@Slapshotg0al: Johan Franzen illustrates his thoughts on the refs in today's Wings Stars game. I happen to agree with him. https://t.co/wdk49IoxNm

I'm not mad at spezza for the knee on Howard. He clearly didn't mean it, and tried to avoid it by lifting his leg, but it ended up making it worse. Things like this happen, hockey is a really physical game, whatever. But the refs not blowing the whistle after it isn't acceptable, or in any way defendable. I'm upset with the way things went with hemskys hit, but I'm glad e hit him in the face a few times. Whether or not people agree, people don't take liberties when he's on the ice without paying for it somehow. And when he backs off its smart because we end up with a pp out of it. I wish he played physical every game, but he truly doesn't deserve the flak that he gets around here.

    Athanasiou recalled by Red Wings

When you say things like this, it makes you sound 12 years old. If you don't agree with people that's fine, but act mature about it. Again, the reason why people (myself included) don't want to see AA on the 4th line in a permanent role is because people don't want to see him regress in his development. The perfect example of this is Jurco. In retrospect, he should have played in the AHL last year on the top line, as coming here and playing in a chequing role with the Wings hurt his development. I know he got his chances on the third line, but when that didnt work he was sent down to the 4th. In a video game, putting your most talented offensive players in works. In real life there are many more variables involved.

it was, IMO, his best game since coming back. And when they play like that against the top line in the league, its definitely not a demotion in the normal sense of that. But if our line up was where it should be with the talent we have, helm would be destroying the talent like that normally. So this is good. Blashill sees what he has. Holland realizes(slowly) that Todd nelson isn't good. (Aside from the fact that Sproul has had a resurgence. So boom. Todd nelson, associate coach)

Or the refs should start looking out not to be checked into the boards...

AA Larkin Helm BOOM fastest line in NHL

I thought that AA played great too, but I think the Helm-Glen-Miller line wasn't really a demotion . They were matched against Stars top line and played respectable minutes. AA only played a team-low 9:36 (but made a lot of it) and Pulk and Andy only played a bit more because of special teams. I thought that Helm had his 2nd good game since coming back. I would have prefered him with AA on that 3rd line

Ha.I honestly don't like the Colorado ones, and the Detroit ones would be worse if I wasnt obviously bias. But the Montreal ones. That gorgeous chest stripe is what gets me. Bringing that same pattern to the sleeves ties it in super well and the old school off white is beautiful with them. The wings 2013 winter classic jerseys are beautiful. These ones.. These ones. I just keep seeing the turtle.

if this fuching league want to take on head shot, they better start punishing their own fuching referees.

Was he even on the 4th line? From what I saw Glendening, Helm and Miller were together.

Why do players continue to make these hits, if you see numbers don't hit the guy. The league needs a zero tolerance policy on these types of hits. He also launched into an already dirty hit.

I think this team has found its legs. These losses feel much better then they did a couple weeks ago. Once we we get some guys back and hopefully stay healthy we win a game like this

Spezza hitting Howard was incidental, You can clearly see him lifting his knee, instead of laying weight on it to deliver a more critical hit...I would like to think. Hemsky's hit on Ericsson deserves an a** whopping and was clearly a 4 minute penalty (or double minor, I guess is the right term). I don't know what it takes for Ericsson to get physical and kick some a**

Yeah I'd just give up on Pulkinnen. He may have some NHL potential around the league but I don't see what we could gain from a small one dimensional player. It's exactly what we have too many of that are much better.

It was Hemsky that leaped into him. Probably will be suspended, but still doesn't help. That's ok, we can hang with this team, they ain't so bad ass.

Oh what could've been if only they would've called the 5 minute boarding call. Ref's should be fined in those cases, although it won't help in the standings...

I don't get all this love for Jurco on these forums. 3 goals last season. 11 over his entire NHL career, spanning over 100 games now. He's had plenty of opportunities all throughout the lineup with just about everyone on the team, and has regularly been outperformed by his peers regardless of where the coaches put him. Babcock scratched him because of his general ineffectiveness, and Blashill (who was supposed to give him a fair shot based on their relationship in GR) has only been willing to play him 4 games this season. Jurco may be young and have his whole career left, but that doesn't mean anything if he's unable to get his career started.

If he's going to continue getting 9 minutes a night here in Detroit, I'd rather him be getting big minutes in grand rapids. Its better for his development. Look what happened to Jurco.

That's Dave Strader ... he's always had my respect (maybe from the years I listened to him as a Wings announcer).

Pulks is Sammy2.0 all he brings is a hard shot and doesn't do that very well either.

I've been using the Bowflex since Labor Day pretty faithfully (2 days on, one day off for recovery). It still works well for me. I started with 80 lbs resistance per side, now I'm up to 135 lbs resistance per side (so the pull down bar or double arm exercises are 270 lbs resistance). My weight has remained static, but I've lost an inch off my waist and my chest and arms are noticeably showing more muscle mass and definition. If anyone has suggestions for shredding the abs, let me know (I do ab raises with straps on my pull-up bar). Planks come to mind, but I'm not a big fan of them. What are you looking to accomplish with your workout, Nerve Damage? You mentioned surgery, so whatever you've had would likely affect what you are able to do, maybe Dumbbells or resistance bands would work for you. Men's Health magazine is a good source for workout ideas, they should have some things on their website as well.

I don't think Cherry has had anything good to say for 15 years. During the Baseball playoffs he was saying there was a conspiracy against the Blue Jays because they're a Canadian team. I'm sure the ratings for the World Series would have been higher if the Blue Jays made it instead of the Royals. The Jays were the most exciting team in Baseball! There's no wonder why the Canadians in the NHL are a bunch of crybabies and head hunters, and Canadian sports fans are always complaining. They grew up listening to this idiot. And I say that as a Canadian.

    All purpose Mike Babcock thread

too funny! Just replace that goalie with our former coach... "I put him on the 4th line...couldn't stop him! Called Scotty Bowman, couldn't stop him! Traded him to Columbus...couldn't stop him! Now he's in the HOF still banging hot blondes and I'M STUCK IN TORONTO!!!"
