Stop and think back for a moment guys, think back over at least the last 10-15 years. Outside of the 01-02 season (which was marred at the beginning by the 9/11 attacks that took some of the "fun" out of the season openener,) When was the last time you have been more excited and giddy or even seen so much interest and hype for the opening night of a Red Wings season? We've had coaching changes, we've had rookies debut, we've had UFA's making their debut, but just reflect on all that is going on today, and that is exactly it, ALL OF THAT is going on right now! Today! Not only a new coach, but outside of Granato, a new coaching staff and philosophy, not only is a rookie debuting, but a 19 year old local kid who just got drafted 16 months ago, PLUS the rest of our young players like Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Pulkkinen! We're excited for a new life for Smith and Kindl, Howard has regained his pre-injury play, Mrazek is here to stay, no longer do we have an average back-up that may see some spot play once in a while.we, once again, have a legit 1a and 1aa goalie tandem. We have the UFA right handed offensive d-man that Holland has coveted for years and years. We have no less than 8 kids in GR (if not more) who can be called up and step right into the NHL if needed and contribute. We FINALLY have a team where the best players will play and not lose out to the veteran just because of seniority. There is a lot of buzz in Hockeytown this season opener, take a big inhale of it and breathe it all in, this, my friends, is the beginning of our new generation of a Red Wings super team. We witnessed Yzerman, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Kozlov, etc... all grow together as a team and it seems we have a core today that if kept together, can stay together (just like our 90's team) for a long, long time. This area has not been this excited in forever... Take it all in my friends! Let's Go Wings!

Ya Baby! It's here! It's a new world, it's a new outlook, it's a new era, it's time! In the last 16 months, Dylan Larkin has gone from High School/USHL to Michigan to Worlds to Grand Rapids to Detroit...What a rise to the apex of what his father first dreamed about when Dylan learned how to skate! Haven't we all dreamed of this with our son's, it must be indescribable to feeling right now! Remember when you first tied his skates? Remember him skating with the help of a chair? My oh my, let the tears flow, you have earned it! Congrats to the Larkin Family!

Is it possible that the kid could be good AND still be no big loss to the organization?

Did anybody else notice that Toronto's new acquisition Grabner is a healthy scratch? I guess Babs has found his new Weiss.

    monthly schedule wallpaper?

This IS coming this month. I've been feverishly working on it this week (sorry, I've been really busy! Too many friends getting married this month!) -- I plan on having it available for download prior to the season opener tomorrow night. I'll release it in a few different resolutions, then lean on you guys a bit for some resolution requests. Just so you know: The native size of the wallpaper is 2560x1440 -- it'll be plenty big to start!

Its things like this which just make me respect guys like Datsyuk and Lidstrom so much more. They were always willing to take less so their teammates could get more and so they could be on a winning team. I have never understood why certain people/posters push for top stars to break the bank, there is only so much money to go around and while the top guys do deserve to get paid the most, there is a difference between being fair and being greedy.

Janmark nylen makes the Dallas roster

Wrong trade. Eaves was in the Legwand deal. Have to wait for Jarnkrok to score for that joke.

ITS ALL KIND OF LOSS, WE LOST HIM FOR PEANUTS, PEANUTS!!!!PANNNNIIIICCCCCCC! PANICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC! PANIC! BTW, I'm not making fun of anyone, it was the hayrides tonight, and me and my Buddy were driving some tractors. Needless to say we got drunk afterwards and make fun of the kids who fell off the sleds. Don't judge me, its a lot funnier in real time

Economically it makes sense. Reward the elite and exploit the poor. Let the middle class players burn. And the world turns.

Well said. I listened to the Puck Podcast recently and they pointed out that of our 08 Cup winning team only Zetterberg, Kronner, Datsyuk and Franzen are still on the team. We witness a new generation taking over. And with Babcock gone and Larkin, Pulkkinen, Tatat, Mrazek and Nyquist on the roster it starts tonight. It's a great time to be a Red Wings Fan. Can't wait for for the season to start.

If he sticks with the team this season and plays as well as we all expect him to, is there any question whether or not he will be the next captain of the Detroit Red Wings?... I don't think so. After Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Kronwall have all retired, it is a real possibility that we could see Larkin, Abdelkader and DeKeyser (three Michigan natives) as the captain and alternate captains... Pretty cool stuff.

    Goalie Battle

The Detroit will miss crowd is out and loud and it's hilarious. This is probably the best we've been in at least 4 years. I like being the dark horse.

I think with Larkin it's not only his play style but also his maturity that's impressing the management. A good attitude and leadership goes a long way. For a teenager he is very very mature. They probably feel he can handle the pressure.
