The internet isn't one cohesive unit. Those who complain about the lack of fighters are not the same folks who complain about now having one. Having said that, I agree with you. Doesn't hurt to have a guy like that who can be thrown into the lineup when needed. When he ends up getting as much ice time as AA, then there is a legit reason to complain.

How can one be upset over a 14th forward who will likely spend most nights in the press box? People have been upset for years that we don't have a legit fighter and haven't since Downy, now that we have one they complain about the signing. This just plays into my theory that even when Holland does a good move, or even an inconsequential move, people will attack because it's Holland. There is plenty to criticize Holland over, this is not one of those things.

You can hope for it sure but it's not looking like he is compared to some of his own teammates. Far as Smith, you praised him for his offensive prowess. Guy can't even score 20 points. Fact. Far as Jurco, you just make excuses for him, He sucks. Get over it dude. Is Jurco a toddler? He can't carry his own skills and weight? Blame the Red Wings for him sucking? That's ridiculous. I'm 120% sure you're going to blame the Red Wings for "mishandling" Sproul if it turns out Sproul sucks too. Guy is a 24 year old grown man and somehow it's going to end up being the organizations fault. We'll look back at it years from now... "Yeah guys that Daley signing ruined Sproul".

Trouba plays for Winnipeg. I guess my point is...if theyre dealing from a position of strength, why would they want Nyquist? Undersized perimeter wingers have little value compared to core younger defencemen. Especially ones with his contract. If I'm a GM and I'm dealing a young defenceman because of a surplus, I'm at least going to ask for a forward of similar pedigree and age.

Depends on the return, if trading him can get you a player like a Trouba then you do it. Sure I'd rather trade Tatar or Nyquist, but teams arent going to give up elite level prospects for 2nd tier players in their prime.

Trades of this magnitude should not upset fans. But when you look at what Holland has done over the past several seasons, it's hard not to nit-pick every little move he makes. That's beside the point though. The only reason I'm a little (and I emphasize little) upset over this move is, because he let a 23 year old Paterson walk to bring back a 27 year old McCollum. I don't care about the conditional 7th, but Paterson had pretty respectable numbers in the ECHL, and plenty of room to grow, while McCollum has been average at best, and is what he is at this point. Just doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe Paterson was another guy with "attitude issues" and McCollum is a "good character guy"...

Not exactly, but is a known lowballer. Maybe he's coming around from that, but IMO, it's too late. Damage done. We'll see what happens this summer...god I'm so tired of saying that. I like that he tries by signing players, but the problem is with the players you already have.

He overpays his own players that don't deserve it, but when it comes to trying to get free agents to come, they have to take a discount because Lidstrom did or Zetterberg did and, hey, it's Detroit. History man, history!

Just because he doesn't get "wins" or his plays don't lead to "goals" or his d doesn't "stop pucks from going to the net" and his goalies don't "make saves" doesn't mean he is a bad coach.

In order to get Tippet we have to not have a coach. We have a coach. In order to not have a coach we need to fire him. Our coach isn't getting fired. Move along, nothing to see here.

Zetterberg was our best player. Zetterberg IS our best player. AA played a limited role and produced well enough in that limited role -- though, his underlying numbers were mostly ugly. Can he put up big numbers in a bigger, more demanding role? Can he be counted on to go toe-to-toe with top talent every night and win those matchups? Remains to be seen. At present, AA is a middle-six winger who needs to grow his game. He has gamebreaking ability, but he's not (yet) an all-around great NHLer and we can't be certain he's ever going to become much more than what he is right now. The jury's out on him. (And, to be fair, it's also out on Larkin and Mantha.)

I've always hated the Criesby / Crosbaby nonsense, but now McAnnoying? Seriously? These are two of the best hockey players of their generation, and you don't like them just because of media hype? Give me a f***ing break. Both are phenomenal athletes, and by all accounts great people on and off the ice. These guys are great role models for kids. I swear there's more fan hate for Crosby than there ever was for Cooke / Avery and their on ice antics or either of the Kane's and their off ice antics... I hope Crosby continues to shred this league, McDavid eventually takes over and media talks about them every chance they get. They deserve every bit of praise, and it's great for the growth of the game.
