There probably isn't one, but you're also missing the point. Franzen could be a lot better than 30 goals and 60 points. With that kind of shot, that kind of frame and those kind of linemates, I'm going to channel Mickey Redmond when I say that Franzen should be on a scoring pace of 40 goals every season these last couple of years. He should be hard to play against every game, which he never seems to be. You're basically admitting that he's an underachiever who's worth all he's paid. So am I. I'm just not happy about it, because he could be better (probably too late now that he's in his 30's). The guy has talent, but doesn't play hard enough every game. I can't excuse that just because he makes as much money as other 30 goal scorers around the league. Those other guys around the league don't have his physical talents. He's untapped potential. And that's why many posters here don't like him. Nobody wants to see a guy scoring two goals one night, and then looking lost and disinterested the next 5 games. Regardless of what he's paid and who else around the league makes what.

Name a player with Franzen's size and skill who takes so many nights off? I guess what makes a player great is part skill and part work ethic/drive. Can't have one without the other. Franzen has always had the skill to be one of the league's best goal scorers. He's big, has a hard, accurate shot and plays with great centermen, whether it be Datsyuk or Zetterberg. That's a recipe for one of the league's best goal scorers. However, he's never been able to take his game to an elite level of scoring. He never scored that 60 points you're talking about. I guess that's why he isn't paid more money. He is what he is. Namely, a guy that can score close to 60 points, but is unable to go higher because of his laziness and shyness. So he's worth the money he's paid. It just seems like a damn shame he couldn't be better, because the tools were there. I look at guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg, who didn't have some of Franzen's natural gifts, but made themselves into elite players. He had it, but never got there.

    Red Wings Goal song?

Depending on how insane, I could go with it. Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" (just the line "all you are is just a...nother brick in the wall" after 55 levels someone then cue the You Got Kronwalled chant could work.

Hi- I come here as friend not foe and I don't intend to stir the pot but just to add my opinion. Firstly- I am a Sens fan but secondly and maybe more importantly I am an Alfie fan. I'm not sure where I stand on all the off season shenangians but you have got yourself a great player- he smart and makes players around him better. I have always considered the Western conference to be superior to the East in terms of skill and I think you guys may be selling yourselves a little short. I think you guys are going to skate circles around the East and cause teams fits for a couple of seasons- until you either devolve or they pick it up. I watched every game of your playoff series last season against the Hawks and the pace of the game was far and beyond anything I saw in the East. You can't hit what you can't catch. I pick Detroit to be in the Final with maybe Piitsburgh...but Detroit will be there- changing of the guard and injuries and you're still scary. Yeah Ottawa may talk a good game but who knows what team will show up-really. Toronto is a two trick pony, Montreal all emotion and Subban is so readable, and Boston has lost a step. I see good things for Detroits immediate future.

A very nice article outlining the efforts of some local firefighters and Nicole Curtis of Rehab Addict. http://www.dfdlegacy.com/?p=2638 Scroll down and the Wings are listed as donating smoke detectors to the effort. Surprised to see that none of the players were out there helping.

For reasons which I explained above. The challenge misses the point, as do you apparently. Then I wish they'd get rid of him, and use that salary, plus a couple extra million for a real goal scorer who plays hard. No use having a floater around, and then excusing his off games by saying, "Well at least he's cheap".

Franzen: "I am not a goal scorer"

Sure, but I doubt it's lack of nerve. That would be strange. Well... well, look, I already told you: I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills! I am good at dealing with people! Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people??! But really, Franzen is a very good value for the price; he scores 25-30 goals and 50-60 points, and he's no slouch on defense. Though it's tempting to believe otherwise, the fact that he isn't bringing the total package to the table doesn't mean he's worthless. If he were being paid $6m per season, expectations would be higher, but he isn't getting that paycheck. He's getting money that more than befits what he is paid, and what he will continue to be paid.

Kronwall is a #1 d-man. Please stop saying #1 d-man when you mean elite d-man. They are two different things. You either draft those guys (and Sproul might get there) or throw a ton of cash and/or prospects to get them for the last half if their careers. The only other way to get one is hope a team loses patience with a kid and they trade him like Hartford did with Pronger.

Now now, this thread was supposed to be about opinions, not clearly obvious facts...I actually prefer regular Oreos to Double Stuf.

Don't know about the generic goal song but I like the player goal songs depending on who scored.

    Breaking Bad

Man it's just phenomenal from the point where you are going forward, prepare to become addicted. I'm going to try to limit spoilers because I know some are in the process of catching up, but last nights episode opened up a few new options to how this is all going to close out... i'm excited.

    Red Wings Goal song?

I'm nostalgic, so I still like "Hey Hey Hockeytown" for the first goal and "Get Ready For This" for the subsequent goals.

99% of the people would trade smith because he is a valuable asset. and unlike on xbox, in real life you actually have to give up something to get something. so its not a matter of disliking him or giving up on his development, its just the reality of the nhl. there are very few people out there that think smith should be traded because he stinks. unfortunately, one of them decided to make a thread saying so that stayed at the top of the list for weeks. made it look as if there were tons and tons of people losing faith in him. most posts in the thread were whining about overreacting, and the others were just advocating that smith be sat for a couple games and not traded.

    Breaking Bad

Man oh man just when I thought I hated Walt more this last episode 12 season 5 makes me think otherwise. However he still is the ultimate liar. Without giving too much away can't believe Jesse is working with you know who. BOGUS. I did and I shelled out on itunes 25 bucks or whatever it was to download the final season. I love Breaking Bad that much even though I'm a poor man lol

If we're talking about the future, then yes, we should wait for Sproul and Ouellet. If we're talking about making a Cup run now, with Datsyuk and Zetterberg's prime winding down, then that's a different story. By the time Sproul and Ouellet become good, our two big guns will be retired or no longer good. We should be more concerned about developing star forwards, if the future is what we're looking at. Like I said, we definitely need a top defenseman, but I don't see how we can acquire one now.

Franzen: "I am not a goal scorer"

Agree with GMR. In Franzen's defense, he didn't come into the league as a pure goal scorer/sniper. He was thought to be more of a defensive minded physical player who could contribute a few goals. After the outstanding playoffs, fans expected him to have 50 goal seasons every season. I think if Datsyuk or Helm had said the same thing, everyone would be drooling with what an incredible statement that was...he's a hockey player, not a goal scorer! My own personal opinion is that since he had the problems with injuries, he's played it more safe and plays not to get hurt. I get as frustrated with Franzen as most people, but I think saying he's some lazy bum trying to collect a check and doesn't care is somewhat innacurate.

The problem is that if Franzen isn't scoring goals, he doesn't bring anything else to the team. He needs to be more aggressive offensively and always look to shoot first. That doesn't always seem to be the case. We've seen him go on streaks where he's as good as anyone in the league at scoring goals. When he doesn't do it consistently, it appears it's because of him having a lazy work ethic. The converse argument is when people state that he produces at the pay level he's currently at. I guess that's true. But that doesn't mean it's OK for a guy to be lazier and underachieve a bit.

Franzen: "I am not a goal scorer"

He needs to step up and PLAY HOCKEY, then, and not float all season only to contribute a few goals in the playoffs. I have my shoe ready to throw at him, pretty much every game. This article does nothing to endear him to me...

    Keep Tootoo, Drop Cleary

He can hold his own, but he rarely fights. Before anyone cries about him possibly getting hurt, better defenseman than him have been a lot more willing to drop the gloves. He needs to use his size more and challenge people. Especially when our guys are being pushed around (Cough. Bickell and Shaw in the playoffs). I disagree. It seemed like Bickell and Shaw wore the Wings out as the series went on. Those guys played well and forechecked hard. That grit paid off for them. We didn't have anyone really doing that to the Hawks defense on the other side. You can't put three small, soft players on the 4th line and hope they can wear teams down over a long playoff series. Some balance is needed there. Tootoo isn't the biggest guy, but he hits hard and grinds well along the boards. Also, don't forget how the Ducks 4th line totally dominated ours in that series. The Wings have had a useless 4th line for years now. We need to have a better identity there.
