened up just enough cap for it. Rutherford probably wasn’t about to give away a good pick for a ‘what if?’ player. He took a small chance. So far, he lost.

He only played 2 games that year. The following year he would have "qualified" because he played in the finals. But he still only played 2 regular season games that season, so I don't know that he would have "deserved" it. Still better than Jiri Slegr tho. Sheehan/Wilson trade did nothing for either team thus far (as far as those two go). Opening cap for AA (main reason for the deal) and upgrading draft picks still leaves Holland the clear winner.

Yep. That and adding Roy as the final piece. I remember how pissed Nords fans were when the team got moved to Colorado and won the Cup right away. I don’t really blame them though, although I highly highly doubt the Habs would have traded Roy to them if the franchise was still in the same province. Bettman needs to give up on Arizona and move them to Quebec City. They would be so much better off with actual fans and an NHL quality arena already there ready to support and house the franchise. Probably sell tons of season tickets in days just like Winnipeg did.

Bingo Krsmith sorry I wasn't clear on my position. I think we have to get picks and build this house back up as I think we have a few foundation pieces of a potential solid house. I don't see us lifting Lord Stanley this year or next at a minimum unless we somehow channel the ducks of 2002-03 with Jimmy channeling Giguere....

So if we are close to the playoffs, you want Holland to trade assets to improve our team for THIS YEAR? Unless you think you can win the cup, I think it's a bad move to trade assets for a playoff run. We cant win the cup this year.

Well gee whiz. Hope you didn't get any splinters climbing up that cross. Here's the thing; some viewpoints/opinions ARE without merit. That's just reality. I have no problem accepting contrary opinions, only with the ones I think are baseless. If that's not readily apparent it's only because I'm not going to spend that much time arguing against something I think is reasonable. You made some points, I made some counter-points. If you want to address those points, I'm more than happy to discuss them further. But I'm afraid it will take more than hurt feelings to convince me of anything. I would say he's top 10. I think 6th is high tho. OMG, I completely forgot that that was ever a thing. I always look at that Ottawa situation like the Cuban Missile Crisis. You are so thankful that things DID'NT work out differently. I agree with the bold. Y had all the tools I think to come close to Lemieux/Gretzky, but had to make sacrifices for the team. I wonder sometimes how history would view him if he continued to play like he did pre-Bowman. His numbers would be phenomenal, but with less cup success. He never really could have it both ways. I still think he's better than guys like Sakic tho (both as a player and GM ). Lemieux and Gretzky are unarguably in the top 5 all time. Stevie's not, but I think I would put him in the 20-25 range. I agree with pretty much all of this, except the bold. While I agree Abby will not be captain, I dont think the GM and coach take caphit into consideration, and they shouldn't.
