So two years of this idiot and two years of sloppy, sloppy, play. I also heard they thought he was a idiot when he coached the defence in Atlanta. So will we see a coaching change with the defence or will Babcock keep him on staff? If he goes what are some potential replacements as I am tired Of Detroit looking so sloppy in their own end. -

Yeah, I hear the Senators got Dierks Bentley and Jason Aldean and a session musician to be named later. I hear Blake Shelton is now making noises about being traded to Dallas. -

1 pointA lot of Kindl's mishaps can be attributed to being a novice in a pro league. Everyone has rookie mistakes and they learn from them. If Holland brings up Smith to replace Kindl, I don't think we're going to see much better hockey. Even if Smith has more athleticism than Kindl, right now he has less pro hockey experience, and that's just as crucial. As far as bringing up I Flip, if it even happens, he's going to be playing bottom line minutes like Tatar and Mursak did, not getting second line minutes and again its because of lack of pro experience. You don't want a novice out there against top six opponents for 15 minutes/night. Even if they have a great skill set, they're still ignorant to the pace and tendencies of the NHL.

The only reason i say Smith is because Kindl isnt playing so good right now anyway and i wouldn't mind sitting Draper,Miller or Eaves for a game or 2...I'm pretty sure Filppula is leading the Griffs in PTS and was the only All-Star if im not mistaken -
1 pointi agree, and it's so damn frustrating to watch right now. i think that's why a lot of us seem like we're giving up on the team. however, this team is not even close to being as good as the '08 team. i watched every single game in '08 and the wings looked alright (most of the time) in losses. to put it bluntly: "..or you got it, or you ain't" this team 'ain't got IT' (prove me wrong, wings) 32-11-7 but in 54 games: '08 team 40-10-4 84 points '11 team 32-16-6 70 points that is far off. and besides that, it's not just about the team record. it's about how they play. if the playoffs started today the wings would lose in the first round.

Wow, what a game. That might be game of the year.. Plain and simple Old Time Hockey. I miss those days, it would be nice to see that a bit more -
1 pointin 50 games the 08 team was 36-10-4 in 50 games this team is 31-13-6 5 fewer wins, 3 more losses, and 2 more OT losses. thats not TOO far off. this team has the ability to play great hockey, we saw that in the first 2 months of the season. im not ready to release the hounds on them like a lot of people seem to want to do, but they do have to start playing better, that much is obvious.

Russian player name transcriptions to change, will NHL follow?

Many Wings fans still don't know how to spell Sergei Fedorov's name. I'm not sure what to expect if it changes again. Maybe they will get it right this time. -

Russian player name transcriptions to change, will NHL follow?
LOredwing248 reacted to MulesWillFly93 for a post in a topic
Actually, I don't think this article is talking about putting Russian names in Russian letters; I think they're just talking about changing the Latin (English) spellings to better reflect the right pronunciation. For example, Fedorov would become Fyodorov, not Фёдоров. I think this is a good idea. The only thing that really sticks out to me as wrong are the pronunciation of three letters in particular: e = "yeh," not "eh" (I'm talking about a short "e" sound, here, like in "pet," not Canadian "eh," just to be clear) ё = "yo" (Looks pretty darn similar to an e, right, but makes a completely different sound. Hence, Fyodorov, not Fedorov) o = "oh" (as in "poke") when it's in the stressed syllable, somewhere between "uh" and "ah" when it's not (Ovechkin = uh-VYETCH-kin) I like the IIHF's transcription. It gets as close as possible without being totally confusing. For instance, the two letters that don't make any sound (although they do change the sound of the letter before them) are just left out completely, and I think that's a good move since they don't make that much difference in the word. It's close enough without making the announcers take Russian lessons. Now, the other thing that this does not address is that they need to get the stress on the right syllable of the name (like var-LA-mov instead of VAR-la-mov). There are no rules about where the stress falls on words in Russian, so if you haven't grown up speaking it, it's hard to know where the accent is. In my textbooks, they put a mark over the syllable that gets the stress so we poor students can figure it out...maybe the NHL could do something similar, too (I mean on the announcers' guide sheets, not on the jerseys). Actually, it's: Дацюк Basically, what you've got going on here is D-a-ts-yu-k. ц - this letter makes a "ts" sound. I don't know why that sound needs its own letter when they have corresponding T and S letters too, but that's how it is. ю - this letter makes a "yoo" sound. If you were to use the Russian letter "y," that would only make an "oo" sound. Also, the accent is on the second syllable. Hence, the correct pronuncation should be dat-SYOOK, not DAT-sook. -

Thats going to be real tough for the english speaking fans. I understand how they would want to have their names presented in the correct way, but when the vast majority of the teams income come from english speaking fans, we have to be able to read the names. It would take nothing short of learning the russian alphabet to figure out who these guys are if they were to change them. This would create a serious disconnect between players (especially new ones) and the fans. Just take a look at that Ovi pic... English is legally the primary language in the US and Canada, lets keep it that way folks. And yes I understand that nowadays its very possible that the majority speaks spanish. (I could be wrong on that) -

Agreed on all counts. I understand that people here love the Wings, and the team for the last several years has mostly lacked the fighting element, so they may be inclined to say "who needs it" or "we don't want it." But if this team was winning and could beat the snot out of people, I doubt many here would be complaining either. It'd be an awesome thing to watch the Wings win and intimidate teams physically. -

Helm, Eaves and Draper. They work hard, everyone else could use a nice bagskate. I dont care about how talented they are or anything, comes down to how bad you want it, and right now watching the last 6 or so games doesnt look like are guys want it very much. Lots of time to get that turned around, they just gotta do it. -

I wish the wings would show some balls like that. And what about the crowd? It was nice to see a hockey game where the fans were just as into it as the players fighting. It was just so intense. Wing's fans are so spoiled of winning they just don't cheer til playoffs. Sad. -

You are on crack. Alfredsson might be worth ONE of those assets to Detroit. He sure as hell isn't worth all of them. If we're trading with the 2000 Sens to get a 28-year old Alfie and a 21-year old Hossa, then I'm all for it. -

Babcock knows more about hockey than pretty much all of us, doesn't mean people can't talk about stuff in here. As for McCrimmon, can't blame him fully as he can't make the players do stuff on the ice, but everybody has to have some accountability at the job, he probably shares some of the blame for bad defense at times. -
