*comes into thread and makes mom face* You know who you are getting the mom face. You're lucky you made up on your own. Don't make me take you out to the pool and drown... I mean spank you goddammit. Lots of PMS (Playoff-Missing Syndrome) going around.

Yeah I didn't respond because I didn't want to make it "a thing" but after some more posts I knew conflict resolution was imminent. Also yes on the bear hug, except I'm Tigger. The only bacteria on this page right now is the guy in the pic below: I think he needs another dose of antibiotics, he's been acting up lately. Call in the poolside medic I say.

Yes, I concur. I like how Iginla stepped up and showed he still got it. Looked like a true veteran warrior..

This. The NHLPA is adamantly opposed to this decision, wouldn't be surprised if the tune changes at some point. Honestly I hope the superstars are the ones who say f*** it and go anyway. Then again I'm kind of fed up with the NHL in general right now so I enjoy things that may f*** them over. #teampetty

Mrazek makes you hate being a lifelong Wings fan... just brutal, gives us no chance to win games!! Please please please get rid of him before we step foot into that new arena!

With his size and skill set Svech could be a very good player for the Wings in the future if he continues to go to the front of the net. I don't think he'll be a super star by any means but who knows. Kids only 20.

That would be nuts. Can you imagine if a team didnt make the playoffs by a point or so and the same particular team lost the most players to this and went say 0-5 in the those 2 weeks? I cant see it happening, especially if insurance is involved.

it would be a hell of a protest if all the top players sat out that time

    Chelios Blasts Mike Babcock

I'm not saying don't use open cap space. I'm saying if you make the move to free up that kind of cap, use it productively. Just because you have money in your pocket for Frans Nielson, doesn't mean you need to sign him. The teams issue was and still is defense. There may not have been any top D to be had last July 1, but why didn't he at least make an attempt to add a couple good D men instead of blowing the wad on three over 30 forwards like Nielson, Vanek, and Ott? If he feels the need to blow cap, blow it in the right direction.

    The Streak is officially over

"Tanking for a high pick" and "Building a contending roster" are not synonymous phrases. Real experts - you know, people who actually know things about hockey - understand that. Conversely, trying to make the playoffs doesn't mean ignoring the future. You're creating a false dichotomy. Do you think any parts of the current team are worth keeping? Do we have anything that can be part of a contending roster? If yes, then you have to acknowledge that we have been building. And again, Chris Ilitch has been Holland's boss since 2010. Stop acting like it's something new. All I'm saying is that there's no such thing as "Hollandisms". Your interpretation of the comments are colored by who is saying them.

Like I said before, I do agree that he should have his jersey retired but your argument is so ridiculously over the top. Nobody "screwed" Fedorov, and the way you talk about Feds is like a parent who thinks their child can do no wrong and makes every excuse in the book to justify their child's actions. In literally every scenario brought up here, you manage to flip it to make him sound like the victim. I truly believe that if Fedorov himself read your comments, he would grin.

Wow Matt Martin's comment that Tavares helped Nielson and Okposo cash in as UFAs really started something here. The Nielson signing was nothing but typical Holland blowing cap space signing a vet to an expensive long term deal just because he could instead of just leaving things as is. He just can't help himself. I swear he still thinks it's 2002. Nielson wasn't a big difference maker this season, and I doubt he will be for the rest of his contract, which ends when he's 38. With the team on a downswing and nearing rebuild status, it wasn't the time to make a move like that. A move like that should be off the table. Work with what you already have and don't add another long term deal to worry about. With Z, Larkin, AA, Helm, Sheahan, and Glendening the team had enough centers going forward.

While we'll never know for sure all the details from either side, this isn't really accurate. In 97, he was reportedly offered $11M for 2 years, which would have kept him as one of the highest players in the league. It was certainly a reasonable offer. He didn't like it and at one point said he didn't want to play for Detroit again. Offer sheet from Carolina worked out to $6.3M/yr for 6 years. Probably cost him money in the long run (but since most of it was paid up front, it was probably worth it to him). In 02, the two sides were still negotiating until just before the playoffs. The Wings' offer at some point went from $10Mx5 to $10Mx4. Most likely that was because it had become increasingly obvious that the next CBA was going to include a salary cap. He ended up signing for $8Mx5. Quote from Fedorov: ''It's been a wonderful ride, but everybody in life at some point has to change direction or place or time, and this is absolutely normal for me to change and move on.'' One could conclude that he did in fact want to leave, or even that he was a diva bitter that the Wings didn't think the world revolved around him. Bottom line is twice the Wings offered him fair deals that would have made him one of the highest paid players in the league, and twice he turned them down to sign with another team. It's a mark against him. By itself, it shouldn't be enough to keep his jersey out of the rafters, and ultimately I don't think it will. But let's not pretend he's a victim here, even if his number doesn't go up.

Good point about Roy and the Habs. Although to be honest Montreal seemed as though they were mostly at fault for the Roy situation. He was left in goal and humiliated and the fans boo'd him during the game. That's public humiliation at its finest.

I think Fedorov will be up there. I don't think it's a sure thing, but time heals most wounds. Just listen to all the reflections on the streak, Feds is such a huge part of the 90s story. Maybe not soon. I think it's 9 years from franchise centennial - That could be a time to retire some of the numbers that have been neglected. Also, they'll probably be very few people left that had any part in contract disputes. I know the Wings have different standards, but, hell, Habs even retired Roy despite the fact he asked for the trade in such a fashion. It's about acknowledging those iconic players that make you frachise what it is - old grudges shouldn't get in the way.

Call it petty or whatever, but I think that anyone who tried very hard to leave the team should not have their number retired, and that would include Fedorov and Datsyuk. Which sucks for Zetterberg, because I feel if you retire one you have to retire the other, and I don't think they'd retire Z and not D because that would be an obvious slight and create a maelstrom of debate.

I'm not sure how legit this is but.. Just ask GM Ken Holland. Speaking with THN’s Ken Campbell on Thursday, Holland made it clear he has no desire to move Zetterberg and chances are he remains a Red Wing until he decides he’s done with the game. If that’s not enough, Holland said, “Zetterberg’s jersey is going in the rafters.” Enough said. http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/active-nhlers-who-are-a-lock-for-jersey-retirement-as-devils-announce-honor-for-elias1
