I believe a lot of teams did a tribute to Mr. I. That's why hockey is the best team sport ever for me. -

Quote from Steve Yzerman: "Both Mr. and Mrs. Ilitch, as well as their entire family, have had an immeasurable impact on not only my career, but my life," Yzerman said in a statement. "Going back to the age of 18 when I arrived in Detroit, the guidance, generosity, concern and love Mr, Ilitch had always shown me and my family are things I will forever be grateful for. “I was extremely fortunate to have played my entire career for a man who's love of hockey and burning desire to win were the catalysts which drove the Detroit Red Wings to four Stanley Cup Championships after purchasing the team in 1982. “Mr. Ilitch has left an incredible legacy in baseball, hockey and Metropolitan Detroit. He will forever be remembered for all the ways he enriched our lives. Mike Ilitch will live on vividly in my mind and heart forever.” -

If you want to keep him, trade him and then re-sign him in the offseason after the expansion draft. -

Push For The Playoffs
krsmith17 and one other reacted to kliq for a post in a topic
I think you need to look up the definition of the word literally. Also, an 8-2 run likely would put us in the playoffs or damn close. As it stands right now we are 8 points out with 2 less games played then Boston. We win those two games and we are 4 out, add in an 8-2 run, and we are likely in. Do I think that's going to happen, of course not, but I don't believe in hyperbole so you will never see me saying 0% chance. Anyone who says ZERO percent chance is basing their opinion on emotion and is likely just pissed off. -

Push For The Playoffs
krsmith17 and one other reacted to kliq for a post in a topic
Saying this teams has "NO CHANCE" at making the playoffs, is just as silly as saying "ITS HAPPENING!". Probability is definitely against the Wings, and personally I think they are not going to make it, but mathematically speaking it can happen. This is not the "optimist", in me, this is just looking at the situation and taking all emotion out, I think the same thing about every single team in the East. Parity in the NHL is crazy now a days, just look at our games, pretty much every game we play is a 1 goal game. If we were as bad as some poster think, we would be blown out every game. Long story short, any team in the east (especially our division) goes on a 8-2 10 game run, and they are right back in it. -

It's not too late to rename the arena to The Ilitch Centre of Entertainment Arena. The ICE Arena.... -

Keeping Vanek is worthless. At best he'd help win 5 or 6 more games next year. Or he could get a 3 year deal and go back to being the player the Wild bought out. Trade him and get assets that will help you down the road when they have a shot at beings contenders again. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -

1 pointGM Steve Yzerman: 2010-11 Conference Finals (Lost 3-4 to Boston) 2011-12 Missed Playoffs 2012-13 Missed Playoffs 2013-14 Lost in 1st Round 2014-15 Stanley Cup Finals (lost 2-4 to Chicago) 2015-16 Conference Finals (lost 3-4 Pittsburgh) GM Ken Holland: 2010-11 Conference Semi-Finals (Lost 3-4 to San Jose)* 2011-12 Lost in 1st Round (1-4 to Nashville) 2012-13 Conference Semi-Finals (Lost 3-4 to Chicago)* 2013-14 Lost in 1st Round (1-4 to Boston)* 2014-15 Lost in 1st Round (3-4 to Tampa Bay)* 2015-16 Lost in 1st Round (1-4 to Tampa Bay) *Coached by arguably one of the best coaches in the league, Mike Babcock If you look at young talent joining the Lightning compared to the Wings, plus more aggressive trades along with keeping his talented core, Yzerman is pretty darn good. Kenny isn't the worst, but overpaying our guys coupled with some bad FA's and very weak trades gives Stevie the edge since he began his GM career.

Goodbye Ken Holland?

BOTH He and Holland's contracts have one more season. -
1 pointSure would be nice to have a defenseman with an awesome slapshot for these late game offensive zone faceoffs. But where would we find a guy like that?
-
1 pointWow.. This week / month has been rough. Mike Ilitch passing away. Along with my own personal loses. I wish he could of at least of had the chance to see his new Arena finished. Rest in peace, Mr.Ilitch.

1 pointLets just say for conversation sake Holland had nothing to do with 98 and 02, what is your reason to discredit him for 2008? At the end of the day Yzerman has not won a cup, I dont see how you can say he is clearly the better GM. I do think that Yzerman has made better moves in that past few years and appears to understand the cap better then Holland and yes, in 2018 if I had to choose I would choose Yzerman, but you are making it sound like Yzerman has had a better career as a GM then Holland which is a joke.

The biggest roadblock is the idiot coach and the lack of an adequate PP. -
1 pointI have tickets to the Wings/Blues game on Wednesday, and I just realized that it is their next home game. I'm sure they will do some type of tribute for him, he definitely deserves it.

In 2014 he signed a 4 year extension. So assuming in 2010 he also signed a 4 year deal, then 2018 he becomes available which I'm pretty sure is the same year Holland's contract as GM is done. https://www.nhl.com/lightning/news/lightning-sign-vp-and-general-manager-steve-yzerman-to-four-year-contract-extension/c-713290 -

krsmith17 reacted to TheDetroitRedWings for a post in a topic
As much as I'd like to see us finally part ways with Kenny, I'm only on board if there's a suitable replacement with experience to replace him. I'd rather us just hold onto Kenny until Yzerman becomes available. Would be a dream come true to have Stevie Yzerman back home where he belongs. Anyone know off the top of their heads how many more years Yzerman has left on his Lightning contract? -
