Ship off Howard, bring in Miller, give it 40 games next season before the "Miller = Average" thread goes up. He's aging, he isn't what he used to be. He wasn't that good in the playoffs this year, his numbers leave something to be desired. He'd come here, play about on par, maybe slightly better than Howard, but people will realize how much more of an impact the defense makes (if it is not much improved) over the quality of the goaltender. I think a lot of people cling onto how he was 5 years ago, the kind of goalie he was in the Olympics, the NHL superstar goalie, that isn't the Miller we'd be overpaying for and i'd rather see the money go into a better defenseman over a very mild upgrade over Howard for a much bigger contract. It's honestly just my opinion, i've been wrong before, we all have at one point, but I think the focus is solely defense first and maybe one quality winger.

Wings will buy out Tootoo, not Franzen.

You know if we swapped out tootoos heart and brains for franzens we would have a 40 goal a year player who hits and fights and most importantly still does the great things like that video show.

So what do we have to trade?

Howard isn't going anywhere and this is key, he is a better g than Miller is at this point in their careers. Miller playing on a better team sucked in the PO's. Howard had much better numbers vs the NHL's best team. Howard is not the issue. Our sucky D and yes his injuries were the issues this year.

He's getting a "realgud" look at Mantha.

Mantha is the only reason I haven't cancelled my cable yet, in case Val D'or wins it and they head to the Memorial Cup.

They developed him well, put him in a system he could work with, he had a really good mentor in drew bledsoe to help him, and he took advantage of it.Its not luck to find guys that late that fit your system, thats what scouts and your staff get paid to do. they lost tom Brady for a full year and went 11-5 with matt Cassel leading them. Another 7th round quarter back. Montreal is fast, skilled, and the guys they brought in fit into their system. As for your ken Holland jabs, No offense, but that argument is starting to sound like its coming from a spoiled teenager being told no for the first time.

da fuq? hahahaha He read your mind.. or you read his.. Today, Laviolette was able to explain for himself how his preferred style of play should bring more goals to the Predators. “My system has been successful for many years. Primarily, instead of having one guy forward, I send two. The main thing I do is send guys in on the attack,” Laviolette said. “I don’t want people to think I’m going to come in and play reckless hockey. We are going to play fast and aggressive, but we’re not going to give up a ton of opportunities either. The more you play offense, the less you have to play defense.” http://predlines.com/2014/05/07/predators-laviolette-offense-means-less-defense/

But it's Eddie "subtle interference" Olczyk! I understand the need for change, BUT ANYONE BUT EDZOOOOOOOOO!

The wings did beat them 3 times during the season. Obviously they're not unstoppable. I lay the blame on the coaching in this one. I just don't understand why mike does what he does with the lines when it doesn't work, and why he's so averse to icing a team with an enforcer in the playoffs for a game or two. I just don't get the logic.

They look like a team that's missing their heart-and-soul captain. *cough*

So what do we have to trade?

The questions with Smith are two fold. 1. He is poor defensively. 2. he is another lefty. Now one can be fixed, the other can't be. As I mentioned before, if I am putting together a trade for a guy like Carlson-6-3/215 RHed, year younger than smith, great shot blocker, and better offensively than Smith, then hell yes we do it! Same if we are packaging him for a guy like Lucic. No don't trade him for picks. That would be dumb. But to get quality you have to give up quality.

I must say, our fans are way better than Ranger fans. at least we keep our bitching about players on the internet

Smith Dekeyser Sproul Ouellet Marchenko Blackman Mrazek Helm Nyquist Tatar Jurco Mantha even guys like Kindl Pulkinen and Athanasiou have good trade value.

So I saw a Leafs fan do this, and for them all of their fighters ended up at the bottom of the list, so I thought it might actually be a semi decent metric and wanted to see how the Wings lined up. Corsi F% is basically an advance stats proxy for puck possession. (Shots + shots missed the net + shots blocked for your team and the others while a player is on the ice) The Leafs fan did Corsi F%, minus Corsi F% of linemates, plus the Corsi F% of opposition. So basically it's CF% adjusted for the strength of competition and strength of linemates. Here's the numbers for the Wings during regular season 5x5 play: Tatar 0.563 - 0.500 + 0.496 = .559 Datsyuk 0.561 - 0.500 + 0.494 = .555 Nyquist 0.546 - 0.510 + 0.501 = .537 Sheahan 0.561 - 0.522 + 0.494 = .533 Jurco 0.558 - 0.524 + 0.494 = .528 Zetterberg 0.532 - 0.517 + 0.508 = .523 Helm 0.531 - 0.508 + 0.492 = .515 Legwand 0.496 - 0.492 + 0.501 = .505 Alfredsson 0.513 - 0.511 + 0.495 = .497 Franzen 0.511 - 0.514 + 0.500 = .497 Samuelsson 0.505 - 0.505 + 0.497 = .497 Emmerton 0.502 - 0.505 + 0.498 = .495 Abdelkader 0.508 - 0.518 + 0.503 = .493 Andersson 0.500 - 0.515 + 0.495 = .480 Miller 0.489 - 0.510 + 0.494 = .473 Bertuzzi 0.496 - 0.524 + 0.497 = .469 Cleary 0.473 - 0.512 + 0.499 = .460 Glendening 0.462 - 0.518 + 0.495 = .439 Weiss 0.420 - 0.520 + 0.505 = .405 I was glad to see all the kids right up there with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. A testament to how well they've worked in our puck possession system so far. Defensive players like Abdelkader, Miller, Andersson, and Glendening ranked low, which didn't surprise me bc most don't have the offensive ability to possess the puck a lot. Not surprisingly either is how low Weiss, Cleary, and Bertuzzi are, all guys that should have shown more offense. These numbers are far from 100% reflective of puck possession skill, but if we were to go off them a puck possession team should ice this forward lineup next year: Tatar - Datsyuk - Nyquist Zetterberg - Sheahan - Jurco Legwand - Helm - Alfredsson/Franzen Abdelkader - Andersson - Alfredsson/Franzen I think most would agree with that lineup or some variation of it. We also have Weiss who's numbers could be much better next year. Thoughts on the calculations or results? It's very moneyballish so take it for what it's worth

    The Franzen Hate.

This is no coincidence, he's that bad. CapGeek @capgeek In the span of 24 hours, Johan Franzen has moved to No. 2 on our most popular buyouts list behind David Clarkson.

So what do we have to trade?

I agree with the Howard stuff too. He will be better with better defense in front of him. We also need consistent scoring as well. The best trade scenario I seen on these threads was the one that involved Helm and Kesler. I like that deal and I think Vancouver, and their needs would do it as well. I still would like to see the asking price for Kesler and Edler. If you can acquire those two, our score and our D become instantly better. You have to ditch Kindl though, he is no longer an NHL defenseman. Get a low pick for him, more than likely future considerations... IMO our tradable guys are: Franzen, Helm, Smith, Almqvist, Ferraro, Callahan, Andersson, Kindl, Abdelkader, Miller and Ericsson. Howard if you can secure a better goalie, or if Mrazek was in a better position to take over. Weiss if he submits some teams in in modified NTC. Am I saying trade them all? No, but we need upgrades up front and on D. Folks and or picks have to go in order to get better.

Ask the Canucks how easy it is to trade a goalie with a long contract.

So what do we have to trade?

Franzen and Smith are the two I would move this summer. Together they could get us a good dman. If you need to throw in a pick do it, but both if those guys are replaceable in our roster. Especially since we'll be getting a top 4 back. Trade Kindl for a pick at the draft and let the kids fight over his spot. That's all the trading I'd like to see this summer though. Howard isn't going anywhere and in a few years we'll have a 1, 1a situation in net.

It’s true. Just look at all the cups he’s won!!!! I wish Holland knew how to do that.

I've been trying to put my finger on who it is he reminds me of. I think if Thomas Vanek and Max Pacioretty had a baby, that baby is who I'm thinking of.

Rangers just aren't built for playoff hockey and lack depth As great as King and McDonagh are, Stepan has no winger and Nash so far has been a huge disappointment. Game 4 sadly is now a highly recommended win for them.

Then send him packing. Not looking at stats Franzen is not worth much. I would rather an asset in his place then a liability. He's Ovi except 1/10th the player, when he isn't scoring he doesn't do anything else.
