For the record, I wasn't saying that was my opinion. The statement made was that the poster was surprised some people were negative to him being on the roster, and I gave what I believe is the reason for some of the negativity. My personal opinion is somewhere in the middle. I think Holland is one of the best ever in developing young talent, and as frustrating as it is to some that he loves to "let them develop", nobody can deny his track record. Sometimes a guy comes in who doesn't need to develop in the minors, and if Larkin is one of those guys I am absolutely thrilled.

Lucic is a moron, and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the Wings - even as a janitor on JLA.

What player would Janmark replace this year? Nobody. So he'd go back to Sweden. Who would he replace next year? Mantha? AA? Bertuzzi? Nope. Back to Sweden, probably for good. He wasn't a top prospect. He was a middling prospect and made a team with a weaker forward group than the Wings. He had virtullay no chance of ever being a Red Wing, better to get a gut like Cole than nothing at all.

Just heard they sent Kassian to rehab. I thought he was already a hab

Economically it makes sense. Reward the elite and exploit the poor. Let the middle class players burn. And the world turns.

Surprised there's so many against him playing for the Wings. He most likely gets sent down when Helm/Datsyuk return, so I don't see why playing top line minutes with Zetterberg would hurt his development in any way whatsoever. If he shows he's not ready, he'll get sent down knowing exactly which areas he needs to improve in. And if he does well, then that's great.

    Datsyuk update

I'm not sure where to put this, but he just tweeted 10 min ago: Pavel Datsyuk @Datsyuk13 Great News! Had a good doctor visit. Recovery from the ankle surgery is on schedule. See you soon back in Detroit. Good News for #13

The Detroit will miss crowd is out and loud and it's hilarious. This is probably the best we've been in at least 4 years. I like being the dark horse.

Dylan Larkin on opening night roster

This. He's a baby that plays/acts like a 35 year old. And he's got the talent to back it up. Future C in the making.

Good for Howard. You'd have to be insane to root against him this year. Even if you think Mrazek is the future, the better Howard plays, the more valuable he'll be when we end up trading him. Best case scenario is to go through this season with both goalies to be pushing each other. Mrazek learns, Howard increases his value, Wings win more games.

If Larkin makes this team better, he'll stay regardless. They didn't keep him on the roster just because there was room for him. They kept him because they believe he is ready for the NHL now. If he excels, he keeps his roster spot. It's someone else that will be moved elsewhere IMO. If the intention isn't to give him a legit shot at sticking with the team full time, he'd be playing on the top line with GR tomorrow night. Only way he gets sent down is if he struggles. And I think it is fantastic. Comparing him to Jurco really isn't fair. Two very different situations. As for being bumped into the NHL over other guys, he is simply the most ready. Hockey isn't about tenure, it is about icing the best team you can. Every season a small few 18 and 19 year old kids break into the league. It is about time we have one that is good enough at that age. He already shown he can hang with NHL calibre talent. I see no reason why he can't learn his stuff with the Wings instead of GR. You save that for the kids who need to develop their game.

I honestly think that most of the people that would rather have him in GR are so because they really want to see what Jurco and Pulkkinen can do, and he is taking one of their spots. Other than that I am sure most are excited to see him take this extended audition and run with it!

Dylan Larkin on opening night roster

Being thrust into a role like he is being put into can be a tough thing for an 18 year old kid. If he comes in and cant handle it, it could hurt his confidence. I hope that doesn't happen, and personally I don't think it will, but it could. Nobody wants to see Larkin turn into a Daige, Stefan, DiPietro etc. That's why some people are against it.

PVD, we usually agree on most things Red Wings, so let's just agree to disagree on this one. I think he should have started the season down in Grand Rapids, and proven himself down there first. That's not saying I'm not excited as hell to see what he can do with the Wings Friday night. And now that he's up, I hope he never looks back, plays 82 games and scores 100 points, on his way to the Calder Trophy this season...

Leafs got scored on with the first shot by Montreal. Bad goal by Bernier, my friend texts me "Pull Bernier now!". Babs is in for a long 8 years.

I like this move for it's reflection on Blashill. In the article with mlive he says something like: "we thought, I especially thought that he makes us that much better..." He wanted to make it known that he pushed for this. Many 1st time coaches, I'd imagine, might defer to experienced management (though we don't know if others' opinions were different) or err on the safe side afraid of criticism or just unsure of their footing. It bodes well for the hope that we have a guy confident in his approach and vision for the team and won't just go along with previous norm. I'm sure I won't agree with all his moves (Pulkkinen over Jurco? I Would even put Jurco on the 4th rather than have him sit. Don't like Nyquist with Tatar.) but it's good to see that he looks to be a strong leader.

Dylan Larkin on opening night roster

Evertone's favourite bald NBC hockey analyst just had this to say about Larkin http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/10/red_wings_dylan_larkin_among_e.html

Just because Janmark made the Stars line-up (bottom six forward which the Wings have no room for and probably won't until 2025) doesn't mean Holland could have traded him for Jeff Petry or some other top 4 guy. We're talking about a player that was passed over in two drafts and then taken by the Wings and……wait……wait…..JIM NILL. In fact Nill was probably the only GM that would take Janmark in a deal. Good for Janmark for making the team, that's on him for working his ballz off. I blame Holland for making that deal about as much as I'd blame him for putting Nestrasil on waivers, which is to say not very friggin much. Also: how goddamn predictable was this thread?

If Larkin is an impact top 6 player that makes our team better then he is staying with the team. All hype aside it would be stupid for his development and for the wings as a team to be worse off just because he's 19 years old. If he's ready now, I highly doubt he'll ever reach a point in the next 3 years where the wings are kicking themselves thinking "I wish we never burned one of his entry years, I wish I could send him down to the minors now". If he's ready, he's ready. Sending him to dominate the AHL isn't going to make him even more readier. He needs to play against the best of the best. Having said that, he would have to look very very good for him to stick with the team, but writing him off regardless of his performance we have yet to see makes no sense
