One last picture I want to share from Friday. I walked quick so I could catch up to get them in frame. I'm trying to capture the spirit of the the thing

Statistically speaking Howard has been the better goalie than Mrazek in the last 10 games played by the team. I think he's faced more shots and his SV% and GAA has been better. (I'm not positive on this but this is what I last saw). So as much as I want to bully his flop attempt of a save... I really can't. Plus if I did, I would sound like any other blind hater around here who probably didn't watch 90% of the game and just showed up to bash the one goal that got in (which was because we had zero defense) out of the 38 shots faced. If Howard legitimately sucked this year, I'd be going ham on him just like I do with Smith. But he doesn't suck this year. He's doing well. And Smith is doing fine too - hence you don't hear me complaining anymore. And yeah I agree, Jimmy needs to stand tall on breakaways and shootouts. His problem is that he goes down too early. When a goalie does down, that puck is going top shelf. Guaranteed. That's exactly what happened with the OT goal. This is exactly what I like better about Mrazek. He just reads the shooters much better than Jimmy does. He doesn't fall for the deke as easily. He's just a damn smart goalie. He's not even at his full potential yet, that's the awesome part. Right now, after a third of the season, I'd say he's on par with Jimmy. Which is why this whole tandem thing has been a positive thing. In a year or two, Mrazek could very well be at the level of Price, Lunqvuist, Quick. Time will tell.

http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/penguins-fire-mike-johnston-sullivan-takes-35732759 I knew it would eventually happen if Crosby kept struggling, but didn't think it would happen so soon. Also, there were talks about a major disagreement with Rutherford over Johnstons handling of sprong, which I'm assuming was a big part of the decision. I hope Sullivan keeps the team spinning the wheels, watching them be so mediocre made me happy.

I just watched that OT goal again. Howard looked so lost. It seemed like he made up his mind that he was getting scored on before it happened. Instead of flopping on the ice and making it easy, come out and challenge, poke check..something. Yeah Hasek made tons of saves like that, but that was his style and it did'nt look out of place and won him countless awards. Howard simply looked ridiculous and lazy. And rattled.

Except that is Jack WHITE from the White Stripes. Jack Black also looks strange, tho, so we will just let it slide!!

@kickazz I want to bash on smith. I want to bash on kindl. But they've been perfectly good 3rd pairing d men this season. The only thing is, I think marchenko defense is the reason why we don't notice as much of their mistakes. I think Marchy is a future top four d man in the mold of oduya, or hjalmarsson from Chicago...not too many points, but a damn rock defensively and in transition. I almost want them to waive one of smith/kindl just to call up sproul, pair him with e(who I think is pretty comparable to marchenko, just bigger and more physical) and tell him to score. Then put Dekeyser with Marchenko on the 3rd pair, and tell him to be a selke caliber 4th forward. Ha. Slightly off topic, but still. And I can't remember for sure, but I think it was McKenzie, said Mrazek could become as good as Carey price is for Montreal. The kids ceiling is that high, for sure, and I pray he becomes that and we still have a decently well rounded team. As for the sv% and gaa, I was going to post a stat about Mrazeks last 3 games, compared to Howards last 5, but I figured I'd wait until the sample size was a bit larger before I posted it... But I think you're correct. Howards just not as good 1on1, but he's still a really damn solid goalie.

If Howard would have made that save with his glove behind his back, it would've been a candidate for save of the year. But he missed completely, so it just looks hilarious. I think on breakaways/shootouts, instead of stopping around the hash marks before backing in, Howard should just keep skating out to meet the player at around the top of the circles, and attempt to Kronwall them. It'll surprise at least 25% of them, which should raise his save% in those situations.rawfulmayo he'll connect with at least 5%, another 5% for broken sticks, falling skaters, & whiffed shots. The "you got Howar'd©®" chants will be sweet too. But for real. I don't understand why we keep blowing leads in the last few minutes of the game, but I wish that would stop. Still ecstatic with the points streak though. Whether or not they seem in sync most of the game, they're starting to click more and more. And when they do, our offense is lethal. Also need to work on the forward trailing behind dropping back to cover for the d man in on the rush, but its getting better.

Meh not really. Hasek looked like a fish outta the water (all the damn time) and he won two Hart Trophy and like 6 Vezina's. Saying Howard looked like that is like a compliment seeing as though that was Hasek's trademark save making move. Those moves have been made by goalies like thousands of times in this league. And when they make saves with them, they end up being a "highlight reel" With Jimmy it just didn't end up being a save (unfortunately for him). Don't get me wrong - Jimmy has had a lot of face palm moments (like the patented behind the net giveaway to get scored on by Calgary, etc). But dude was going to get scored on regardless. He knew it too. That was way too good of a breakaway.

Guys, its OK to say Howard looked like a fish outta water (literally) AND that he played well the rest of the game. Some of you guys act like he's your kid getting bullied at school

What is it a 13 game point streak. Consistent effort hasn't really been a problem for a while. Back-to-Back, 3 games in 4 days. Wings played great for the first 2 periods than lost gas in the 3rd. Wait, so our 3-on-3 line was Smith-Tat-Nyquist? To me that is a mistake. They're all prone to giveaways and not the best defensively. You're right that "Smith is a great skater. Nyquist and Tatar are great shooters." but it's just the combo of all 3 that's bad. Especially when Devils were playing such good man-on-man coverage in OT. Good game. Howard deserved the win. Jurco had a few good shifts that I noticed, which is encouraging. We're 3 points behind Montreal for top in the east!

He sure knows a thing or two about scoring on people who try to deny him HA CHA CHA

Oh well, you win some and you lose some. Would have been nice if they could have kept the 2-0 lead to get the W but 3 points out of 4 in 2 back to back is fine.

Hey, as long as Athaniseeyouthroughmyeyebrows can put the puck in the net, he can wear his facial hair any way he likes it. Also, as a woman, I can tell you that plucking hurts and he would have a lot to pluck. I don't blame him for leaving them bushy, but since they're perfectly evenly shaped, I'm guessing he does some sculpting.

Maltby was also a 50 goal scorer in Junior. Ericsson isn't known as a great fighter in the NHL. Tootoo can hold his own, wasn't given a fair shot in Detroit, and would be welcomed depth to a roster lacking some physicality. Also, you think knowing someone will come after you doesn't deter players from taking cheap shots? Yeah, it still happens, of course. But having a guy who can stand with just about anyone in the league makes you think twice.

Cheap applause that way. My gigs are in baby Pens and Baby Sens territory but I still rep the Wings fairly often. And my humblest thanks for the mention earlier in the thread.

Jack black looks like a live action version of a Tim Burton character. I second removing Chad Kroeger (aka spaghetti-mop, although i think his hair looks more like ramen noodles) from the list of recognized red wings fans.

The guitarist and pianist for Chiodos, and one of the drummers for the sound of animals fighting are/were red wings fans. Also the bassist in the blood brothers wore a red wings jersey at a show at the magic stick a few years back. And come on kickazz. Hanks wife doesn't count, but the eye candy never hurts. Also, calling anyone from nickelback a "musician" is being very liberal with the word.

Still hate how things turned out for him in Detroit. It's like Kenny tried to address a big need, but Babcock did'nt want it. Did they even talk at all before he was signed? So pointless and a s***ty way to treat a guy. Sign him then send him to the minors and buy him out.
