    The Franzen Hate.

Back to the Franzen hate! LOL The other day, might have been over the weekend I saw a quote from Holland where he was talking about Mantha making the team. In the quote he said that Mantha only stays in Detroit if he proves he is top 6 worthy like guys named Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Nyquist, and Franzen. Think about that. Franzen as a top 6 forward? WTF?????? Go back and read through this thread, even those that defend Franzen agree that he should be on the 3rd line where he doesn't have to face the pressure. The fact that Holland considers a guy like Franzen a top 6 forward in the NHL is truly freightening! He is not a top 6 player, nor has he ever been one in his 9 year NHL career. It is thoughts and beliefs like this that have lead to the demise of the RW's. This is why we are now a sub .500 team-we only won 39 games this year! Let me ask a classic what if question. If Franzen was bought out-which yes I agree isn't going to happen, what type of free agent contract do you think he would get from other NHL teams? If he decided to stay in NA and play-I think there is a better than 50-50 chance he would go home, I can't see him getting anymore than a 1 year deal for maybe 3 million. 34 year old sub 20 goal scorers with multiple concussions are not going to get big time money or term. yet we are blessed to have him under contract for 6 more years!

I just don't see many teams buying this technology in the near future. Zamboni's are expensive and are usually good for a long time. Once a team, especially in the lower leagues, has committed to purchasing a Zamboni, they won't need to purchase more ice resurfacing equipment for at least 10-15 years. It makes zero financial sense for many, many teams to purchase this new technology. This is especially true considering that, even though there is a drastic reduction in resurfacing time, the intermission is still 17-18 minutes regardless.

putting my hatred for Franzen aside, same could be said of him that you just said of Kindl. He needs a change of scenery and I do think he can become a 30 goal scorer again. I think he has also grown stale in this system. That is why I always do my fantasy trade scenario with Vancouver. I think playing with the Sedins could help him.

I am absolutely for getting rid of Kindl, no matter if we sign a vet or not...I just think that finally he has peaked about as high as a mountain in Florida. He fooled us all the shortened season.

Wow what a great tsn article, man I will miss those well written and well thought out pieces of hockey next season Basically I agree with every - who can't you ? - but one quote makes a bit nervous: No, they aren't over you just have to choose wiesely on whom to spend a fortune and on whom to pass. You can't build a cup contender solely by drafting or solely with free agent signings the right mix needs to be there. The biggest problem is, the UFA market is declining every damn year AND it's harder to find late round draft-gems ==> tough job for every GM not drafting in the top 10.. Having said that I really hope the Wings aren't going after the big fish this off-season [Thomas Vanek], we need defense first. But if Ken goes into UFA with the mindset of kicking the tires guys like Niskanen, Callahan aren't going to sign here teams need to blow them away money and perspectivewise in order to sign..

I agree with this. We've got the cap and roster flexibility to be aggressive this year and I think we should be. My priorities are as follow (I'm trying to be realistic in terms of value and only acquiring guys who are believed to be available): 1. Trade Smith, Helm, and our 1st for Ryan Kesler. 2. Trade Franzen and Andersson for RJ Umberger and a 2nd. 3. Sign Niskanen (5 years, 5.5 million) 4. Sign Fedor Malykhin to a two way contract. 5. Kindl can go too, for a late pick, and replaced with a vet d-man if you felt like finding one (I didn't bother on this). Emmerton-ov: Cory heading to KHL

Yeah calling Sochi, Siberia would be like calling Los Angeles part of New England. Or in Canada referring to Victoria BC as part of the Maritimes.

    Seattle looking to join NHL?

I think the Panthers should move before the NHL adds any more teams. They're always near the bottom in attendance and moving them to the west would even the conferences up.

    Emmerton-ov: Cory heading to KHL

He's a good hockey player. He's just not much more than a fourth-liner in the NHL. Which, from our perspective, makes him worthless, because he's not going to help our team. But if he can be more valuable to a KHL team (and make way more money), more power to him.

Y'know what's crazy? Evander Kane's numbers. The gist of it: he's right where The Other Kane was at his age, and he's done it with second-rate linemates. Maybe he has maturity issues (likely overblown by racist local pundits), but then, so did (does?) The Other Kane. Point being, I'd give up quite a lot to get Evander Kane if the Jets were to shop him.
