There's no guarantee Shattenkirk would sign with us after the trade though, and then we lose a lot of quality assets for what? A month of Shattenkirk? No thanks. And really, why would this years top free agent want to sign with a rebuilding team? I think regardless where he is traded at the deadline he will test free agency this summer, which is exactly why teams are so reluctant to pay such a high price for a rental.

My take: Clearly Chicago saw something in Jurco, enough to warrant a 3rd round pick. They might be right, most of us know he has skills, it just hasn't translated to our team. Who the hell knows if he'll bloom there. Only time will tell. As for us, a 3rd is a solid return on Jurco given what he's done here. In my opinion it is way better than I would have expected, I'll take it any day and let our scouts try to get something this summer. In summary, I don't care if Chicago made a steal. He didn't bloom here and this is not something I'll hold against the organization even if he was to shape up with the Hawks, rather, good job from Ken Holland.

Jarnkrok? Really? What about that scrub Eaves we traded? I think Chicago overpaid for Jurco, considering his production here, BUT, he was never really given the chance to prove he was an offensive player. HE may have had a few shifts in the top 6, but nowhere near as much as Helm, SHeahan, Abby or Glenny. All who of which haven't produced there consistently. Glad to see they are in the bottom 6 now, but honestly, I think if Jurco was given the chance on a consistent basis to be in the top 6, he would've have earned a spot here and we may be talking about someone else being dealt. Can't change it now, for some reason he just couldn't get out of the dog house. I hope we don't regret it, but hey, at least we got a nice return. What if Chicago is the first team eliminated? Mid round pick then...

What opportunity? You could count the times, where he was used the way he should be (2nd or 3rd line) for 5 or more games in a row, on one hand... You want talent to develop? Put it in the right situation, enable it to grow, have a little patience with it. Jurco was mostly on the 4th line trying to do checking with guys like Luke and Drew....lol...

I think it's a lot more likely that Jurco turns it around in Chicago, than anything in the 85-90 range becoming an impact NHLer. Jurco never did get a legit shot here and he likely never would, so I guess in that sense it's a good trade. I just wish as a rebuilding team we would trade off some of the older players, not the 24 year old kid...

If this is the case, then a 1st, HIGH prospect and another element is an over payment in most GM's minds...Look like unless they lower the price significantly, they may lose him for nothing...

You got that backwards...Chicago's 3rd = could equal early 4th if they win the Cup. Could be as early as a mid round 3rd. But not a late 2nd, they are no danger of missing the playoffs. Still a good return...

I don't see Green, Goose or Tatar going anywhere this season. It does appear we selling for the first time, but the Wings have done nothing to indicate that they are tearing it apart, personally I see them selling off UFA's, players that dont want to be here, and maybe a few bad contracts. If we get a top 5 pick, and land a D-man, I see them trying to jump right back in the playoff race next year.

Jurco for a 3rd blows my mind so now thinking Smith could fetch at least a 3rd but I guess his RFA status comes into play. Hawks must be really high on Jurco but it shows Holland valued him as well just coaching and his attitude forced his hand. It shows coaching and Holland don't see eye to eye. The organization saw something in jurco and Holland refused to give up on him until he absolutely had to and got a good return on a guy who couldn't crack the lineup (coaching errors) Im thinking when a new coach comes in from outside the organization and plays the right guys he's gonna blow Wings fans away

Blashill tried to make Jurco into a different player than he is and when it failed he buried him. I think that if Jurco is allowed to playbhos game and gets a little confidence he'll be a decent player. Put Janmark or Jarnkrok on this Wing's team and they're not nearly as predictive. But he gave up a third rounder, so he must believe what he's saying or he wouldn't have made the trade... and quite frankly, I think he's right...

Yes, we have Toronto's 3rd (Babcock signing) and Chicago's 3rd....which sucks only because our 3rd would be a late 2nd basically now, but Holland may have hedged that we'd finish higher than Toronto so he keep the one he may have thought would be higher...but still 2... You mixed this up when checking stats. Jarnkrok currently has 22 pts in 60 game this season compared to Sheahan's 9. Last season, he had 30 pts. compared to Sheahan's 25.

12 games jarnkrok 42 sheahan .... I'd say 30 more games is a big difference , and his 15 pt lead he had more would be a lot smaller if not gone , but hey would do I know lets keep it back on topic , you think jurco is a waste of life , I think he has untapped potential and can turn things around, we'll see soon enough That being said getting a 3rd for a guy we tried forcing into a grinder and wasn't playing is more than I expected .... So good on KH , one of his rare good moves

My bad, I thought YOU were saying "classic case of a fan base over valuing a guy", I didnt realize that was puckbags. The Jurco story is baffling. There has to be more to the story that we just dont know. My gut tells me that both Babs and Blashill had an issue with him, maybe lack of effort in practice? Maybe a poor attitude? I have no idea and this is pure speculation, but it's just odd.

Love Jurco, wish he was given more of an opportunity in Detroit. I think he will prove to be well worth the pick for Chicago.
