No. The move was the right one. Nyquist only has a year left after this. Tatar had a few years left. Nyquist will be sold off next year as a rental. Moving Tatar's contract is tougher than moving Nyquist's. If Tatar sucked the remainder of his contract, we would have been stuck with him. He got moved at the perfect time. Even if Nyquist sucks and gets worse he'll be gone in a year. Not to mention Nyquist is cheaper than Tatar and you always want to unload a more expensive contract. Also Tatar and Nyquist suck for the Red Wings; they just don't work in our system. Mantha is younger and already better. So is Larkin. So is AA. Nuff said.

Mrazek shut out the Habs tonight for his 3rd win with the Flyers. He’s looking pretty good right now. Seems to be a good shot at having that pick increase in value.

Besides anything else, Nyquist has a NTC and Tatar didn't - I think that's a big factor. But Tatar would get the bigger return so it was the right choice even if it was dictated by contracts. Always really liked Tatar, but this is a great return and he wasn't living up to that contract. He's 2 pts above Abdelkader. Kind of funny that Tatar is Vegas's biggest cap hit other than Fleury.

Also, that he (allegedly) didn't want to play for Toronto makes me like him even more. That kind of Leaf hatred could mean he's a true Wing!

I will miss Tatar the human being but definitely not miss that guy the overplays the puck and pretends like he's Pavel Datsyuk instead of just shooting the ******* puck. Maybe he meshes better in Vegas.

Anthony Mantha was taken in the 20's. I think he is better than Tatar now.

Well I was going to be routing for Vegas to win it all this year but now I suppose we need them to lose early.

Plus you'd have to think that the 2021 3rd may be just like a low 2nd as well. I give Kenny credit for today. Couldn't trade Green because of the injury, not his fault, refused to get fleeced for disney.com, good job! Shed cap, got 3 picks in return. two things I want to point out here, three actually: 1. It's nice to NOT see Detroit at the top of the salary chart! 2. Its very nice to see 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds. Plus considering where us and Ottawa are going to finish, it's almost like having FOUR 1st round picks! 3. With this trade, we now have $18.1M cap space for July, add t that Franzen's $3.9M LTIR and that is $22M. I would say that is enough to re-sign all out RFA's PLUS make a run at JT if he's interested. As long as if Green re-signs, its for much less than $6M.

Tatar is technically having one of his worst NHL season, if not the worst. Vegas overpaid for this dude. Alternatively he ends up working out for them in a new environment.

But he's the best captain in hockey, am I right?

Tatar has significant term left on his contract. I don't see this as a move towards a 2018 cup, I see this as them acquiring a building block for the next 3+ years

Maybe it was because a) Tatars contract is worse and b) KH possibly looks to cash in on Goose as a deadline rental next year? Grade A for this trade, no doubt. I like Tatar, but with this return, it's just a no-brainer.

It still doesn't explain why Green couldn't have been traded for a conditional pick. That's the whole point of conditional picks.

That feels pretty good. Especially because Ottawa’s second could end up feeling like more of a late first if Vegas scrubs out of the first round, it’ll feel even better.

The December 1st deadline is for RFAs. I would think it’d be the same for UFAs but I guess not. UFAs do have more freedom than RFAs, of course.. so maybe this rule is also part of that.

Some good news for Holland haters

Bang on. He’s like a guy who’s remodeling his house, but gets screwed into paying too much for a used furnace that quits on him in a year or two just because someone said it would work for the next ten.

Being loyal to Zetterberg and Lidstrom is one thing, being loyal “overpaying and NTC” for tertiary players is another. He’s being loyal to the wrong players and hurting the team. This isn’t an uncapped league.

I'm sure someone considers him. I just don't want him anywhere near a team that's rebuilding and going for guys like Dahlin and has guys like Hronek, Cholowski knocking on the door step. And currently Kronwall, Ericsson, Daley and DK already on contracts. I wouldn't even take him for free. I'm hoping Cholowski and Hronek become full time soon and phase out Jensen and XO. It's time to move on from the bad and look forward to the good.

Some good news for Holland haters

I'm not a Holland hater, but I also don't think he should be given a new contract as GM here. It is sad though, thinking that he could be going to another franchise. If he does, I wish him the best. Either way, it's time we see a new GM in Detroit.
