What should we do with the Monster?

Gustavsson might get a 6th rounder if they're lucky. Send the kid down now and in the playoffs they can bring him up if GR gets knocked out or Howard gets hurt.

Idk.. If Hank manages to play out the rest of his contract and gets another cup and Conn Smyth (which him being our consistent playoff performer is quiet plausible) I believe he has a good chance of getting his jersey retired. I think chances for ozzy are "lower" because he didn't spend his entire career in Detroit nor was he "Captain" status. Z will always be THAT 7th round pick that stayed here his entire career and won stanley cup/MVP, is a triple gold club member and captained his national team. Z's story is just too damn unique to not take notice. Plus Hank and Emma do quiet a bit for the city and I can't think of any fans that "dislike" Zetterberg. Dude's just well respected and all of that is highly considered when you get that number retired. We have to see how the rest of his contract plays out and what becomes of the Red Wings.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

I'm not a big Maple Leafs fan by any means, but as a Lions fan, I can relate to misery. Thank god I also have the Red Wings and the Tigers.

me, neither. Warner Brothers for me. Trivia: they used all the classical music in the Bugs Bunny etc. cartoons to avoid paying royalties. True story. I enjoyed "Waterworld."

Eaves takes a Slapper to the head in last nights Stars/Panthers game. http://youtu.be/PoG1Nhlmuek Where the hell was Klingberg shooting? Eaves really has no luck, I still remember the Josi shot that put him close to a year. Get well soon Eaves!

It's disrespectful to a man's legacy and to his family to have done that. Ilitch was classless. You don't take a guy's jersey down just because you don't think he was deserving. There's a lot of undeserving players in sports who have had their numbers retired.

It doesn't matter to me either way if Fedorov has his number retired. If he does, good for him, if not, it doesn't bother me. There isn't a timetable on it either. I think Lindsay and Delvecchio didn't have their numbers retired until the 1990's. I guess if I had a criteria, it would be, if you have to ask and you have to debate it, then it's no. With Yzerman and Lidstrom, it wasn't if, it was when. I know other teams have things like a ring of honor or something similar. That might be something for the new arena, a way to honor the very talented, but not quite legendary Red Wings.

I think Valentine's Day is kinda pointless. If you love the person then everyday should be Valentine's Day.

There are a lot of things that we still need "awareness" of, but is breast cancer really one of them? Is there anyone out there who doesn't know what it is? I'm all for raising money to treat and/or prevent it and to help people who are fighting it, but do we really have to be raising awareness? At this point, I'd rather see actual fund-raisers that actually do something about it.

I respectfully disagree. For one, Feds was never a captain, and never would have been. Secondly, Yzerman and Lidstrom were generational legends. Yzerman was Detroit’s boy and Lidstrom has more hardware than Tony Stark. That’s what it takes to get your number retired in Detroit. Fedorov was never that type of player. He’s just not rafter-jersey material for these reasons. I feel like I have to say this: I really really loved Fedorov. He was the “coolest” Red Wing I’ve ever seen. Cooler than Z even, and that’s saying something. When I was in my teens, playing hockey, I wanted to be him. But I see no scenario that ultimately gets his number retired. Just my opinion.

The only criteria for getting your jersey retired is because the owner says it should be retired. I don't know where fans get the idea that there's some sort of standard or litmus test that has to be passed. If Mike (or Chris or Marian or whoever is making the decisions these days) says someone's number will be retired, it will be retired. The Wings and their fans are fortunate to have so many players in recent years to have this discussion about.

Pulk has looked amazing all game long. Guarantee he's up next year.. Mantha and Athanasiou are definitely developing some great chemistry.. The kind of chemistry that we saw with tater, nyquist, sheahan, and jurco all coming up to the wings & tie game!!! Kind of hope I get to see some of new OT format..

Pulkkinen can seriously score from anywhere on the ice. It doesn't look like it should go in, but it finds a way.

Watching the game and was just going to mention this. Hooking penalty wasn't all his fault - he was put in a bad position. He's hard on the puck and uses his frame well.

Athanasiou makes Mantha better. You can tell who drives the play on that line. Athanasiou has been back for like three games, and Mantha got a goal and two assists in that time lol.

I don't know, Quincey has been pretty good this year and D seems like he's in a bit of a sophmore slump.

I don't think their numbers will be. I could see both of them getting the Hall of Fame, but getting your number retired by the Wings is even harder than getting into the Hall. The only other guy that I'd consider putting in the rafters would be Osgood. He's easily top ten all-time at his position and has all the credentials. But even that, I'd admit, is arguable.

Would put us around $62.5 with Nyquist, Jurco, Andersson, Smith, and Franson to re-sign. Depending where the cap winds up, we'd probably be 2-4 mil short. Maybe if we could offload one (or more) of Quincey, Franzen, or Weiss.
