I think the talking to he's gotten here on LGW is worse than anything the league has done. People act decently in bars? Not here in the Midwest they don't.

    Seasons half way, thoughts?

Right now we are 20-16-10 with 50 points. Under the old scoring are we even a .500 team? We could have as few as 40 points under the old scoring and be 26th in the league. yes I said 26th. if you look at win totals there are only 8 teams with fewer wins. There are 3 others with 20 wins. So just from a win total we are somewhere between 18th and 22nd. Now and this is real scary, where are we as a team without D and Z carrying us? That should run tremors of fear through every RW fan. The fact that they turn 36 and 34 before next season starts should set off red lights flashing everywhere. We are not a great team right now. In fact we are not really a good team right now. We have to make player changes in a big way. We can't sit back and wait for 1 or 2 prospects to be ready every year and expect to get to the top of the mountain anytime soon.

Totally disagree with this whole 'Stadium series', especially the game in LA. Seriously? 70+ degree weather for a game that is probably going to leave Dodger stadium half empty? The only positive aspect for me I guess is that the NHL are trying to capitalise on the Kings winning the cup 2 years ago, but still. Aside from that, the other reason I disagree with it is because its basically a cash grab for the NHL and they're essentially devaluing the Winter classic now totally. Still, feel free to disagree with me. I'd just like to see them stick to 1 Winter classic and 1 Heritage classic. But there ya go.

    Stadium Series: Los Angeles

My favorite one was in Pula Arena. I thought that was THE coliseum but it turns out it was just a different Roman amphitheatre. Still cool as heck though.

    2014 draft thoughts.

5 years? More like: Mantha C??? Jurco Tatar Jarnkrok Nyquist Abby Helm Pulkkinen Athanasiou Sheahan Nastasiuk Athanasiou at least makes the 4th line with his wheels. Sheahan may very well be much more than a 4th line C but at worst that is where he gets. Jarnkrok will be a 2C (I know it doesn't look like it now with his point totals). No way Nyquist or Tatar disappear in Ken Holland's world. The guy isn't trading anyone (look at recent history). I think Callahan makes the team next year as an extra forward just like Ferraro - but I don't see them being career Wings necessarily. Glendening will be another guy that is on the team for a while but is eclipsed when new guys emerge.

Definitely take in the Hockeytown cafe - not even for the food. (Although last time I went the mozzarella sticks were awesome) The memorabilia there is awesome. I have bought merchandise from the Joe before too, pretty good if i recall. Also, personally, as I'm a fan of these things, I'd turn up early to the Joe, walk around the concourse for the statues of Lindsay, Howe etc, and if you want to, watch the pre game skate. Last time I was there (about 3 years ago now) the ushers were kind enough to let us down to the glass to watch it all regardless of where you're sitting. Only other thing I would recommend (if you're after food), is go to Slow's barbq - its on Michigan ave, not too far away from the Joe. Best BBQ I have ever had in my entire life, and every time I go back to MI, always try and go there. It's very popular though, so turn up early! Other than that, enjoy the game!

Going to the Joe for the First Time!

Hockeytown Cafe is a good place for lunch before the game (a bit on the expensive side, but good). There's also Chelli's Chilli down the road a bit as well. The people mover has several stops that can get you close to things without having to walk forever so pay attention to the map and stations (and I believe you can grab a paper map). As far as merch, the Joe has some good stuff but also pricey. They also have a store where you can buy game worn/used merchandise (some even autographed by said player) such as sticks, jerseys, pads , gloves etc. Very expensive but if I'm not mistaken it's non profit and goes to charity. A good after game bar to go to would be Cobo Joes. It's a wings bar and is very wings oriented. They even usually do jersey raffles and stuff. If you go before game you can usually get free raffle tix, then you return after the game for the drawing (must be present.). Be forewarned, the Joe is an old and severely outdated arena. But it has personality, and TONS of legendary memories and stigma attached to it. The bathrooms are old, smelly and outdated, and the seats will leave you feeling cramped. That said, there's really not a bad seat in the house. Even nosebleeds are worth while. Now, I'm sure like most people not from the D, you've heard the stories about how scary it is, and how you'll get robbed etc. While I will not deny Detroit is in shambles, the downtown area is relatively safe. You'll have the occasional bum beg change or a cigarette but usually they're very nice. My advice, don't feed one or you'll have them coming in droves unfortunately. I've been going to the Joe since I was about 6 or 7 and I'm now 30, and have YET to have incident so no reason to worry. Detroit is bad but people make it out worse than it is. Stick to downtown and don't stray into the ghetto and you'll be ok. One last word of advice, dress warm. It's winter obviously and the joe being right on the Detroit river, the wind is EXTREMELY cold. If you don't bring gloves/hat etc, you'll be very sorry if you plan on exploring the area surrounding the Joe. I took my gf(now wife) to a wings game on one of our first dates, and she didn't heed my advice, so I ended up giving her all my warm gear and ended up walking around MISERABLE most of the time from the cold. Better safe than sorry. Any more questions, I'd be happy to answer. Have fun.

Going to the Joe for the First Time!

Hey Cr00d. Park at the greektown casino. Free parking. You can then take the Detroit People Mover to and from the Joe for 75 cents a person each way. I do this every time I go. You can then hang at the casino after the game if you wish to sober up. I always make a day of it. Good luck, Have fun and GO WINGS!!!

This is just speculation, but to me it would make sense. Generally what makes sense to us doesn't make sense to upper Wings management so i'm not going to consider this a possibility. I think he would be a good fit here, he's obviously got some leadership skills, isn't afraid to hit and stick up for his team mates, and would add some much needed grit and passion to the team. You hate him when he's not on your team because that is the kind of presence he brings to the ice, and I think that is the kind of player we are lacking. I'd welcome Ott with open arms, I just don't see it happening.

Yeesh, a little negative aren't you? Datsyuk and Zetterberg weren't sure things, either. I'd say of all our prospects we are bound to have at least one develop into a superstar. Pundits have praised our 2010 and 2011 draft, not just the OP. I can't say for sure who will be the superstar, but I'm betting whoever plays the most unique or versatile game will be the next Big One. As for defensemen, they don't hit their prime until around 28, so we've got a while even after their NHL debut to see greatness. And even if we don't get a superstar out of that draft, Tatar is only going to get better and stronger. He has the skill and the fire to improve constantly. Plus, chemistry is king. Even without a superstar, we could wind up with the highest balance and chemistry levels since mos of these kids have played with each other and succeeded.

    2014 draft thoughts.

I understood why people may have felt this way on draft day....but still?? Let's do some research first guys... Nastasiuk GP-42 G 13 A 19 P 32 PIM 18 -9 Bertuzzi GP-29 G 10 A 25 P 35 PIM 49 +9 Same league. Not to mention Bertuzzi plays a grittier game. I live in Ontario and watch a decent amount of OHL games. He looks good.

    Pissed off: JJ speaking out

That's definitely true, but then again I'd do a happy dance if Kindl produced like the Kings' era Jack Johnson too.

I think Henrik Zetterberg is also pretty good.

The buffalo in the logo looks like it got drunk and fell over, or like it's falling out of the sky and is going to land on the sabres. I don't mind the back of the jersey at all, but it seems like whoever was creating it took a s*** and died before making his way to the front thus leaving the rest of the jersey to be finished by his 11 year old niece. No offense to 11 year old girls, most of whom could probably design a better jersey.
