    Time for a reset/restore

To me, DK is one of the building blocks. Not a top pairing Dman, but a solid #3 guy and since he's fairly young, he can definitely still be a part of the future. The last 5+ years should be a lesson on how hard it is to find young top 4 Dmen. He's slightly over-payed, but really not by much. If we're making space by dumping bigger contracts it should be older players than won't be part of that future like Howard, Ericsson, Kronwall (LTIR probably at some point), Nielson?, and maybe one of Abby or Helm (Helm can be traded due to the clause in his NTC - I know others can't) I know that those guys probably wouldn't bring a 1st like you were thinking with DK. But there's really need to hurt the team for another 1st rounder, especially when everyone says this is a draft without a whole lot of 1st round elite talent. I don't think that we're suddenly going to be a contender next year and I think we'll get more than one shot at the high draft picks. There'll be other ways to get some extra picks (Green deadline trade next year? Howard trade at some point? Some were interested in Sheahan apparently)

Easily the most interesting thing to happen in this game so far. A puck comes off an Ave's stick and strikes a fan after going through a camera hole in the glass! https://streamable.com/xdbiw

And Holland can't get anyone better, so they're stuck playing as the top pair. Dumping Either of them without bringing in a better player isn't going to help, unless your goal is to be a cellar dweller next year.

150 posts for a Sheahan goal

Aaaaaaaaaalright I don't post all that much... And those of you who review my posts probably noticed they're not groundbreaking but here goes! I'm currently with my bro driving from Montreal to Detroit to catch tomorrow's game against Colorado. there's no doubt of the people's annoyment with Sheahan's undesirable record, which grows with every shot he takes. So I'm calling on the real peeps here to send some positive vibes to get him to open the proverbial floodgates and get a goal tomorrow. Who knows he might go on a tear and pot 5-10 goals by season's end? Based on how the # of posts in GDT's has drastically dropped, I thought 150 posts is a lot but realistic

I agree with you in theory, but practically speaking this team has struggled big time in acquiring/developing top 4 d-men. I would hate to trade the one we have that is still young enough to improve and be here when we contend again. 5mil in a few years for a #4 d-man will not be that bad. Now if we can swap him for a better D-man, do it.

I hope he doesnt score and trains his ass off in the offseason and becomes a powerforward.

Because he's a decent player, would get us a high draft pick, and costs too much. He's exactly the kind of guy I'd move. Good enough to get a decent return, but not so good that we can't live without him.

There Will Be Blood - Kris Draper

They wanted him to get the crap beaten out of him by challenging the guy that was 3 inches taller and 35 pounds heavier who broke his face ..... and that's not how it really played out.

I guess missing the playoffs for the first time in a quarter century is not meaningful enough

We were at this one, which makes for a different view than on screen... It has been a couple years since the last time I caught a live game (also Denver, DeKeyser's debut)... it definitely convinced me that coaching is the issue here. Couple things I noticed: Zone entry on the powerplay is godawful. Own zone entry on the PK is even worse... There seem to be two complimentary issues there - on the PP they are getting stood up at the blue line as the opposing team closed with them and shut them off in the neutral zone. Conversely, on the PK, they are very quickly collapsing into their own zone, letting the other team walk in and work the puck around the outside and set up good shots. Nielsen looks a lot better in person as a player. Athanasiou and Larkin are fast as hell. Mantha is a giant. Z is carrying so much of this team right now. That Mike Green one timer from the point needs to get set up 10 more times a game. Oullet looks good. There are good players out there, especially forwards, but they seem to be holding back and second guessing their positioning because they are being told to do things that might not be the right things to do - the passing ends up being hesitant and they are rarely moving the puck effectively laterally - with all the high skill players they have, they should be able to move the puck so much better than they do. They came back hard after each Colorado goal, only to get sucked back into the above after a shift or two. Glendening and Miller looked awful. Anyway... just a few thoughts I had.

Same but I'm a 90 so slightly younger, maybe.. but to all of my friends and I, that rivalry surrounds our first memories of hockey. It's what made me want to play hockey in the first place and I haven't stopped since. Amazing article, thanks for sharing. I read it like three times over.

No, actually I was wired and rubber-banded shut so I think I could have cut the bands if I had to. I had no problem talking (well what woman doesn't) and sucked soup/baby oatmeal through a straw. My boyfriend at the time was so nice to bring Burger King home the first day I came home from the hospital....

Love it. I remember The Game. I remember that low feeling of futility, I remember the madness, I remember the improbable late comeback, and I remember the OT winner. I was ten years old. It was one of the greatest, most cathartic moments of my young life -- and I wasn't even a resident of Detroit or Michigan (and I never have been, for what it's worth). God. That whole rivalry was really something else. People say that about so many pro sports rivalries, but this one really was one of the modern greats, even if it only lasted for a few years. I miss it!

    When will the Wings fall?

This one got me right in the feels. I miss those guys at those specific ages.

Amen. Overhyping prospects is this forum's favorite pastime. We should have a team full of all stars by now from all the hoopla I've had to hear over the years about how good some of these prospects are.

No, he was leaving Detroit in 2015. They threatened him to take action if he left and cut a verbal deal that if he stayed till end of 2016 season and he was free to go after that. Also media contract is not NHL contracts. What we do know from NHL contracts is that Datsyuk's only choice was to retire from hockey or given permission by the Wings to go play in the KHL. He got the permission after agreeing to honor the 2015/16 year. Usually the two week notice is a way to end the employment on a good note, in case one wants to return. It's a matter of professionalism. Unless of course there's extreme circumstances. But depending on where you work, if you don't give the notice you can be terminated on paper which would mean putting it on your CV could lead to problems in case someone contacted the employer to confirm the employment history. In which case the employer could just say "we terminated him". Like Trump just terminated The Terminator on twitter yesterday.

He was leaving Detroit either way. They could have said he could play in Russia, or they could have played hardball and not let him. They chose to do the right thing and let him go, like a classy organization. Also, for most people who do need to sign contracts (media people for example) they can quit whenever they want, they just can't go work for a direct competitor. Even for people who don't have an actual contract, the two week notice isn't a requirement, it's just an expected courtesy.

Then how could he have given Helm and G-dog their "I won the lottery" contracts? I don't think it was a dick move on Datsyuk's part though. People quit their jobs while under contract all the time. The only difference with him is that he's a public figure where Joe Schmo isn't. Also, there's no guarantee that they wouldn't have drafted the kid they did anyway. In the end, it's probably for the best long term that he retired and Blashill is a moron who dragged the team down to where it is, because the higher draft pick is more likely to help down the road than the 16th pick would have, especially since they're going to be picking earlier in every round and they wouldn't have sold off the guys they did to get more picks.
