Holland set to become GM of Oilers

Holland is good people and he did incredible things for this franchise. I wish him the best.

As I have said before, Yzerman has the benefit of being a fan hero coming into the position that Holland did not. I think that does give him a "longer leash" among fans. That said, too many fans are fairweather and fickle and will turn on him at the first opportunity. We should archive these posts, cause some of these guys praising Stevie now will be the same ones who call for his head the first time he doesn't do what they want.

Holland set to become GM of Oilers

Sad to see the reaction of some Wings fans. I grew up a fan of 4 teams, the Wings, Blue Jays, Raptors, and Lions. With the exception of my first two years as a Jays fan, between those 3 teams I never saw a single championship. Lions can't win playoff game, Raptors have not been relevant until now *fingers crossed*, and outside of a couple good years in 2015 and 2016, the Jays have not been contenders since the '93 team broke up. In that same time frame, the Wings brought me as a fan 4 Cups, 6 finals appearances, 8 conference finals, and they were contenders every single year from when Holland took over until 2013. In that time frame they even successfully went through a re-build on the fly to win a cup. There is no question that between 2013 and 2017 we were in a holding pattern of mediocrity, and we made bad moves, likely done to preserve the streak, but regardless of the reason, it happened. During that time we signed some bad contracts, and bad decisions were made, that is for sure, no argument. With that said, since the 2017 TDL the majority of the decisions that have been made have been good and placing us in the right direction I understand people wanting to move in a different direction, especially with Yzerman, I myself am happy we moved in that direction. But now that Holland is gone, I would think that people would show appreciation for what he accomplished here opposed to having a "dont let the door hit you on the ass" mentality. Its just sad, the Holland chapter is over, rather then judging him for the 4 bad years, or minor mistakes during the good years, lets focus on the 17 good years, and all the championships. I just hope the same people don't turn on Yzerman when the team eventually becomes bad under him, because it happens to everyone eventually.

The Oilers will trade McDavid to the Red Wings for Abdelkader and Ericsson. The fix is in baby!.

Very good numbers in the Finnish Elite League, finishing 6th in league scoring. Every player ahead of him were forwards / older. Kaski will be 24 to start next season. Sulak put up similar numbers (slightly lower) at the same age 2 years ago. I assume he will start in Grand Rapids. He may become a player, but more than likely just a filler. Either way, solid, no risk signing.

CAR vs NYI - Round 2

Umm....Mrazek had a pretty darn good regular season. If he didn't play as well as he did (there is no question he was well above league average)....they don't make the playoffs. Them finishing 7th and squeeking into the playoffs is not a knock on Mrazek, it is a positive....they don't make the playoffs without his strong play. Not sure what the future holds, but in comparison to Howard, his season was certainly better than Howards and moving forward, not sure, but odds are in Mrazek's favour.....simply due to age.

Well said. Exactly how I feel about the whole situation. Realistically, you're probably right. It probably should take another couple years. However, a team with the best player in the world, a competent GM, and a decent coach, could squeak in as early as next season. "Never be relevant again"? Really? You're smarter than that... Canadian teams are definitely at a disadvantage because of the exchange rate, but that doesn't mean they'll fold their franchise. The Oilers aren't going anywhere, and I expect them to start trending upward, especially with the addition of Holland.

I approve of Holland’s decision to leave. He did what was best for himself and his family. At the end of the day, that’s what matters. I’m a little butt hurt how quickly he bounced, but I also get it and frankly I’m impressed how he set himself up. I cant say “good luck” to him. Because I want Edmonton and any team not named Detroit Red Wings to fail.

Did you read something about the Wings being upset by this move? I'd be surprised if they didn't expect this in the first place. I would just as assume he was given a position out of professional courtesy/loyalty for all his years here on the chance he doesn't find a good GM fit somewhere, but with the knowledge that he would be fielding offers. I'm just upset we're losing him honestly, I would've loved to have Yzerman and Holland both.

It hope so. I read that Pat Verbeek would come in as new GM and Steve Yzerman would move up. I hope not because I want to see what Steve can do. I was so looking forward to seeing what Dteve was going to do

Pretty much spot on. Oilers had to throw big money at him to sign him.

Shame, I kinda wanted him here in Seattle. 25 million to run the Oilers is too much money to pass on though. Yzerman now has a friend in Tampa and in Edmonton, wonder if they can help each other with trades.

Bruh, Holland got run out of town by malcontent fans. And more or less laterally replaced by Yzerman who might be 5 - 10% better. If I were Holland I'd be like "eff you you fickle ingrates, I am ******* out of here!!" No one on LGWs gets to talk s*** about him leaving so he can continue to be a GM. I'm happy for him and wish him the best of luck.

Poll: Datsyuk on the team at 41?

There's only one "Bobfather", so I assume F.Michael got his tweets mixed up with some other schmuck...

Find our "safe space"? And hide from the realities of life? Or we could make incredibly wordy signs and march around the national mall.

Now that the Isles have swept out, due to lack of veteran leadership, they'll be calling soon for the price of getting Nielsen back.
