Especially if Van Damme is in the building and Luc Robitaille is scoring buzzer beating breakaway goals. Being a winner is a team thing, though. It's also about being in the right place at the right time as a team. Just because Tayes has one more Cup than Crosby, doesn't make him a better winner. By that metric, he's already a better winner than Lemieux or Orr.

Man, that was fun to watch. Thanks for posting that. I remember being so nervous before that game, and just being out of my mind watching it.

Red Wings In On Player From Russia

The first thing I do if he tries to come back is ask. "That was quick.. was your daughter really that annoying??"

My only fear about paying Vegas to take a bad contract is that Holland will use the savings to give someone a contract that's as bad or worse.

No thanks. Getting a washed up Datsyuk back isn't going to bring back the glory days, no matter how much folks want it to.

Josh Anderson is intriguing. I'd like to see us aggressively pursue Jaccob Slavin. I like him enough that if Ron Francis were to ask for Nyquist/Tatar/Athanasiou straight up, I'd seriously consider it.

Sheahan, Ouellet or a 3rd to take Ericsson would be a good deal for us. It's possible they could have some interest in Howard as well...

It's safe to say he'll become a full-time Red Wing at some point next season.

The first "deal" has been worked out. I wonder if we could do something like this? Allow them to take Sheahan on the condition they trade for E? (or trade them Sheahan on the condition they draft E) http://www.tsn.ca/golden-knights-close-to-agreement-for-van-riemsdyk-kruger-1.766336

    #3 Overall pick

Tyically, I'd agree that it'd have to be something like Larkin/Mantha + 9th, if not more. But, personally, I believe Nill isn't super-ultra-jazzed about having the third overall pick in this draft. https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/nill-open-to-trading-third-overall-pick-in-draft/c-289504248 "We know there are lots of choices at three. It's not like the top five or six are set in stone. Everyone has talked about the top two and then after that there is probably a group of ten players," Nill said. "I think it is going to come down to team's personal preference. Are you looking for a big, strong centerman? Are you looking for a scoring winger? Are you looking for a power forward? There are lots of different options there." I believe he's looking for an immediate and dramatic turnaround, hence Bishop and Hitchcock and now expressing interest in moving his first-rounder for an impact player. The balance of power in the Western Conference is shifting and, IMHO, the Stars are two or three good pieces away from being fully capable of making noise in the playoffs next season. Hell, if Bishop can be the significant upgrade in net that they so badly need him to be, that alone could make them much more competitive than they were this season. https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/jim-nill-its-going-to-be-a-quick-turnaround/c-288547590 We've got a lot of major pieces here, and we're going to get this back together. It's going to be a quick turnaround. He's probably targeting defensemen, the kind we simply don't have. Which sort of makes this whole discussion moot. However, I believe a guy like Gustav Nyquist could be quite appealing to him and Hitchcock. Of course, I'd hesitate to give up Nyquist/Tatar + [?] (+ [??]) for the third overall pick in this draft, so, for me, it's all double-moot. tl;dr If I have Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, John Klingberg, Ben Bishop, and Ken Hitchcock, I'm looking to win a Cup. If I'm gifted the third overall pick in a "weak" draft, I'm looking to turn it into an impact player and would absolutely consider "settling" for a player who isn't his team's crown jewel (because I already have my "Big 3" in Benn, Seguin, Klingberg). But, if I'm Ken Holland, I don't really care about the third overall pick in this "weak" draft class. So...blah.

The silver lining for me in this is that Crosby and Malkin are once again establishing themselves as the REAL top players on a top team in this league. Instead of the overrated Jonathan Toews. If Crosby wins his 3rd, maybe even a 4th. Canada can finally shut up about Toews and overrating him and go back to drooling over Crosby; who actually does deserve that attention since he's a million times better player than Toews. And so is Malkin. And like 15 other players in the league.

Well, the Wings may still be the last team to sweep the Finals. Nashville has to win a game, of course.

None of the "overpaid bums" should be protected. If Holland were smart he'd be protecting Nielsen, Zetterberg, Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha, Athanasiou and Sheahan. Although I think he may protect Abdelkader over Sheahan unfortunately...

    New signing

You don't think DeKeyser was a better UDFA signing? He 100% was. I'd even say Glendening was / is as good a signing as Lebda, and this coming from someone who regularly says that Glendening is replaceable. I'd even put Brunner in the conversation, even though he only played half a season... Lebda wasn't terrible. He was a serviceable 3rd pairing defenseman for a short stint here. And that's about all you can expect out of most UDFA's.

Interesting bit of trivia: This is the first Stanley Cup Finals where both teams' jerseys are the colour of the first letter of the team nickname.

I say f*** it, next season we should run a 4th line / 3rd pairing of... Bertuzzi - Tangradi - Smith McKee - McIlrath Now those guys would surely make everyone play a few inches taller ...
