"Hey we forgot to hire someone who knows how to evaluate hockey players!" "No problem, *leans in close and whispers* just trade for former 1st round picks from other teams MWAHAHAHAHAHA" "GENIUS! GENIUS! GENIUS! "Then add a dash of truculence... and VOILA! No cups."

OEL Poll: Would you do it?

My guess is there's about a 0% chance OEL is actually available lol

To me its not about the player, its about the pair. If marchenko can play as good as ouellet, but make smith more effective then that's a net gain. I think the third pair looks better now than it did with ouellet. If marchenko had come in and the third pair had looked bad, then he'd be in GR right now. But its looking good. So that changes things.

I disagree. I think it means something because of the effect its had on smith. He's looked really good since being moved to his natural side. If having marchenko up means smith plays better, then that may put ouellet in play at the deadline. If marchenko and smith can be a solid third pair it may impact Hollands deadline strategy. IMO Smith has looked much better with Marchenko than he did with Ouellet.

I have a cornerstone defenseman who is 23 and signed for a good contract through the 18/19 season. I'm not going to trade him for anything less than a king's ransom. I want a good young roster player, 2 top prospects who should be NHL ready sooner rather than later, a high draft pick, plus more assets or I don't trade him. Since there's no need to move him, unless he has privately asked me to trade him and will go public with his demand if I can't get it done, I can demand that much and just keep him if I can't get what I want.

I've never used the same one twice, so that should eliminate the chance of monster going to Toronto.

Impressive. I'm sold. One small question, though: can he play hockey?

    2/7 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Coyotes 1

19 years in the league and not one ounce of class. Way to go, "Captain". I love Glenny!!! I laugh out loud and have flash-backs of Maltby doing the exact same things with same snotty smile on his face. It makes me happy when I see such shenanigans again.

    2015 Draft

Provorov and Carlsson are lefties, the others will definitely be gone. Roy is small, and Spencer is a right handed Kyle Quincy. We need either one of them like Franzen needs another concussion. However there will be value in the 2nd and beyond. You don't pass on a Greenway or Lööke if available in the mid twenties for a dman that could be replaced with very little drop off in the 2nd. But carry on with your dman agenda

Yeah, you were convinced Datsyuk was gonna leave for Russia too. How did that work out Frank?

Babcock: "HE WINS, FULL STOP" - THN

Give it a rest Frank. You're only saying that so, what? If he doesn't sign you can say, "well, unfortunately I was right", and if he does sign here, you can be "pleasantly surprised"... Babcock is not going anywhere. Why would he? There are about 100 more reasons for him to stay than there would be for him to leave... This is an up and coming team that is only going to get much much better over the next few seasons. He knows this. Why wouldn't he want the opportunity to coach two completely different Red Wings teams to Stanley Cups? He loves coaching these kids. Like, zombo said, he already coaches the best player in the league, Pavel mother f***ing Datsyuk. Both Pav and Hank are still basically point per game players, Nyquist and Tatar should both hit 60 points this season, and only improve on that in years to come. The Red Wings as an organization is the best in the National Hockey League, hands down, the best owner, the best GM and the best coach. The Wings were expected to finally miss the playoffs this season, and they're quite possibly going to win the East and have a good shot at winning the President's Trophy. But yeah, no chance he wins the Jack Adams... I'll say it again, Babcock has a legit shot at winning the Adams, and he absolutely, 100% will re-sign after this season.

Yeah, David Broll would be awesome to have on this team, from the Leafs, too bad he was just traded along with Carter Ashton for a 2016 conditional 7th round draft pick... He was awesome with the Marlies prior to the trade though, 0 points in 21 games as an American Leaguer, what's not to like about this kid... TRUCULANCE!!!

He's so excited for the alumni game vs Detroit, Peter Forsberg has been seen in pools all over Sweden practicing his diving... *drops mic, walks off stage*

    So, Evander Kane...

Looks so uninspired. Like he's waiting on hold for tech support. You'd think there'd be someone more exciting he could pretend to call.

Holland should trade for an elite defenseman and a power forward. But only if he can get them for guys I don't really like. And if he doesn't get that done, I'll spend the next 8 months telling everyone how badly he failed and that a GOOD GM would have been able to do it, because 5 average to bad players equals one really good player. Like that time I went to a BMW dealer and tried to talk him into trading me a brand new Z4 in exchange for an '02 Mountaineer, a '09 Ranger, an '87 Escort, and '86 Daytona, a transmission from an old Cutlass Supreme, an '89 Blazer, a '91 Taurus with a blown up engine, and my weird uncle's old Camaro. That's like 7 cars plus a tranny for ONE car, super great deal.
