In the last two years we've acquired Witkowski (fought Mantha), Nemeth (fought Mantha), and Erne (fought Athanasiou)... Who is fighting Boeser and Werenski this season?

I wouldn't go that far. I used to watch a lot more hockey. I don't have as much free time these days... I used to watch a lot of CHL games (mostly with Wings prospects), 50-60 Griffins games a season, and every Wings game. Now I barely watch anything outside of Wings games (still don't miss a single game), and maybe 10-20 Griffins games, and nothing noteworthy outside of that... I never voted Trudeau. You hate Canadians? Me neither. I know as much about politics as Jonas knows about hockey...

Seems a little like another Abdelkader to me. Edit: You'll all remember Erne from his bout with noted Red Wings tough guy Andreas Athanasiou in 2017. It was a draw, so apparently he fights as well as Abby does too.

This makes the trade even more confusing... They could have submitted an offer sheet and kept their 4th round pick. There is no compensation on offer sheets up to $1,395,053... Yzerman throwing his buddy BriseBois a bone? Either way, losing a 4th round pick for a capable bottom six forward is a good value trade. If anything though, this trade once again proves why signing bottom six players to long-term contracts is dumb. The Abdelkader's and Helm's of the league can be replaced via free agency or trade, giving up next to nothing... I don't mind the trade, but I do hope we get rid of the glut of mediocre bottom six forwards over the next year...

Nothing to get excited about obviously, but I'll take a plug who can score 20 points over a plug who can only score 10.

2nd line ice time along with 2nd unit pp time...Having AA on one side, Hirose on the other, and either Flip, or Nielsen at center...Could be a pretty good line. But yes - I'd say Hirose has 45 to 55 point potential.

You don't think Athanasiou is capable of retrieving pucks? There are plenty of very productive lines in the NHL that don't have a prototypical "puck retriever" on the line. I've seen a lot of projections with Hirose on that line in place of Zadina. I don't see that being a better option if you're worried about puck retrieval. Who would you put there? Erne? Helm? We don't have the players right now to put together three highly skilled scoring lines, but that's what I'd like to see in the next couple years. The "puck retrievers" can be reserved for the dump and chase 4th line. I'd be more than okay with that as well. Good job. You commented on Zadina without calling him a bust...

r/detroitredwings is great for breaking news and fun facts, but reddit conversations are so surface level and lacking depth. Comments like "Yzerman is lit fam, rise to the top" and real discussion goes unnoticed. It's also completely lacking in any sense of comradery or community. On LGW I know who has something between their ears and who's full of s***. I know who favors rebuilding and who favors going for the cup. I know who follows prospects and knows there stuff and who doesn't. Reddit is full of randos and you have no idea who you're talking to on a daily basis. Call it clicky and highschoolish, but I'd say the true hardcores are still at LGW. Only the fairweathers make their way to reddit. Reddit is a dying site anyway... you're about 4 or 5 years late to the party there Jiim. I give it 3 more years before most users have moved on to the next thing. Reddit lost a lot of its luster in the past 2 years as they've tried to go corporate mainstream. Same thing happened to Dig before them. If you like LGW and want something more involved for the time being, go to HF boards. Reddit is s***.

Exactly. And it appears he's on the hunt for competitive players. To me, other than preaching patience, and obviously tanking, this is the only sign of any kind of real Yzer-plan. Build a team of gamers.

Very underwhelming trade. Of course this means that Yzerman already has a deal in place to trade Abdelkader for a 1st round pick... Seriously though, this trade doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. There have to be other moves coming? Maybe...

It has nothing to do with greatness, the Detroit Red Wings have a philosophy and a certain way they treat their players, which is one reason why I am a Red Wings fan for more than 25 years now. You might not like him that much, but his whole career he gave his best for the Wings and when he is retiring after the season I can´t see Steve Yzerman trading him for a fifth round pick at the TDL and I can´t see a trade with Calgary, given their cap situation.

I think at this point, it's between Byfield and Raymond. Lucas Raymond is who I believe to be the closest though. Who knows how this year plays out though... Also, it's Lah-friend-year, not Lah-friend-yay...
