i like the shake up, but I'd make a few changes: That second line looks weak. Blash is probably doing it because they scored a clutch goal together early on (1st Canes game, I think). Switching Pulkkinen and Helm makes the balence better. Would like Andy out, Glen on 4th, Jurco on 3rd, but I kind of understand the move. Glen's been his usual hard-working self so this is rewarding him and getting him some more ice time. Blash did talk about being less even with playing time so I'm fine with the set-up if that 4th line only plays limited minutes. Defence pairs I'm fine with. I liked the DK-Green pair and I think with more time together they'd be really good, but the switch is all to get E off the 1st pair and I think that's a good thing. He'll probably look pretty good on the 3rd pair and against lower competition. I think Kindl would be a better match for him in terms of styles, but hopefully Smith is out out to prove something tonight. Too bad for Richards. Maybe the back troubles explain his struggles so far and he comes back as a solid addition. I prefer Sheahan in the 3C spot anyway.

Lines don't mean s***, if the players don't show up. All individual players need to play better, if we stand any chance of winning.

You mean the Blue Jays are playing game 6.

Uh, scratch Andersson, put Glendening back and bring Jurco in. Why is Jurco not getting a shot here? Edit: To clarify, I am extremely happy about the shake up. I mostly like the look of those lines.

Too early to compare him with Hitler. Besides, I don't agree that he has an upgraded, healthy team. His best player hasn't played a game this season. If Babcock leading this team into mediocrity was great coaching and maximizing the talent, then you know what that means? It means we weren't that talented and needed to improve. That's the main thing that needs addressing. Making the playoffs and losing in the first round every year kind of sucks anyway.

I actually agree with a few others that we need one more big bodied, digger. Either that or we need Jurco to step up in a hurry. I've said before that I don't like any line that has two of Tatar, Nyquist, or Pulkkinen on it. You can now add Larkin to that mix as well. I just don't like two small wingers. I don't think we need some superstar power foward or anything. But with Franzen hurt, and Jurco still struggling, we need another Abby for the second line.

The last 15 minutes was positive, something to build off of. They can play good hockey!

    Roster Moves by the Wings

Drew Miller is a fantastic defensive forward and an excellent penalty killer. Our PK being bad has nothing to do with Miller not belonging on this roster and a lot to do with some of the other guys being terrible on the PK. Miller plays a necessary role that I don't want any of the other guys you listed playing because Miller is better at it than they would be. The truth is we take penalties. We then need to kill those penalties. Miller is better at it than most of the guys we got. He fills a role, hence, role player. Not wanting Miller because he's not as good overall as some of those other guys is like not wanting a kicker on a football team because he's not as good if an athlete as some wide reciever. It's stupid.

Now that's stirring the pot. Ericsson does belong on the 3rd pairing from what he's shown this season and preseason. And some of the vets could use a little shakeup to get some sense of urgency. However I'm weary of letting Larkin center a line, there's just so much to handle at this level there, doubt he'll handle it all and it could lead to a direct loss because of it. But let's give it a try and let's see what happens. One try, if it doesn't pan out, he's back on the wings in my opinion. Too much at stake. Don't take it as I'm knocking at the kid, I just bought his jersey for typing out loud. DeKayser and Quincey have shown that they work well last season. Not much offense though. Shutdown pairing. Looking forward to watching how our wheel is holding up tonight.

Agreed. But signing 5 defensemen to 4-5 mil each pretty much means you gotta play those 5. Ericsson is not gonna sit, unfortunately. He could use a week off to get his shyte together.

Could Brad Richards actually be scratched?

I've watched him a lot. And it pains me to have these discussions with you because it always seems like I'm anti-Athanasiou. Which couldn't be further from the truth. Prior to this season I actually had him higher than Larkin in my evaluation of the prospects (clearly I was wrong lol). I really, really, like AA's game. But as I've said, I think that kid has top six center potential. And I want to see the team be very careful in developing him toward that goal. I don't want to see his development derailed by putting him in a position he has no long term future playing. He needs to be "the guy" on a team, an everyday scoring threat. Not a complementary player. If we need a banger, crasher, type, we can get one. I'd look to teams that started badly and see what's to be had. We've got tradeable assets, valuable ones. Lets see what we can do with them. I'd be looking to exploit Columbus right now if I were Ken Holland. Boone Jenner is the kind of guy that would help us, and I'm sure they'd be amenable to the right offer given their defensive needs.

Well I think we should get the PP sorted let alone the pk, it's been good dam awful. We now have two legit rh shooters from the point in green and pulks yet Blash didnt use a left and right combo on the pp versus the Oil. Lets get the pp units set and stick at it.

Smith and Kindl both stink. Ouellet-Quincey would be a great third pair.

I agree. I always use stubhub to buy wings tickets, however the tickets I bought today for $450 are going for $900 on stubhub and that's not even with the alumni game.

    Datsyuk update

I'm looking forward to Pav's return and he's still a top notch player. However if the Wings have to relay on a 37 year old to save their season, they are in a load of trouble. As great as Pav still is, this team will only go as far as the younger Wings will take them.

    The person below me game...

Nope. No ties here. I only buy shootouts. (haven't really bought a tie anyway) The person below me has been camping lately.

Sweat all season long if you want. 76 games is a long time. I'm not ready to throw my hands up in exasperation after 6 games. Particularly when we've been here before, and we've got a better team now. We'll be fine.

That's just deliberately over the top hysterics. We beat Tampa in a game where we were physical, won the turnover battle, and kept the shots just about even. Tampa. The consensus Cup favorites. With the exception of the first period at Carolina, all of our wins were earned with solid, consistent hockey. And even in the losses there have been plenty of positives to draw from. Don't disparage the team just because you've become too emotionally attached.
