It isn't even about Duclair, really. It's about finding good talent for cheap. Savvy trades and signings. Hitting homeruns in the draft. Things that can make a dramatic turnaround an actual reality. And even if it were about Duclair, we do need goal scoring, whether it's coming from a centerman or a defenseman or a winger. -

Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion
Jonas Mahonas and one other reacted to kickazz for a post in a topic
Yeah Z can’t retire or we’re f***ed lol. Unless he LTIRs. I mean Hossa did it, anyone can now. 100% when Patrick Kane retires in 10 years it will be because he LTIRs due to an STD. -

Not much of a rumor, but when the Bobfather speaks, it's usually true... When asked about the Wings at the deadline: -

Yup. If there's any doubt, it's a no go. Nobody once doubted Yzerman or Lidstrom going up. -
1 pointLooking at Cholowski as a defenseman myself he's probably our best young defensive prospect in some time. Cholowski thinks the game. Everything seems to go slower and/or more deliberate when he has the puck. This is not bad. His play speed will pick up. But he's starting from the right spot and has some of the tools the greats had. Some of our top players were cerebral players doubting if they could possibly keep up with the speed of the NHL, noticeably Zetterberg and of course 'The perfect human', Lidström. My bet is Cholowski will adjust and be a legit two-way top 4 defenseman on the Wings.

Bowman's trying to keep the streak alive when he should be tanking -
1 pointYou're absolutely right, most of the best players in the league are normally the younger guys, but that's not because they are younger, it's because they are the better talents.....those best players won't be around at 19 and 20 years old.....that's my main point....if a guy is in juniors at that age, he's probably not that great. Doesn't mean he won't progress, but that's just my assumption at that point in time.

1 pointNope. There are plenty of GM's that have never had success. The context here is how GM's are perceived after hitting the pinnacle. Come on Cady, do better

That's because all GMs are fallible. When teams are contenders their GMs are praised. When the teams of those same GMs start to head South (which is a normal process in the league now) they became "washed up", "outdated", etc. When teams are loaded with talent and they're a contender, their GM's mistakes are less noticeable, even though the best Gms make them. When parity sets in, and their teams start to run its coarse toward a rebuild, their mistakes are magnified. Bowman is a good GM, but he's not perfect. As the 'Hawks continue to decline (and they will) its only natural that the "Bowman is an idiot" "Fire Bowman" cries start. It happened to Holland too, although not all of it unfair. Bowman was never as brilliant as Hawks fans once claimed and Holland is/was never as bad as Wings fans claim. It's the Circle...Circle of Life. (Read this as Elton John singing it) If you trade for BOGO is it a Buy One Get One Free scenario? -

I think it'll happen sooner than that. They'll still make the playoffs, I just think they start cooling off after the All Star break. Their success so far just seems unsustainable with that roster. -

I actually wasn't nitpicking at all here....difference between 19.6 years old and 18 years old is massive. Go look at a bunch of players that played in junior for 3 or years and check their production difference from 18 to 19 years old. I'd be you'll see a lot increase production 50+ % in that one year and the difference we are talking about is closer to 2 years than it is to 1. I've seen it, over and over and over again. The quick and easy example is Mantha...at 18 he scored 89 points in 67 games, at 19, he scored 120 points in 57 games.....increased his production by 59%. I'm not saying it's always like this, but it's quite ordinary. It's hard to do this by looking at the good NHL players because most of them never play in junior by the time they are 19. The best of the best are in the NHL a year earlier, the good players may stay back a year in junior, but for the most part, it's rare to play in junior 2 years after draft age for guys that ultimately become NHL stars. -
