Zetterberg assists this past season
TheXym and 3 others reacted to kickazz for a post in a topic
When I think of players with elite vision in setting up players I usually think of Joe Thornton or Sidney Crosby. But this past season Z seriously put himself up there amongst both of them with some of the most ridiculous passes and seeming knack for being 2 steps ahead of the play before it happens. Someone made a dedicated video for this on youtube. Check it out. As a side note, Mantha's wrist shot is crazy good. -

That's the problem. Either Holland or ownership don't understand where this team really is. This isn't LA or Montreal who underachieved in the regular season and got hot at the right time and made a run. "Just get in" is a myth. They need a rebuild. They have some good starting pieces in Larkin, Mantha, AA, and Svech, plus Tatar, Nyquist, etc., with Mrazek as a potential bounce back. The goal needs to be build a contender, not just make the playoffs as first round cannon fodder Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -

Because we have enough bottom 6 centers? Would sign Grigorenko before Bonino (cheaper/younger/more upside) and I think that might be a long shot as well. -

Agreed. This plus he's got a good thing going in Tampa. I imagine he's happy there/with what he's built so far.. he's not going to just abandon that. -

It's time for him to move on. It's time for a change in philosophy. And there is no way Yzerman becomes our GM. Why would he? He is God-like in Detroit. Look at how people in Denver have already turned on Sakic. Many people now hate Sakic in Colorado. Why would Stevie ever want to risk that? -

Indeed, apparently Mike Babcock shows Auston Matthews videos of Zetterberg; trying to groom him up that way. I don't think he can teach him the looks though. Auston is too ugly. http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2016/11/15/mike-babcock-grooming-auston-matthews-to-play-like-zetterberg/ He's tried the hair it seems. -

We'd have to come up with more size variety then. -

If anyone thinks I actively defend the actions of this team too much now, just wait till Yzerman is GM, woo doggie. -
1 pointYou have to wonder as well, how many awesome passes did he make that didn't lead to goals. Guy is just awesome.

A healthy Howard, bounce back season by Mrazek and Larkin, and a few steady Dmen to shoulder Kronwall and Ericssons burden, and we got a shot at starting the streak up again boys, all aboard Mr. Hollands wild ride! -

Something HAS to be up with Kronwall & Ericsson. Especially since Khan had said that we are looking to add 1, maybe 2 veteran defensemen. Although, I don't understand why we don't just let the kids play and grow unless they aren't completely confident in Ouellet & Sproul. I don't have a problem with signing FAs so long as it isn't a long-term deal. Daley for 1-2 years isn't going to have any adverse effects on the club. My guess would be that Holland either can't hack it with a trade to bring in a 25 or under d-man for the top pairing or the prices are ludicrous, so he's looking for reliable, inexpensive options to bridge the gap until, hopefully, Hronek, Saarijarvi, and/or Cholowski are ready to jump in. That's a definite IF because none of those guys are necessarily going to be top 4, let alone top 2 defenders in the NHL. I think at this point the outlook is bright for Hronek and Saarijarvi, but time will tell. In either case, if the deal is for 1 or 2 years for south of 3 million per, then I don't see the damage with that. We're either in the playoffs or not and if not we trade Green, Daley, etc to load up on more picks for the next draft. -

F***s sake! The only way this makes any sense is if Kronwall and / or Ericsson isn't ready to go. Even then, I don't like it. It better be for one year at <$3M... -
1 pointSell at trade deadline for picks. Obviously. Uh yeah. And sell them each at the deadline. 2018 draft is supposedly very strong.

1 pointYou're not wrong, but what it does is it hurts the teams chances of winning a cup. What it comes down to is what means more to McDavid. Winning cups or maxing out his contract. He could get both, but its going to make it harder to win. With that being said, he has every right, and I'm sure he is getting pressure from the union as his contract sets the bar for other top players. What sucks about this, is in a cap world where certain guys get paid this much, the teams won't lose as the cap is what it is, the guys that lose are those 4th liners who would have gotten 1.5mil, but now will be paid 800K etc. The enforcers, the 4th liners, the backups, the journeymen take the hit.

I think we need to sign Grigorenko... give him a shot, let him build some confidence and hopefully fulfill his potential. Zero risk with doing this and we'd be putting out another kid (23 years old). -

Ughhh. I would ONLY be ok with signing a guy like Daley if E gets moved, Kronwall is on IR, and it's a 1 year deal. Even then, we don't need regressing middle aged players, isnt this why we got rid of Qunicey? -

Dont take this away from them. They needed Babcock gone, and now they must reap what they sow. They'll s*** on Holland for the next few seasons too, then after hes fired/retired theyll freak out even more that the new guy is even worse lol. Thus is the life of a nonplayoff franchise.
