If we had an aging roster....I agree. When you are re-building, standing pat and letting your players develop is not a bad thing.

I seriously checked the date on the OP to see if someone had bumped an old thread. Honestly I don't care much what Holland says, we'll see what he does. But I'm not holding my breath.

Kick tires. Explored market. Prices too high. Too much term. We like our kids. Getting Franzen back is like signing a free agent. Pav returning in November is like making a trade. Any free agent signing has to make sense. It has to be the right fit. We're going with our younger players. We need them to take another step.

I am fine with standing pat this off-season as well. Give the kids the playing time.

I'm still pissed they're going to demolish the arena with the greatest non-corporate name in sports. This new arena looks cool, though, and I understand they want to be on par with other new arenas around the league. I just wish we weren't so keen in this country with demolishing legendary arenas. They don't do s*** like that in Europe.

    Datsyuk Has Ankle Surgery

And i only see glendenning moving from c if he's moved up to a scoring line, which shouldn't happen now that babs is gone. But Ferraro will most likely be in over andersson.

Everyone knew.I'm willing to bet at least a quarter of your posts this past season had his name in them. I believe he went undrafted this time.

Beleskey turned down 4m/yr from Anaheim, I wouldn't sign him for 3. Why are you so angry? And the only "excuse" that isn't a good one is the cleary one, and even that ones shaky since no fan knows the extent of his leadership, and he barely played last season anyway, so you're reaching for straws here.

I am tired of this s*** every year nothing gets done and we take an early exit again
  13. 1 point
S**t. How did you find my twitter account?
  14. 1 point
Not surprised one bit, but still disappointing. Standing pat when making first round exits is not okay. All other teams are constantly aiming to improve any way they can. Wings have more prospects than they can keep, why not use some to bring in a quality player? More teams are passing the Wings up because they're willing to take chances and make moves. At least find someone to dump Weiss on. I'd even be happy with that and clearing space.

No surprise, I've been saying this for months. UFA's are over priced anyway, and we have a number of our RFA's to sign. With guys in Grand Rapids ready to make the jump to the NHL, I'd rather see what we have first.
  16. 1 point
This is by far the worst UFA class in a while. Everyone's going to get overpaid. This is a year that most teams should be conservative with signings, but someone will take a chance. I'll be fine if that isn't us. Imagine a Wings team loaded with cheap young talented players a few years down the road, but too hamstrung with Weiss and Green type contracts to make constructive additions and make a cup run.
  17. 1 point
Yes...that's it exactly...Ken Holland doesn't want to win the cup..he's only pretends to.

Stamkos was a big, derfy pylon against us...that little motherf...Johnson killed us. If you can play..you can play. Do I want 6 5-10ish Dmen? No...but I don't want a unit full of 6-4 225lb sloths either. I'll have rom for a smaller slick skater puck moving PP running Dman every day and I won't care if he isn't a poster child for ideal "measurables" Sarvi can skate, he did very well against high end competition in the U18 tournament , he shoots RH and his names is cool...besides..the league doesn't want you to graab guys on the chip and chase..they barely want you to touch them. Hard body checks...other than the big crosscheck in the corner are drawing more penalties and suspensions. That puts a premium on dmen that can turn their feet and keep guys in front of them as they move into the zone..it's almost like defending the baseline in basketball. You can't let that guy get a step and turn the corner. That puts a premium on skating.

LOL at Housley getting in ahead of Makarov and Lindros. The guy was another accumulator who played in a high scoring era. He couldn't play defense worth a lick. Not sure why he'd get in but Andreychuk wouldn't. He's another accumulator.

Hahaha. Is Michael Babcock really going to be there still?!?!? Ha. Anytime I haven't heard from you in a while, if I mention hampus, you're there. Its like a doorbell that only you hear no matter where you are/what you're doing.

I'm not sure that is the real situation. "Okay guys, either we demolish the arena or we have ads on the jerseys to keep the arena standing. What's it gonna be?"
  22. 1 point
Well, I wasn't comparing them across every issue. Of course there's things we do better than them. The ads on European hockey jerseys are even worse. The only point was about arenas. I like the older arenas with history. But there's a lot more, obviously, that goes into it (like politics). I understand why the city of Detroit needs to do this. I'm just lamenting how there's so few buildings left with history. The Nassau coliseum was a dump, but those great Islander teams of the 80's played there. Same thing with Rexall place and the Oilers. At least people went into that building knowing that's where Gretzky and those great Oilers teams played back in the day. I've always wanted to see a game there. The JLA has not been around for 50 or 60 years, but 35 years is as long as you'll see in today's sports world. In a few years, Madison Square Garden will now be the only old building left in the NHL.
  23. 1 point
So if we don't destroy the JLA, we need to put ads on the jersey? I don't see that kind of fallout. And of course I wouldn't want ads on the jersey. But I don't see that as the only alternative.

Re: Trading Howard... Hell no. Unless it makes perfect sense for us. This is a two-goalie league; if you want to win the Cup, a 1a-1b tandem is pretty much a prerequisite (unless you have a perennial Vezina candidate who's durable as hell and consistently excellent). Look at what Darling did for Chicago. Look at what Vasilevskiy did for Tampa. Look at what Talbot did for New York. Look at what Hammond did for Ottawa. Hell, look at what Ozzie did for us in 2008. Hasek faltered (as designated starters are wont to do), and we needed a starter-caliber replacement. If Ozzie is instead some random backup, do we win the Cup that year? Howard-Mrazek would and will be one of the league's best tandems (if not the best), and it'll cost us a combined cap hit of, like, $7M. It's pretty much an ideal situation. Howard was an All-Star last season (pre-injury, of course) and his "backup" is a prodigious stud. They'll push each other, bring out the best in each other. It'll be great. For the first time in foreverrrrrr, I'm not the least bit concerned about the talent in net.
