Those D pairings are tantalizing... I'm really excited to see how the young guns perform.

great 4th line shift He had a terrible turnover early but that play you're mentioning he did not look out of place. He's got great patience plays with his head up I'm predicting Tatar-Datsyuk and Nyquist-Zetterberg will be the money combinations all year.

    2014 Preseason Thread

I wanted to put this in its own thread but decided to post here instead. I just wanted to comment on how awesome it is that the organization has fully embraced social media, and particularly the "all-access" philosophy they seem to have developed. Between the Red Wings and Griffins Youtube channels I've watched behind the scenes videos of last year's playoffs, development camp, the prospect tournament, and now main camp, along with individual profiles of many of the up and coming guys as well as Wings regulars. In each case the footage was more insightful and better made than the hyper-dramatic, scripted, crap that we were fed on 24/7 last year. No B.S., all hockey. Exactly what I want. Kudos to the organization for giving fans an absolutely massive amount of media to help get them through the long offseason.

I'm predicting 82 gp, 27-20-47 for Cleary this year. I think that's pretty fair based on his training camp performance thus far.

Way too early to tell, but they took a bunch of guys late that have good size and skill down the middle, hopefully they pan out.

It's the preseason. I wouldn't put much stock in anyone's performances.

Agreed. Marchenko is a righty, but he's not going to be expected to score so the side he shoots from matters a little less. And while he and Quellet are probably better all around (right now) than Sproul, they got to compete with each other plus Quincey, Dekeyser, Ericsson, and Lashoff for a spot. Sproul just has to be better than Kindl, or Smith, and he's got all the best attributes of both. He's as big as Kindl, as fast as Smith, a better shot than both and his only noticeably shortcoming is one that the two of them share as well. Plus, as you mentioned...he's a righty. Edit: Lol. Just saw this. Check out Fischer at 2:09..."We bring him to development camp...he puts on some weight...he is a man now".

I'm pretty excited, I'll be there in person with my son who will be attending his very first Red Wings game. Hopefully won't have to deal with too much heckling from the other fans, but its preseason, so it should be fine.

hey hey, hockey's back!! LGW! stoked that we get a chance to see the four young dmen (that should be ready to make the jump soonish) early on in the preseason.. and against an offensively minded team too.

Haven't seen him play, but there was a good article about him that came out over the summer a couple months ago that praised him highly and talked of his skill set and ability. I will support any Holmstrom in the Wings organization.

Completely agree. I love Dano and I know he's happy to be anywhere in the lineup. Some healthy competition helps everybody. If Nyquist was granted a spot in the lineup he may not have came out the way he did. We got a lot of guys that have something to prove. Whether it's weiss or even guys like Abby and helm who want to show they aren't just grinders. Everybody has to earn their spot

I want almost every forward on our team to be "more like Yzerman." I just don't think asking Ovi to change is going to make it happen.

I feel worse cheering for the devils now that Martys roaming around as a free agent, but tootoos too damn endearing not to stick somewhere. I hope for nothing but the best for him, and hope he plays it classy when he plays us, just so I can keep rooting for him. He didnt b**CH and moan about going to gr, and didn't act all high and mighty once he was there... That video of him giving his stick to that kid made me respect him a lot more...

Pass that crack pipe....you'll need to throw in that new stadium of ours to make that deal work.

I think we all agree that's what he's saying. Our point is that "actions speak louder than words". I'll believe it when I see it. Additionally, it's a little bit of double speak by Babs anyway. In years past he's said "tie goes to the veteran". But there was no tie when they kept Nyquist down a year ago. He was legitimately BETTER than any number of forwards on our team. Likewise Jurco is currently BETTER than any number of forwards. So even if Babs hadn't "changed philosophy", those guys should still have been (or be) in the lineup because they're not tied with guys...they're already better.
