Signing this guy replaces our lost second round pick....well done, Kenny Holland

I'd probably rather have nosek and his minuscule contract, instead of ghost vanek and his large cap

Nosek will probably be soft, so I assume his nickname will be nosack

Who cares where a person was born? They sign the best available players. It could be none of the local boys were as good.

So not winning a cup automatically equates to hurting the team? Man, screw us for signing Dekeyser and Nyquist and Tatar and screw the Islanders for signing Tavares because none of them have helped win cups either. They're all so bad for their teams. Wow. I can't believe anyone would want to sign free talent that they didn't have to spend a pick on and is already farther along than a lot of prospects they have. Not to mention he's a guy that can bolster the C lineup in gr which I believe is what everyone expects is going to happen, considering his agent's comments about Blash. Talent is talent whether we draft it and it develops over there or it develops over there and then we sign it and develop it further. Nobody said he'll be an experiment on the big club. He's just like every other prospect now. And he's one of our better ones at center so I don't know why anyone would consider this a bad thing.

Considering his agent said the reason he signed with us is to develop like Jurco did under Blashill I don't think you need to worry about him taking a spot on the big club. He'll make Grand Rapids a better club next season.

Leino - traded for some picks. Brunner - helped us immensely in the playoffs that year, and one of our better goalscorers that season. Brunnstrom - played like 6 games. Which one of these signings hurt the team again?

True. Acquiring Niskanen at this price and term will be a risk for sure, but we have to take some risks if we want to build a cup contender. No sane GM will let someone like Niskanen walk for nothing if he is already a proven #2 D-Man.

Not trying to say anything, but look at the ratio of North American players to Europeans on the teams that recently won the cup and look at the wings roster. There's a trend here. http://kings.nhl.com/club/roster.htm http://bruins.nhl.com/club/roster.htm http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/roster.htm?location=/roster http://redwings.nhl.com/club/roster.htm This is the wings 2008 roster. http://m.hkref.com/m?p=XXteamsXXDETXX2008.html&t=all_roster 20 North Americans and 13 Europeans. It's been downhill since the gritty North Americans have been departing. Osgood, chelios, draper, maltby, McCarty, rafalski, drake, Downey, and Stuart. Again, Stuart was an acquisition that season in February. Holland making moves to improve an already fairly stacked team. Something he should be doing more of.

That would be amazing, Dangles. Call me biased but I truly believe Mantha is a superstar in the making. I think he's ready for the NHL right away which is why I think we should consider calling him up next season if he tears up the AHL early on.

If that's what is considered trash talk, this league is full of tooth fairies. Edit for wonkiness.

If the Wings go down, then this is all that matters to me f*** those bangwagons and their whiny ass captains.

The problem with the "us" feeling is it doesn't win hockey games. If the scouts say the euro is better than the michigan boy, I'll take the euro 10 times out of 10. That's how we know even if they're "not getting a chance." As far as Dekeyser, sure it's cool he grew up a wings fan in Detroit but I don't think that's anyones reasoning for liking him. Personally I like him because he came out of college and was immediately a solid shut down defenseman in the NHL and that's not an easy jump to make. He's a good hockey player and has become an important part of this team and will be for a long time. That has nothing to do with the fact that he's from Michigan. It doesn't matter where they're from, they all play for Detroit now and that's enough of an "us" feeling for me.

    Trading up?

The only way I see Z being traded is if we really sank low and we traded him to a team with a legit chance to win a Cup in his last year(s) and that is partly him asking the Red Wings to trade him. I don't think he would. As enticing as a 1st pick would be, Holland dumping Z, of all the players, in Florida doesn't strike me as going over well with this organization. Nor would I think Florida would want Z over the first pick or one of our other players. The other teams want Nyquist, Tatar, DK. Just need to find a GM drunk enough to accept what we need to clean out... But would def love to have the first pick.

    Mike Green

Colaiacovo's a depth defenseman, and we threw him onto a makeshift, hope-and-pray blue line. Green, at his best, is a top-end talent, a difference-maker. A defensive black hole, yes, but the guy can move the puck and score, especially on the power play. Outside of Kronwall and maaaaaaybe Smith, we don't have a guy like that on the back end, and that's a big, big issue. Maybe one of our kids becomes as valuable as Green, but that's a huge maybe, and Datsyuk would be gone by then anyway. If we're going to acquire a top-end, difference-making top-four defenseman, it's very likely going to be someone who's a good deal less than ideal. Otherwise, we wouldn't have a shot at him in the first place. Ideal players don't get moved or allowed to hit the UFA market. I'd like Green at a reasonable price.

Guys, I tried. I just can't manage to give two rabbit farts when it's not us lifting the cup. Best part of these playoffs for me was that neither the Pens nor the Hawks got to the big show, so there's that... Edit: grammar *shakes head*

New York was lucky to get past Montreal. It doesn't matter if it's East or West, he's a Stanley Cup Final loser on either coast.

Nothing against him and my local team has done something similar and I hated it. Why not give the job to good ol Michigan boy ? I think the Wings are running the risk of becoming a very european dominated organisation, where are - save for Dekeyser - are the upcoming local heroes?
  22. 1 point
Talent added for nothing? Sure. Just don't expect him to be a star right away. That was the biggest issue with many fans and some of the guys in the past.

Tried looking him up and saw a bunch of pics of some oiled up body builder. For a second I thought "good, we could use some more muscle on the Wings"

Are people actually serious about offer sheets? I don't get how you guys are arguing what Kip is saying... Everything he has said is completely accurate. There is no point in offer sheeting a player. There is no way we would get him without ridiculously overpaying. And the most important thing... There is absolutely ZERO chance Mr. Ken Holland offer sheets any player. He knows it is bad business and why make enemies when it accomplishes absolutely nothing.

Blackhawks have no leverage whatsoever here, captain serious will get his 10 mill either with the Hawks or somewhere else, he knows it his agent does as well and I'm sure Bowman is the same. There are contracts are going to be 8 years ~ 90 million Kane might get a little less but not by much.
