I don't know about most people, but I for one didn't consider Tatar "a reason to watch." I'm actually more excited to see Bertuzzi get some more responsibility, and maybe a call up of someone from the Griffins. Tatar himself has been average to below average this year, imo.

Holland overpays for pending UFAs because he has no leverage and he overvalues his own guys. Larkin, Mantua, and AA are all RFAs. He actually does well with contracts he controls. I wouldn't worry about those contracts.

Didn’t realize this. Thanks for the info. Look like the Wings specifically asked for that NYI pick then. That's some strategic trading right there to be honest. Not gonna lie, I'm impressed. Vegas had 3 second round picks for next year. The Wings asked for the best one possible (NYI). The other one belonged to Vegas and third one to CBJ. That second round pick next year will likely end up being in the 30s. Basically a first low end first.

Next contracts for the young guns

I'd try to get Larkin locked up long term. I'd consider doing the same with Mantha as well, but I'd probably opt to sign Mantha and Athanasiou to bridge contracts or maybe something in between... Larkin - 6-8 years at around $5-6M. Mantha and Athanasiou - 4-6 years at $4-5M OR 2-3 years at $3-4M This is one area I have full confidence in Holland. I'm sure whatever he decides on these guys, it'll be reasonable contracts. I'd definitely prefer a longer contract for Larkin though.

Not directed at Datsyukian Deke, but it seems some things (this being one of them) have to be repeated over and over and over again, and it still doesn't sink in with some people...

Looks like everyone here is pretty happy about this trade, and the collective response I'm hearing from other fans of other teams is that this was one of the most, if not the most, lopsided trade of the deadline. That Vegas got fleeced. This is good. Now everyone say one nice thing about Holland

Well, I also look forward to seeing what the new site background is going to look like!

I've been undecided, but I do want Green back. I do think we have too many vets for a rebuilding team, though, and I think we should clear a spot on the back end by the end of the next year for either Hronek or Hicketts. It's Kronwall last year next year, so it's really only a problem for next year. If Kronwall goes through injury woes the problem takes care of itself, but he's been pretty sturdy this year. Looking at our capfriendly page, for next year, Ericsson's NTC just means that he gets a 19 team no-trade list. And Daley's NTC just means that 10 days before the deadline, he can provide a 15 team no-trade list. So those could be options for trades if the young guys really look like they're ready and there's no injuries.

We all know it was Tatar and not Nyquist cuz Don Zetterberg wanted his Swedish boy here.

I'm stingy and I think Holland is too. And I think he can get this done. Larkin $4 million x 4 years AA and Mantha $3 million x 3 years.

Yes, but he is coming off an ELC, that does make a difference. I know he is leading the team in scoring, but unless you are the Edmonton Oilers, most teams don't hand out huge deals right after the ELC. McDavid and Mathews are the exception to that rule. I still think Edmonton blew their load too early giving McDavid $12.5M AAV. With all those $6M+ players and $4M+ D-men next year they only have $12M cap available with only 15 players signed. It's no wonder they are trying to dump RNH. He was another on that went from a sub-$1M ELC to $6M. Edmonton has horrible management! You have to have bridge deals, that way you aren't forced to dump these players before their prime! To continue on the Oilers, there is no way Draisaitl should've gone from $925K to $8.5M! I don't care how good he did last year, they all benefited from McDavid and Lucic. What are they going to give Nurse? He is an RFA this summer. They gave Klefbom $4.1M after his ELC, so I imagine Nurse will get similar or more. They are going to be in cap hell next season. I'll bring the popcorn! I am glad Holland hasn't done this.

    The Datsyukian Deke

    Karlsson on the move?

The more time runs by, the more Melnyk can forget about anybody taking on Ryan. Even Arizona can't help, Karlsson can submit a 10-team no-trade list.

No way Larkin signs for less than that ridiculous Abby deal. Hell, 3.5 would be even less than Helm makes. That's insulting.

    Karlsson on the move?

I actually think he may take even less. Here me out. Green has been pretty upfront about wanting to be in Detroit with his family for the foreseeable future. That he loves it here. And the rumor throughout the deadline was he only approved two teams for trade (Washington and Tampa) and blocked a deal to Toronto. The man is clearly demonstrating that he wants to stay here. Try to get him in on one of those Detroit discounts we used to talk/joke about players taking to play here. 5 years at 3 million? 15 million evaluation to finish his career... not much different than say 4 mil for 3 years, then 2 more years at 1.5. Again a 15 year evaluation, but obviously you're committing to term in exchange for 1 mil in cap saving. Maybe he even takes less for that term and an NTC, who knows?

I don’t even really dislike the deal in terms of the return, but I think Mrazek was mismanaged and unless he somehow sneaks back into the fold this summer as a UFA, I think this was a dumb move. As I’ve said all along, we are sorely lacking in prospects with his upside. He squandered a lot of good faith, but beggars can’t be choosers unless they want to live with regret. I think there’s a high likelihood we’ll regret this one. And f***, Mrazek has been good in the playoffs. That’s what really kills me. He seems to have that rare extra gear. Will be interesting to see how he plays with Philly in the playoffs.

We can trade both, but we shouldn't trade both. Howard should have been the one traded though. Their "total salary sum"? Howard's salary (cap hit) is higher. *For a team rebuilding* we should have traded the more expensive / (one year longer) contract. Our "progress curve"? Howard is much older with no upside. Mrazek is younger with upside. *For a team rebuilding* we should have traded the older goalie. You're damn right Mrazek was easier to trade. You know why? Because of the reasons I just mentioned. Better contract, younger, and more upside. Athanasiou would be easier to trade than Helm too. Does that mean we should trade him? "In a snapshot of the present" it doesn't matter that we traded Mrazek? Mrazek shouldn't have just been viewed as the goalie of "the present", but maybe, just maybe, the goalie of the future. I'm not saying Mrazek should have been untouchable, but we should have never given him away for a (maybe two) mid round draft pick(s).

They're horrible at trades. When they're not trading away franchise players, they're overpaying for journeyman. It was. No. Lol. Move him to forward.

The Wings need to go out and get a legitimate ball puncher. Anybody know where we can get one of those? esteef
