    The Franzen Hate.

The contract is too long - i was a gamble and I'm sure the organization was hoping he continue being the playoff mule he'd been before and the contract could have been a steal if he had. But he was signed to be the tier lower than Dats and Zetterberg and he is that. The Cap hit shows that. And for that cap hit his production is good. The car financing analogy really doesn't seem to be all that meaningful to me. I'm sure there are a lot of secondary players that will make around that much over an 11 year period - just not in one contract. To pick a name who's listed as a comparable to Franzen on capgeek, If Mike Fischer plays 4 more years after his current contract(after next year) at around 3.4 mil. (he will probably get more). he will have made 43 mill over 11 years. he'd be 38 at the end of that. Franzen will be 39 at the end of his contract. The length of Franzen's contract just means that there's a risk that he declines to the point where he his production doesn't warrant the cap hit. The thing to think about with this, though, is that salaries will continue to go up so 3.9 mill in 2019 will definitely get a lower level player than it will now - so Franzen may not be overpaid that much at the end of his contract.

Kronwall Smith DeKeyser Boyle Ericsson Sproul Kronwall Ericsson DeKeyser Boyle Smith Marchenko Kronwall Smith DeKeyser [?] Ericsson Boyle You get the idea. A couple years of Dan Boyle would be nice. But if Darth Snow can win him over to the Dark Side, oh well.

    NHL Logos+The Simpsons

Just saw this, it's drawings of NHL logos with Simpson characters. Love the Sharks logo. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2085851-graphic-designer-uses-the-simpsons-to-redesign-nhl-logos?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial&hpt=hp_c3

Dan Boyle's rights traded to the Islanders…..

Kronwall smithDekeyser Ericsson Oullete marchenko Looks much better IMO. Unless there a few key players added we won't be competing for the cup so let the young guys get better and more experienced. They're also good enough to help us keep the stupid streak alive. And it's perfectly fine to have the attitude of is player x going to help us win a cup. That was my attitude last year. What could Alfie and cleary bring that nyquist and jurco couldn't? Nothing except leadership and experience which we got plenty of. You only sign Boyle and Alfie if they're the missing piece to winning a cup which they aren't. Were too far away so signing them is pointless when we got other(better) players all ready in GR.

I never understood that sentiment, to me it makes zero sense. "Is player X going to win us a Stanley Cup? No, so you don't add him"... No single player can win a Stanley Cup, that is why you need to add "pieces". A better question would be, can player X help us win games? Will he make us a better team? Yes, so you add him. I think Boyle does make us a better team, but would he be my number one choice? No. Do we need to add other pieces besides a Boyle to help us win the Stanley Cup? Absolutely. With Boyle we could have something like... Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Ouellet - Boyle Lashoff OR With Niskanen we could have something like... Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Niskanen Ouellet - Smith Lashoff Which one looks better? I like option two better but option one wouldn't be the worst thing, and is certainly an upgrade over last year, in my opinion...

I know you meant to say "on the third" ...but Quincey IN THE THIRD is EXACTLY when he bothers me. Timely gaffes guaranteed.

Oh, plz. The Wings aren't on the same level as the Sharks. We could really use a Dan Boyle. How does having him on the second pairing for a couple years hurt us? Are we that high on our kids that we feel we need Ouellet and Marchenko taking the hypothetical two spots available or we're not going to be able to compete for the Cup? Kronwall, Ericsson, DeKeyser, Smith, a kid, someone from the outside. That's probably what our blue line should look like next season. If that someone from the outside is Dan Boyle, that's not a bad thing. If he falters, he gets hurt - then guess what: we can bring up a kid. Win-win.

Boyle is a shell of his former self. He was a great defenceman a few years ago but has found himself on the wrong side of 35; and just like most defenceman at this age, is not able to keep up with the new NHL. Sharks fans generally agree that his time has come as well, they are not upset at him leaving. If he isn't good enough for their team, he shouldnt be for ours either based on the amount of kids we need to start having playing time

He was supposed to be guy #3. He was given $43 million dollars. the cap hit argument uses the car payment sales trick. They don't ask how much you're looking to spend, they ask how much you can afford per month. If you finance a $43,000 car for 11 years, the monthly payments don't look half bad. That doesn't mean you're happy when it drives like a Chevy Malibu because the payments are the same size. The fact is the Red Wings don't hand out 11 year contracts to players they only expect to help out in stretches during the year. As far as I know the only player they've signed for longer than Franzen is the captain of the team. And Z has more compete level in his beard than "Mule" has in his entire body.

He's not the guy. Zetterberg and Dats are the guys. Franzen helps out in stretches during the year. His cap hit is not of "the guy". he makes Bickell money, Hudler money, Briere money...

A number of people who post here are pretty pro-Boyle (or just pro veteran, right handed defender). When it comes to the Wings' defensive situation for next season, there are pretty much three trains of thought. #1: Niskanen! Niskanen! #2: Sign Boyle for 1-2 seasons and let one of the kids mature on the third pairing. #3: Let the kids play (Two of Ouellet, Marchenko and/or Sproul up with the Wings)

I'm going to disagree with you guys and say that he's the kind of short term solution the Wings need before guys like Sproul and Ouellet are #3/4 dmen... he signs for 2 years at 5 a year under a familiar coach and mentors the kids (some North American leadership) Let's not forget that Boyle is a pretty rugged player, at 38 he played more games than most of the Wings roster last year..

Breaking News: NHL to have full season + playoffs outdoors in 2024-2025. Report: The Sharks, Kings, Panthers, Lightnings, Ducks, Stars and so on, will play half the season on rollerblades.

How comes? Too old? Or more the fact that KH will probably sign him to a 3 year deal?
  17. 1 point
I still want him here, but trading a 5th (possibly 4th) for an impending, 38-year-old UFA... uh huh. Sounds like a Garth Snow move.

Shouldn't the lower bowl be empty? Also, will Dan Cleary be on the roster, or do the roster updates take care of that later on?

    The Franzen Hate.

He's big, he creates space by often drifting away from areas where he is likely to come into contact with an opposing player.... He's a third line floater making top six money.

Thats overpayment for Kesler and Nucks fans will say it leaves them with no 2C and Helm isn't good enough. Our 1st is fairly high and Smith is a great young player. Helm is the heart of our Bottom 6. You don't get all those pieces for a C that is on the decline and injury prone. Neither side likes this trade. Realistically I see the value as Smith + 1st + Almquist/Ferraro/Andersson for Kesler but again, Nucks fans will cry about no 2C.

There is a chain of guilt here; they just have to find it and "connect the dots", as it were. People will have to outright lie for Moore not to win this lawsuit.
