If anything can bring me out of the woodwork, it’s news of My Lord and Savior Stevesus Yzermanchrist making his long overdue return to the Motherland to (not) strap on his skates and lead us to a threepeat, a super bowl win, and the end of the Flint water crisis. The part of my brain that’s not having a fever dream hopes that all is well with his family, has tempered expectations that he will ever return to the Wings franchise in any official capacity, and will wait and see how this pans out like a normal-functioning human being. But I’d be lying if I said my initial reaction to the original tweets wasn’t to aggressively hump the nearest inanimate (or not—sorry Lesley) object whilst scream-singing Don’t Stop Believing. Whatevs.

They are both lazy and they suck.

I feel it was fairly obvious that this was going to happen at some point, however what shocks me is that it is happening now. I always thought that this was going to happen after TB won their cup and began to regress 5-6 years down the road. After today, I can't imagine a scenario where he is not our GM in 2 years or less.

My tournament takeaways: Zadina was one of our better players. Sadly, he also checked off pretty much all of the "Signs Zadina Isn't Quite Ready for Primetime" boxes. The fact that he got drive-by'd multiple times over the course of the tournament is probably reason enough to hold him back. But we'll see how he does in camp. Veleno and Cholowski had themselves a tournament. [Mike Emrick]Myyy goodness![/Doc] Veleno is every bit the player Larkin was at his age. Change my mind. Seems like Cholowski spent the entire summer in an intense Rocky training montage, or maybe the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Should he make the Wings out of camp? Ask me again in a few weeks. Michael Rasmussen is secretly two eight-year-olds in a 6'6"-long trenchcoat and I am going to devote all of my time and energy to exposing this flagrant chicanery.

Zadina is definitely not NHL ready. I'd leave him in the AHL. Kid needs some time.

I'm guessing there is more to this, but I don't think there is any Wings' connection. That doesn't mean he doesn't end up back on the Wings' payroll at some point. 8 years did go by very quickly, reading that it surprised me that it's been that long.

I’m still surprised that the womenfolk didn’t join Steve in TB. Anywho - I’m wishing the best for the Yzerman family, and the cherry on the top would be Steve to become a member of the Red Wings once again.

That actually made me tear (I mean wet myself) up a bit. ”HOME to Detroit” home.

He will still be an advisor for Tampa, but he will also spend a ton of time as a "fan" of our team, watching all the home games as a "guest" of The Ilitch's from their private suite, "getting to know" our (soon to be his) players. This IS happening. Yzerman will be drafting Jack Hughes and signing Erik Karlsson to Detroit come summer.

Agreed. Point is: The "There's no reason why Veleno can't become as good a player as Larkin is" dream is still alive and kicking. Rich man's Frans Nielsen, perhaps?

Aren't you a party pooper. Excuse us for actually being excited about something again on LGW.

Meh. Zetterberg had a notoriously bad prospect tournament. I'm not saying you've wrong. I'll give him a full preseason to see if he adjusts.

I just don't want to see anyone injured in a prospect tournament. If he gets drilled by a big boy in the NHL, then so be it.

Well looks like his arm is okay anyway, that's a huge relief for me. Thought for sure with the way he was holding it something was broken.

Wait and see. With the Drafts and trades Kenny had the last two seasons and with us finally in a rebuild I wouldn't mind if Kenny stays a bit longer. But No. 19 back with the Wings? That would be a dream come true.

I'd like to wish Kenny Holland the best of luck in his future endeavors. Fire his ass tomorrow and bring Yzerman back. I'm suprised, though, that Yzerman didn't see through the Tampa job until they won the Cup. He kind of left them with blue balls. On second thought, maybe the Lions are going to hire Yzerman after yesterday's game.

As I said earlier - my initial impression was that this was for family, or personal reasons...That said - I had no clue that the Mrs was still in Detroit year round, and that their kids are already outta high school (man the time does go by quickly as I get older). Apparently there's a press conference at 4 pm eastern. Maybe this is a flashback to when he was a kid back in '83, and wants a challenge

Maybe Illitch gave Yzerman a call after Holland offered Jokinen the PTO

I don't think that's really much of a factor, I mean they were drafted only 6 years apart. Yzerman's best season, production wise, was '88/'89 with 65g 90a 155 pts 80 games and Fed's best production was '93/'94 with 56g 64a 120pts with 82 games played. Five years, 9 goals and a whopping 36 assists separate their best seasons...and Yzerman played 2 fewer games to get there. We really don't have to speculate about how different defenses were because obviously, these guys were teammates. Yzerman played only 58 games in '93/'94 and racked up 24g 58a 82pts. Fedorov averaged 1.46ppg in his best season and Yzerman averaged 1.41ppg the same year. While clearly Fedorov didn't play to his potential much of the time, and could have achieved more, Yzerman is the guy you choose first in a re-draft...he simply worked harder, which more than made up for any skill difference between these two awesome hockey players. Edit: one other thing to note. Yzerman's 2nd best regular season production was during the '92/'93 season...when he racked up 58g 79a 137pts in 84 games 1.63ppg. Sergei played only 73 games that year and produced 34g 53a 87pts = 1.19ppg.

According to Zadina's post game interview, it was his wrist that was hurt after that hit. Color me concerned.
