From a Sens blog: From NHL.com: The slump sucked, but this is still a very good team. And guess what: aside from Gustavsson, everyone's healthy. I'm pumped.

The Wings don't need a young defenseman with potential, they have plenty of those. They need someone in their prime who can step in right now, RH, that can play the point on the PP. This situation reinforces the amazing job that Ken Holland has done in rebuilding the Wings on the fly.

Thanks for posting this. I’m going to put on my analytics hat here and say that they are probably “underachieving in the standings” because of this........

First, to be nit-picky, it's Larsson. Second, BOULTON (who I'm assuming you're talking about -- knowing your type) plays for the Islanders. There's no one even close to that misspelling on the Devils roster or in their system that I can find. Third... no Cam Janssen love, bro? Finally, Jagr in all of the jerseys!! Git'r'dun Kenny! EDIT: For the record, I do not wish to help NJ 'restock their cabinets' by trying to obtain Larsson. He's slated to be a great talent. He's playing on a team where he hasn't been trusted to play his style of game, but it's really hard to judge whether he's going to pan out or not. DeBoer didn't give him a lot of leeway and if they bring in another defense-first type coach, it's going to amount to the same for Larsson. He's a RFA making peanuts at this point. Even if they're going to tank for McDavid, which is certainly reasonable given their record and their numerous injuries at this point... Either way, I think the asking price for him is going to be way too high.

Tonight is the day AFTER Boxing Day when things get turned around so tonight will truly be off the hook as everything gets spun on it's head once again and the Wings win 4-3 in a SHOOTOUT. I smell a big night coming up from Count Gustav of Nyquist.

Can you imagine? Scott Stevens, John MacLean, Ken Daneyko, Adam Oates, Martin Brodeur and Lou ALL standing behind the bench coaching? I think Lou can...

He almost singlehandedly lost the game for the Wings last time he played.

I agree about the responsibility but still don't understand how Smith is somehow worse than Kindl in that regard. This last game we saw Kindl move in from the point and rocket a slapshot into traffic that was blocked and led to a 2 on 0 breakaway that resulted in a goal. As the lone man back I have no idea what he was thinking. If you're going to move that deep into the zone you can't take a huge windup on a team that's been tremendous at blocking shots all game long.

    Are the Wings a Contender?

You really think the loss of Thornton has anything to do with the Bruins regression? Not the loss of Boychuk & Iginla, the improvement of the Lightning, Canadians, Wings & Leafs (even Panthers), or the injuries to Chara & Krejci Thornton currently sits on the Panthers with 1 goal and 1 assist in 22 games with a -5 rating, and this "production" is with an increased TOI/G.

Can't wait!!! this is easily one of the highlights of the hockey year for me. Sadly my dear team Sweden doesn't look as good as previous years, I'll be very happy if we're in the medal contention. My no.1 wish is that Canada doesn't win though, they haven't won gold since 2009 and if they lose again this year at home in Toronto it would just be amazing

If that was the main reason we wouldn't see Kindl on the powerplay either, who's a couple steps behind Smith when it comes to defensive responsibility.
