Man, I am pretty happy we got Griess. Heard nothing but good things about him, he was easily on my top list a few Months back. Also, I have a BUNCH of VAN fans as friends and they are realllly pissed they didn't resign Stecher. They loved to s*** on our drafting/hughes stuff. Nice to have a small one up on them for once.

After kicking the bottle, Bobby is likely in the best shape, physically and mentally, he's been in, in years, maybe his entire career. He's been working his ass off through the entire shutdown, hired a skating coach for the first time in his career, and has cut down 10-15lbs. He still has a great shot, and will be that much needed right-handed shot on the power-play. Hot take: Bobby Ryan scores 25 next season.

I'd want a couple 1st's (one from Vegas, one from the other team) on the high end, but I'd definitely settle for a couple 2nd's, if that's what it takes to beat out another team, and get the deal done. Regardless, a couple high picks / prospects is worth the $3.5M in dead cap space for a couple season's.

I see what you are saying, but it all about probability. If we have 2 picks in the 4th/5th round, chances are that we go 0 for 2. If we have 6 picks in the 4th/5th round, while we still very well go 0-6, the chances of us going 1 for 6 are significantly better then us going 1 for 2 in scenario one. Its like we are in a raffle and we just got ourselves some more tickets, buy no stretch a sure thing, but our odds went up and sometimes to land your Point/Kucherov or Datsyuk/Zetterberg you need as many tickets as you can get.

Expansion draft requirements , and in the grand scheme of things i dont think timashov will be here in 2-3-4 yrs so he’d have to be one of the two guys required including nielsen We have to have guys who played in 40+ games the previous season or 70 last two combined and i cant see hirose and erne being in that mix and definetly not smith(i would have protected smith anyways cause we dont have anyone like him on the team) Draft requirements means someone like dekeyser or stecher would have to be exposed ... unles cholowski is a complete disaster and we move on from him , as of today id protect him and lindstrom with them being 22/23 ... dekeyser has one year left , aging had injury problems i doubt anyone takes him , he might not even be a valid player to be exposed if he doesnt play enougn games which would then mean stecher would be exposed which is why im guessing yzerman gave him two years

Exactly! I think the biggest knock on him is that he’s small. I’d love to be able to give him a shot. I’ll take him over Erne any day on this roster.

Kind of surprising they didn't qualify Bracco..just looked at his stats, 79 points in 75 AHL games a season ago, only 23. 2 different leagues but still. Would be nice to get him for GR!

Yeah, I can definitely see Cholowski at least starting in Grand Rapids, but if it were up to me, I'd give him another shot up with the Wings to start the season. Give him sheltered minutes with who I hear is a great defensive defenseman, Merrill. I want Staal to play, to hopefully up his (limited) trade value, so I'd also be good with Cholowski being first injury recall...

The f***ed up thing is, I guarantee there are fans out there, some that frequent this site, that have been no shows for a few days, are legitimately pissed off by these moves... "Yzerman isn't doing enough". "These players suck". "This team is still going to suck"... blah, blah, blah... The same people that were pissed off at the draft, because Yzerman didn't take the players they wanted him to take, accusing of him making "safe" picks, when in reality he swung for the fences on a lot of his picks. Great draft! Great free agency! Great job Yzerman!

$1.7 per year for two years for Troy Stecher is a great deal. Stevie is really doing a nice job in FA.

I'm just happy not to have to deal with Jimmy "starts hot, gets injured, plays like garbage" Howard. He had some good seasons, but he was never going to be the goalie we needed, even if we were a contender at any point. For clarity, I'm not saying Bernier or Greiss are necessarily leagues better, but we all knew what Howard was going to offer in the last few seasons (after 16/17).

I love this because it was stated that he had TONS of interest and for him to knowingly go to a rebuilding team over a contender speaks volumes. Imagine this type of interaction once we are competitive and contending again.
