Looking ahead at expansion draft

Why would we do this? Howard/Mrazek tandem is seriously the least of our problems rn. -

Larkin needs to be handed the reigns of a top 2 center, with great linemates. AA-Larkin-Tippett Sounds great to me! -

Difference of opinion I guess. Always really liked Matt Duchene. I think he's a 70 pt player on a good team. If he'd be capable of that with us I don't know. I'm not too interested in forwards at the moment, but I do think he's a much better player than Nyquist or Tatar. -

If Holland uses an asset or two to get Vegas to take a player like Ericsson, great move. However, if he wastes an asset to keep a player like Kronwall, he's an idiot. -

Duchene is better than a 55 point player... Don't let the Avs being trash fool you. -

Russo reporting that the Wild/Blues will play a preseason game in Kansas City this year, likely to gauge fan interest. Expand into Seattle to even up the conferences. Move Arizona to Kansas City Move Carolina to Quebec City Whamo, NHL fixed -

Looking ahead at expansion draft

There is a zero percent chance that Athanasiou is left unprotected so it's pointless to even discuss. As for Sheahan, I don't really want to lose him either, but it's not like he'd be a huge loss. I think his production would easily be replaced by Nosek. Ideal situation would be losing a bigger contract (Ericsson), but unless Holland can pull off some of his old magic, we will likely lose a young player on a cheap contract (Sheahan, Ouellet, Sproul or Jensen)... -

2017 Stanley Cup Finals: Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Yeah, I'll give Chicago and Pittsburgh credit for making good free agent acquisitions and drafting players that others didn't want to draft. However, let's face it, these teams wouldn't go anywhere if not for their superstars, who they obtained through deliberate tanking (even though they won't admit it). -

It'll be ok, it took Hasek 4-5 years to become The Dominator. Petr is right on track. Soon as we ditch Howard and this becomes Petr's team he will be the next Dom. With the right subtractions and correct additions by Holland, Petr will lead us into the deep playoff run next season! -
1 pointIt's Ovechkin. He doesn't cry. He's with the models making us gentleman cry instead.

You're right, he's a 60 point player. No, we aren't told that players like Duchene aren't available. That would be dumb since players like Duchene are traded almost every year. Elite franchise cornerstones are the players that aren't available (though even that does occasionally happen). Your package would probably get it done if the Avs can't get a defender they like. But how does it make sense for us? Duchene is a 60 point player. Not much better than Nyquist or Tatar on their own. And to throw in the #9, which could easily turn out better than any of them, plus a good D prospect? Plus he makes an already bad cap situation worse. No thanks. Not even swapping the 1st for our 2nd. Change for the sake of change is almost always the wrong move. Unless the Avs are looking to shake things up and are willing to overpay us, then I want no part of Duchene at all. Rather use the assets to try to help our own defense. -
1 pointI pretty much agree with everything you're saying, I'm just not sure I'd be comfortable giving up that much in that trade. 2nd round pick, fine, 9th overall, nope. The other thing that you have to consider is that our overpayment would have to be that much more than any other teams' overpayment, if it's true that Sakic doesn't want to make a trade with the Detroit Red Wings... I'm with you though, I love Duchene and he'd be a great addition for us. We need to at least make a reasonable offer for him.
-
1 pointI agree. If Vegas do end up taking Howard in the expansion draft, I'd be okay with it, but there's no way we should be giving up valuable assets to get rid of him. If we're paying off Vegas to take a contract, it should be for Ericsson, not Howard, who is still a very good goaltender.
-
1 pointI'd be okay with that sort of package if it's our 2nd round pick. I wouldn't want to trade our 9th overall pick plus those pieces for Duchene though. I'd trade our 2nd, Tatar and Saarijarvi in a heartbeat. I just don't think that would be enough to get it done...

I'd feel bad for those players. You go from beaches, strip clubs, palm trees and fast cars to a Siberian climate full of French people with an inferiority complex. Ouch! -

Unless most of you did not know I strongly oppose the cap and the aim with it, being parity. I hope it brings the game down enough to warrant a change. With that said, I congratulate Pittsburgh to another cup. If anything I like that Hörnqvist contributed heavily, reminding me of Holmström. I like them Swedish grunts in front of the goalie. -

Oh yeah, that was kind of my other point, I forgot. It makes sense that Chicago and Pittsburgh are the top two teams in the salary cap era seeing as how they were the two worst teams right before it. So going into the cap era, they accumulated all this young high end talent through the draft, which is pretty much the only way you can win now because of the cap. You can't really build a championship caliber team through free agency anymore. Now 6 of the last 9 championships were won both those two teams. So basically the system kind of helped them too. -

How they built the foundation for their 5 Stanley Cups is kind of pathetic. They tanked on purpose to draft Mario Lemieux. Then they tanked on purpose to get Malkin and Crosby. And who is LaBron? -

1 pointNo way we should use a 2nd round pick on a goaltender in this draft. I don't think we should take any unless one we really like falls to the 6th or 7th round. We need to take as many defensemen and centers (preferably right-handed) as we can, especially in the first three rounds.
